I'm 90's kids. The Sega Genesis was the very first gaming console that I had the pleasure of owning. I used to get so frustrated and quit playing often back in the '90s when I was trying to beat Sonic the Hedgehog (1991), Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (1992), and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles (1994). I also recall the Game Genie for Sega Genesis.

Sonic 2, Streets of Rage 2, Comic Zone were easily in my top 5 favorite Genesis games. I remember one morning I played Comic Zone and got so far before school, but I didn't wanna start over, so I let the system run all day. It was nuclear hot when I got home.
Sonic, the first one, Revenge of Shinobi, Dune Battle for Arrakis and Shining Force 2 were games that had a big impact on me, when I first got my Sega, Altered Beast was the game that came with it

Crazy that out of all games it's Comix Zone that got the highest score. It's usually to brutally hard for most people. Super underrated game though, I love it.
That was NOT the entire first level of Streets of Rage 2 - you had to go into that bar, beat up everyone, then go into the back alley and beat the real boss of level 1!
Streets of Rage 2 is a phenomenal game that holds up even today. The first game I got, along with Sonic 1, with my Mega Drive (UK). I was so excited, I even dressed up like Axel in a white shirt, jeans and fingerless gloves. Great to see the younger generations enjoying it too.
A six button controller is essential for this game. It Makes it way easier to control. You get a block button, and a single button for each of the 3 inventory slots.
Christ this makes me feel old (I'm 46). I find it hard to come to terms with the fact that many young people have never played on these consoles. The fact they missed the golden era of gaming (along with movies and music too!). I actually feel sorry for them because everything these days is legit garbage.
Comix Zone is an amazing game. I never played it on the console but I did play it on Windows. The first time I saw it, a schoolmate was playing it in IT class. I was mindblowed 🤯

And for those who don't know, new games are announced in development by Sega, games like Jet Set Radio, Golden Axe, Shinobi, Crazy taxi and many more. Sega forever!

Man I remember when Sonic 2 came out. "Sonic 2'sday" across the world. Of course I got the game when it was first released. And I was among the lucky people who got BOTH Altered Beast as well as Sonic the Hedgehog (through a free voucher) with my first Genesis console.
For me the first time playing genesis was in late 1992 (or maybe 1993), Streets of Rage 2, and that magical first expression forever stayed with me! I was a first grader back then, I was playing with another kid in the neighborhood, we never became friends though!
It's great seeing first experiences on these games which for my generation are extremely familiar staples.. I love the Megadrive. I hope these guys discover more classics from their own searching
It warms my hearts to see kids enjoying the games I grew up loving. It's good to have short games with no stakes, no grinding, no post game, no dlc, it's a short fun experience and that's all it has to be.
Shining Force and Shining Force II are *amazing* games, but they don’t lend themselves to this kind of format. It takes a fair amount of time to get to the first battle… plus, it really starts to click when new characters join and existing characters level-up. Hours of time would be needed to appreciate these games (for someone new to the genre). They aren’t pick-up-and-play games. But I love them! :)

It was one of the last Genesis games before the Saturn hit production. Critically acclaimed.

Genesis has so many good games. You should do a round 2 and get em playing Shinobi, Golden Axe, Outrun, Shining Force, Ecco, and Vectorman.

Well all the action buttons do the same thing. And start pauses the game. The dpad moves Sonic. Truly a complicated control scheme. :D
