Good starter / generator to save as a core or if you need a bearing or pulley some day!! I wouldn't rebuild it!! Some day you may be able to make two old ones into a working unit!! 😊
Should it be steady or will it bounce up and down,I'm having an issue where the voltage drops under 12 when I'm under 5 or 6 mph and the gage is bouncing from 13.8 to 15 volts even at a steady speed of 12 mph,any help would be greatly appreciated
Just FYI, I was reading reviews of the cheap 140 dollar ish starters on Amazon and they aren't any good, I'd like to see what a real mechanic with experience has would say to that.
There still used on most golf carts. At $75 replace it, 20 years ago I was paying 3-$400 for a new one so we would always replace brushes. That commutator was worn badly, a lot of hours on it

Believe I would buy a new one.
Another great videos! Definitely would buy a new one at that point
Replace the whole thing 👍
That is a 100% replacement.
Never seen an armature worn down about an 1/8"? Bearings and brushes are easy, but not that?
Excellent
The case in the steel bin. The core in the copper bin. Or is that done anymore?
I don’t think so. It all goes in one big pile.
Burnt electrical smell and differential fluid are aweful. Lol
Replacement is in order.
What should the voltage output be
13.8-14.5

That one was fried! Replace with a new one.
Right hand threads, look at the end of the shaft.
It’s actually keyed. No threads. Pulley should just slide off
Put it in lathe turn it down make a scraper from hacksaw blade clean the Mica out put new brushes & springs in
Heck no. New one is 75$
New !

The labor cost of rebuilding it with parts.
Buy a new one save the pully and any good screws.
This if you.
Needed if you loose one
Just replace it and be done
Replace it...
You didn't show the magnets and windings inside the housing. I'm sure they're burned too. Not worth messing with. Junk it
There are no magnets they have field windings
I didn't know they even still made starter- generators. I haven't seen one on any engine dating to later than the late 1960s.
Golf carts still use them
Replace it. Not wort money, time and warranty issues. Can’t break broke. Learn a LOT by tearing it apart. Take care
Replace it👍
Just order a replacement and save your time, losing money looking at it
Definitely nothing but replace it
First
Buy new😂
Buy a new one. Never had any luck with rebuild.

That starter gen is smoked. Not a candidate for repair.
Order a new one rebuilding it ain't worth the time.. unless the customer is in a bend
I would buy a new because you don't know what else is wrong with it.
Smells like cooked brushes to me?
recycle, scrap
