This is such a great video. Been tempted to get a ribbon mic or just build one from micparts, and this video helps show the Royer is a great choice if I can get my hands on one. Also, I'm really happy that there's a music school in Ridgewood! Wish this was around when I was starting music at IS77!
Thanks for that cool video! You can clearly hear a difference between all these mics. However I feel that on the high notes, the trumpet always sounds very thin, kind of „boxy“. I have the same issue in my home studio. Is this because of the room and recording situation? Would love to see another video on that topic.
Just for the sake of leaving a comment. I'll try the V7x because it's more balanced than the SM57. Then the Rode NT1 with its quiet top end. Then the KSM32 according to the reviews.
love your videos and energy Bob, to the point as always. I decided to learn the trumpet after many years as a drummer and this instrument is fantastic, should have started it earlier, love it!
Yeah those ribbon mics sound niiiice. I have to say, i do like the Electro Voice RE 20 a lot. Its not as warm as the ribbon mics but its got a clarity that makes a difference. Great video. Enjoyed it and learned something.
Great video. Really appreciate the perspective. Super helpful. Is that a Martin Committee? Would love to hear your thoughts on trumpets you've used/owned.
For home recording, or even performance, what about clip on mic's? I get some great recordings from mine but I do need to filter out the low sounds, including the valves sounds!
Thanks for the informative video! The sE VR1 or VR2 are also awesome ribbons designed for brass and don’t break the bank, especially used.
Great video! I got a SM7B around a year ago. Couldn’t live without it😂
What is the best microphone to record trumpet according to your opinion?

The Royer and your Martin sound great together don’t they!? Love the channel. Keep it up!
Lots of great info here and just overall excellent pacing. Great job on this video!
Excellent video, very helpful. Thanks so much for making this.

love your content. Something I would love to hear you talk about are trumpet tricks like glisses and Doits and shakes.

I use the Warm Audio WA47 jr. Works great for trumpet.
Thanks for all the great advice! Do you happen to know where to buy a Fathead II? They seem to be all sold out.
Hello! I read that the AT2035 it's the equivalent of AT3035. What do you think about it? Thanks!
how to stop the airy sound ? will pop filter help ?
Nice work....
Is a mic like the WA47 also good for playing live?
I wouldn't recommend it, I'd be scared it'd get damaged, and for live work you want something more directional
Do you have favorite mic picks for LIVE performance? Both wired and wireless?
