I remember when when my step-mother bought the DVD version of Godzilla vs Biollante and the Blu-Ray of Tokyo SOS and Final Wars when she was at Best Buy back in 2014. She did now know that GvB on DVD is one of the rarest Godzilla movies ever... I still have it in a goodwill. It feels like a treasure to me.
I have a VHS copy of Godzilla vs.Biollante from when VHS was a popular format. It was and still is the most expensive single movie I ever purchased at $70.
That's crazy to think about. I recently got the VHS for like 12$ on eBay. Unfortunately it's the most economic way to watch it...but its also the most nostalgic.
This is a really comprehensive guide. I wanted to watch the Japanese movies for a few years now but I wasn’t entire sure where to start. I do have the blue ray for Godzilla 2000, but I’ve never watched it due to the region lock. So I’m planning to get region free blue ray/dvd along with the criterion set and other Toho collections. Shame Biollante and Ghidorah are so expensive, hopefully they’ll get a new print for the next anniversary.

The first I have a hard time finding for some reason. There’s others I’m missing I’m sure. I do have a DVD collection of volume 1 and 2 that come with a bunch of classic Godzilla films, got it for like 40 bucks. Worth it.
I myself have been trying to get a complete Godzilla blu ray collecton, the hardest to get was Biollante whitch I was finally able to get last November at a reasonable price for the official release, now I’m working on getting the English dub versions of the 7 or 8 movies in the Box set of the criterion release only 3 left to track down
I have a question for you. I had the complete collection on VHS years ago and sold them when I got them all on DVD. Now, I'd love a digital copy of the Showa Era Godzilla movies in full screen (Pan and Scan) that only existed on VHS. I can find no one that has these great VHS tapes ripped to digital. If you still have this collection, Could I pay you to rip copies to digital for all the older Showa era ones?
I never seen anyone also mention the “sizing up Godzilla” documentary which is included in the Rodan/war of the gargantuans dvd release. One of the best Godzilla documentarys ever made. You can only get that documentary as a special feature in this edition.

So his large collection consists of reprints and rebrands? I'm new to collecting and it seems overwhelming. I'd just like a clear and concise video of what's needed and what's not. For example if it exists on one box set and then again on another re-release don't include every re-release in your explanation that's way too confusing I just want to know what dvds/Blu-rays I need in order to collect all 33 Japanese Godzilla monster movies.
I'm not sure I understand. I made a point to explain each release and point out the definitive version to own for every title. This video offers information on every release including the best ones to have for your collection. My collection is built from years of updating whenever a there was a new release so I have several reissues, many of which are still worth owning if you're a die hard fan, if you only want to own the movies then hunt the blu rays/4K's.
unfortunatly I don't know much about the PAL region. I know there are several different box sets which are usually more consistent with movie titles, I'll try to research more on it when I make my updated video
Are you referring to the Criterion Blu Ray box set or the DVD Box Set with the shiney cases? The Criterion Blu Ray contains all of the showa films from 1954 to 1975.
Price's change every time you look for copies, I spent 100$ on the DVD box set because it was the best way to own the movies at the time, but now? Not so much. Not unless you really want it on your shelf, you're better off getting the criterion collection. And I would say get 1984 on blu ray if you can, but if DVD is the only option I would nab it since they no longer can print it.
@@SamaLlamaStudios I just ordered a bootleg Heisei Godzilla DVD Collection 1984-1995 for $150. They seem to be copies of the Big Japanese Final Box Set with the Godzilla Head but they have English Subtitles in the Menu & I’ve heard the Final Box 📦 doesn’t have English Subtitles but it looks like they might.
i bought the toho godzilla collection for my nephew and be warned of buying that one if you want to watch with kids because only half of the movies have an english dub for whatever reason.
Man, im so dissapointed i remember when Godzilla 1985 Blu Ray was $9.99 - i figured it would never be OOP, now its $100 but I am thankful I picked up the Toho Master Collection Boxset; I just love the packaging with the original movie posters and the prints are gorgeous plus the dubs. And youre right, the dubs are important for us guys who watched these movies on TV in the late 80s and early 90s, some of the english dialog is classic. Great video, would like to see an update!
Godzilla 1984? Just to reaffirm, the Krakken Blu Ray does not include the 1985 version...nor has it been officially released yet. I'm glad you enjoyed. I'm currently editing an updated version, hope to have it out soon!

I feel so sad about Godzilla 1985 that's the only Godzilla movie it's so much harder to find that movie anywhere and you can not get it on DVD or Blu-ray it ben on VHS for a long period of time and all the other Godzilla movies that you have is on DVD or Blu-ray except Godzilla 1985 that is bad I watch Godzilla 85 movie when they use to show it on tv back in the day the movie was not that bad it just had Raymond Burr in the movie but he was cut out of the 1984 Godzilla I saw the 1984 Godzilla movie to but I here a lot people say that Godzilla 1984 is 100% better than Godzilla 1985 is that really true I don't know to me it's the same movie the Japanese just uncut part of Godzilla 1985 and had Raymond Burr in it
@@maricedixion3357 Japan didn’t cut Burr out, America added him in after the Japanese release. The 1984 is better on a technical level, better pacing and tone etc, but the Burr version is still very entertaining. I think for most people they don’t appreciate how the American version made it more funny when the movie id supposed to be darker. Me personally, I just want to have to option for both on every movie. I think its important for film preservation, but unfortunately 1985 used some copyrighted music and sound that makes it near impossible to get a proper release. If you look at my updated video, you’ll see that I actually made my own blu ray by putting a fan restoration of 1985 onto its own disc for the collection. Thanks for watching :)

I own all but 4 Godzilla films as well as other toho films like rodan and mysterians on dvd. Some are Japan imports. It’s cool lol
