- Today, my son, Elijah, joined me to help translate some of the current Gen Z slang. I don’t know about you, but it’s like a foreign language to me - no cap (did I do that right? lol). “Bussin” and “simp” are actually AAVE! - African American Vernacular English. It’s been around for a while, it’s actually like a whole nother language! African Americans/ POC (people of color) recently brought the word “bussin” into Tik Tok due to a trend, but i wouldn’t say that it’s a tik tok word because it’s been around for many years :)
yesss literally most “tik tok words” are really AAVE 😭

This was so helpful! I’m always asking the kids what they are saying! I have a 14 and just turned 17 year old so I definitely get it!
