    I've worked on tricycles and handbikes for a good year and i gotta say, seeing the smile on those people's faces when they have their mobility back is worth more to me than anything I've ever gotten. There have been times i delivered a trike to people and straight up cried after seeing their joy

    I was born and raised in the Netherlands, now living in the U.S. Here in the south if you don't have a car or access to one you are extremely limited on your own! Most likely you will need to call someone or make arrangements to get anywhere. I know the infra is so different, it's a big country and it's not easy to simply copy the Dutch example. I do hope one day they will also start investing in bicycle paths and better access for the disabled. Thanks for another great video! This channel will continue to be a great example.

      The argument "Well it's a big country." doesn't really count in my opinion. It's not about the country size, but about the structure of a town or city. American cities simply have an unnecessarily low density for the most part.

      Well whether or not the low density is unnecessary or not is kinda besides the point. (imo) It's the reality in most places. (I speaking mostly about the south because that's where I live) coming from a small compact country I tend to agree with the density part though. I do love the space here... I have a yard (size) most people can only dream off back home. I didn't mean to imply that simply because the U.S is a big country there is no room for improvement. Or that it is impossible. I was simply saying it's more difficult to introduce some of these changes. The Car culture or mind set needs to change first. It's a long road ahead for a big part of the U.S. almost literary. Ha!

      @@pinemoo bingo. think of it on a city-by-city basis. each city isn't that much bigger than any other dutch city.
      and it's not like you need to build bicycle infrastructure to travel between states. it's an intra-city thing.

    In my town Harderwijk (Netherlands) are many seniors riding their tricycle daily. It's common. Also two different men of 95 and 97 years old make a ride every day. Good physical and social movement for sure !

    Wow great video! My boyfriend lives in Den Bosch and he everyday uses a tricycle because of his disability. Luckily in the Netherlands you can do this kind of stuff.

    I ride 3 trikes. And no, I am not disabled, but I like the many avantages of riding on 3 wheels: less drag = goes faster, no saddle pain, stability under icy conditions, shorter brake distance. The first trike is for speed, the second is for off road and the third trike is a folding trike, which I can take with me on the train.

      how does a trike result in less drag? it would result in more drag from a larger wind cross section. plus more mass and more friction. not being able to bank to compensate for the turn radius actually makes trikes slower on turns.
      saddle pain is just switching out the seat - the number of wheels has nothing to do with it.
      stability under icy conditions 100%.

      Why do professional bicyclists crouch down on downhill runs? To reduce their wind drag. Well, sitting down on a semi recumbent tricycle has less wind drag than someone riding upright. I frequently overtake 2 wheel bicyclists on my Van Raam Easy Rider 3. As for cornering, it goes plenty fast enough around a corner, with its lower centre of gravity. Any faster, 2 or 3 wheels, you would be just showing off and risking a crash.
      Oh, seating. My tricycle has a beautiful backrest that promotes proper spinal posture. Unlike the hooped over stance of a bicycle rider.

    Don’t underestimate the difference, especially when you’re used to riding a 2wheel-bike. If you’re not, you will have no problem.
    Not only for the handicapped. It’s also and especially ideal for seniors : When people riding bikes get older they often experience more fear of falling that leads to being uncertain on the “normal” bike. The tricycle is the next step to be able continuing riding and excercise outside (physical and social wellbeing) for the seniors + preventing accidents and broken hips for instance.
    Everyone who is familiar with riding the 2wheelbike, will experience the unnatural feeling that the tricycle gives at first. Because on the tricycle you have to let go the balancing you were used to do automatically. And for older people who used to balance the bike their whole life, it’s heavier to let go and trust the fact that you cannot fall than it is for younger people. So if you never ride a 2wheelbike, you will have no problem to adjust because you have not learned to balance.
    Anyone can ride it though with some help at first to go as slow as you can, keep looking forward where you want to go and keep your feet on the pedals. Pull on the brakes after every few pedal strokes, stop, put the steering wheel in the right position, look forward and continue slowly, pull the breaks again and so on. Take a pause every 10 minutes or so because the unnatural feeling is tiring. Each time you climb back on the saddle, you will feel the improvement. No wonder that the number of Dutch seniors choosing a tricycle grows by the day. Freedom !
    If anyone wants to get help in getting used to the tricycle, you can turn to the Dutch Fietsersbond and ask for instructions.

    In the Netherlands I've also noticed bikes with very low step-through frames, which make it easier for people with restricted hip or knee movement to mount. Maybe you could feature these one day. I haven't seen them in other countries.

      AFAIK they're originally just "womens" bicycles, to allow for a skirt etc. Nowadays it's more mix and match, because they're easier to get on to but also tend to have a little sway due to the missing top bar.

      The frame type Tarquin is referring to is a varation of the women's bike frame. Here a a few examples: hollandbikeshop.com/fiets-kopen/lage-instap-fiets/. The difference is easy to see.

      Yes, you can get women's bikes (without crossbar) everywhere, but in NL I've noticed a particular design in which the step-though is much lower than on a standard women's bike. The step-though is also positioned further forward so as to avoid kicking the chainwheel/chaincase. These are often ridden by older people (men and women) or people whose mobility isn't so good.

      Tarquin Midwinter Their frames are quite flexible. So driving it in the mountain would be pretty scary IMHO.

    I have a mentally handicapped daughter, how hard we tried, she couldn't keep balance, at the age of 5 she got her first tricycle from the government, now she is 22 and has a mature size. We also have an electric tandem bike if we go to crowded traffic because she has a delayed reaction and not a good overview in the traffic.

    I love my VanRaam Easy Rider 3. I have had for about 5 months now. I am riddled with Rheumatoid Arthritis from age 7. The last time I could ride a bike. Now, at 64 years of age, I am reliving that wonderful freedom of riding a bike. I live in Australia and ride almost every day. Sometimes, a short 1 or 2 kilometres, and other days about 10 to 13. I am fortunate that my town is 90% flat, and that is the 90% I am interested in riding. My wife has one now and we often take our dog and go to the beach ,(6kms) for a Saturday picnic lunch. I hope to put this on RUclips one day soon.

    There are many types of barriers and other access problems that make using these kinds of bikes daily life in UK cities impossible! There's a fantastic charity near where I used to live in Salford, Wheels for All, that offers rides on adapted bikes to the disabled. They do great work, but unfortunately all they can do is go around a racing track, which is nothing like the freedom pictured here.

    A tricycle is not only for handicapt people but if you want to explore a new city. a tricycle is very nice to ride because you can do it slow and you can look around.

      They seem handy for transporting heavy items that would otherwise make your bike tip over easily.

      For the city that would be a good alternative, for the countryside not so much. I had to travel 90 km a day on a scooter to get to school. Battery powered scooters or ebikes aren't build for that yet. Also a lot of lower income people use it as their main (long distance) kind of transport. So ebikes and electric scooters should be promoted, but petrol scooters shouldn't be banned yet.

      I recall cross-country skiing in Yellowstone Park, we all cheered when we saw a crow pulling the lunch out of a snowmobiles saddlebags. A snowmobiler once cut in front of me in the high country of Colorado, ruining the trail; when the same snowmobiler was stuck near a tree he asked me to help him. I said, "No way".

      No matter what nationality.
      But since you like to generalize, let's compare the ecological footprints of the average citizens of those two countries. That would be 9.31 hectare for Australians versus 5.28 for the Dutch. Both far beyond a sustainable 1.63ha but the difference is significant, wouldn't you say?
      I could throw the "hypocrite" right back at you but I am not knowledgable of your personal life style. Let's all take responsibility for our own behaviour, shall we?
      How is your footprint going?
      Having said that, encouraging cycling versus driving does have a rather positive impact, both localy and globaly. That in itself is a good thing, isn't it?
      I do share your concern with the state of this planet, I really do.

    Today, July 3rd, here in Utrecht, on Biltstraat,by the Jumbo supermart, I saw an electric wheelchair with a platform behind, where a person, (caregiver) was standing. It looked like an teenager/young adult in the wheelchair.

    Although I'm not disabled and can ride a bike perfectly well, I'd LOVE to have a ride on one of those trikes. Back when I was a kid, one of Mum's friends had one and would let the local kids (which included me) take turns on it. I remember it being quite fun.

    My sister got a tricycle to use as a cheap cargo bike. Fortunately where she lives in the UK has some segrated cycle lanes network for your daily needs so it works for her. Other times she just rides a normal bike. It's also used for her non cycling experienced visitors who want to go on a ride.

    I actually recommended a tricycle to a co worker a week or two ago. He's well into his 60's and not very physically active. He also is fairly heavy, so I figured when he asked about bicycle, getting him on a standard bike may not be the best thing as he has not ridden in decades. My main concern was with him falling. At that weight and age, one call and that could be the end of his bicycling. While I am overall not a fan of tricycles, I do see their use for a select portion of the population and for some specialized use cases.

    It's nice bikes, I know a lot girls who want to ride bikes but afraid to ride because they are not kids and for different reasons not learning to ride. And tricycle is their way to ride comfortably =)

    The auto industry says bicycles . They get in cars way and the handle bars scratch car paint . I live in a place where car is king .
    The solution for me was to find the safe zones . To get from point A to B use parks , school yards , back streets , parking lots, board walks and of course " sidewalks ." Sidewalks are the god given links and use them to get from point A t B in north america .

      I also ride a trike and often have to use sidewalks, even though it's technically illegal where I live (East Coast, USA). I figure if it's a choice of my riding on a busy, high speed highway or a nice sidewalk running parallel to the road, there's no contest. If I should get a ticket, so be it. 😊

    Funny you bring out a video about Tricycles, just a couple of days ago, I was talking to me mom about looking to rent a electrically assisted tricycle for when my cousin comes and visits, she's a bit overweight and has never really ridden a bike ever since childhood, so I was thinking we could look into renting a tricycle so she would still be able to move about without having to rely and pay for public transport and we could remove the chances of her falling with the bike because of the extra wheel and I was thinking of an electric assisted one because we live one of the place in the Netherlands with hills.

      Sounds like a plan, but riding a bike is like riding a bike you never unlearn it. I'm willing to bet she would pick cycling in an afternoon. Especially an electric assisted one. The cycling is ridiclously safe in the netherlands compare to the rest of the world (well denmark might be the same). Reason I might try a 2 wheel electric assisted bicycle is they are easier to find a place to rents them.
      Also great plan to get her moving, she might start to like bicycling. And just about everyone needs more exercise these days.

    I like those side by side tricycle & handheld tricycle but they don't exist in our country India. I must buy one from that country but the price might kill

    Fabulous video again. You are the best. I live in New Zealand and love your videos. A suggestion now. You could also cover issues that people have with cycling.
    1 dangerous behaviour(phonesetc.)
    2 saddles (if a woman takes up cycling later in life the saddle is likely to pucker her pussy) There used to be oval saddles...
    3 Prevent theft of bike
    4 Why are other countries so slow in learning... Rather then reinvent the wheel they should take consultants on board. You would be the best ever. Welcome to New Zealand!

      I always ride my tricycle at 23kms/ hr. I overtake plenty of 2 wheel bikes. I am limited at hills because of my leg strength and very short peddle cranks. I normal person should be able to go up hills with my tricycle. It has mountain gearing.

    We purchased this Vivi 27.5” electric bike and a Tentaquil 26” electric bike for our 13 and 14 year olds. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxUiL0GnyDjP32RJdd660sP8mZk4CRLTCJ The Vivi was much easier to put together. With the Vivi, there was a video link to assist with assembly which made the process easier to follow (we did put the handlebars on upside down, but it was a quick and easy fix). With the Tentaquil, the assembly was not as simple to follow, but after we messaged the company for an assembly video, it was easier and they did respond quickly. The other major differences were that the Vivi has a grip throttle on the right handle (like a motorcycle) and the Tentaquil has a push throttle that you use your thumb to activate. The monitors were also different, so if you’re looking for something specific in terms of changing the bikes functions, pay attention to what the monitor offers. We were really impressed with the overall quality and functionality of both bikes, but if you’re looking for more power and an easier assembly, definitely go with the Vivi!

      Rutger B I mean like too slow lol. Like 10 mph? 15 to 20 here is more natural here in the UK but we have to cycle that fast otherwise we die.

      I think the average biking speed in NL is 15kph. They don't seethe need to bike quickly anymore than you see the need to run when you are walking. Biking quickly is just a view of cycling from a sports perspective.

      Many Dutch cyclists, especially in cities, also have single speed bikes, no gears. And they're dressed for the destination, not the journey. People don't want a workout, it's more about comfort and convience.
