This song makes me cry so bad. I am korean army livin in Seoul. I cry really hard in the line:Han River that bears too much 'Han'. If any Korean hear the song and lyrics, they'll definitely cry😢.. (Han=deep resentment that continued long before. Mostly used for emotion that feels victimized or suffers unfairness for a long time. And you will feel 'Han' if you supress your feeling.)Actually ..there is no word in English to describe it... Han river is famous for beautiful view and biggest river in Seoul city. But also known as a river where people go to kill themselves the most. If somebody says " I was in Han river last 'night' ", that means a lot. As in RM's mv. He was in Han River at night maybe just for a walk..but mostly because of the hardship. Fortunately, he answered the phone and said "..I gonna go back now". That really hurts me..
Something curious about the video is that in the lyrics Namjoon writes: “The Han River that bears too much Han” The bridges over the Han River in Seoul are known as suicidal hotspots. In the part when namjoon is talking in the phone he says “Hello? Yeah I’m at Han River, but I’m gonna leave now.” Idk what to think about this but make you own theory
Mariana Cardenas I found a translation of that clip where the caller's side was amplified as well (I think in the Vlive version, you can hear both sides of the conversation but I'm not sure), and it seemed like one of the members (sounded like V) had called, and asked "Hyung, where are you?" And after he says, "But I'm leaving now", he replies back "Come back safe" and he says "okay". No theories though, just found it touching. Although, I looked up Han and this is what I found: Han is derived from the Chinese character 恨, which means hatred or regret. According to theTranslation Journal, "Han is frequently translated as sorrow, spite, rancor, regret, resentment or grief, amongmany other attempts to explain a concept that has no English equivalent." Explains the line. Han River has too much sorrow/regret/grief in it because it's a suicide hotspot.
Maybe! But Han river is also a place where people take strolls or ride a bike. It's where RM wrote the song Spring Day and Reflection so he prob has a lot of fond memories. :)
Maybe it's so special to him because of the dichotomy of emotions that he can associate with that place. Seoul is after all a song that deals with the dualities of the city. Love and hate, fondness and sorrow. I'm just always baffled by how his lyrics go deep enough to bring out so many and such layered interpretations.
I live in Seoul. When I first heard this song, i cried. Because its exactly what he thinks. Seoul has many buildings. There is not much wood. It's just city. But I live there. He lived in a lake park in Ilsan(from south Korea) He likes lakes and trees. So "I hate you Seoul " and "I love you Seoul " But Seoul is still beautiful and pretty. 😂😁
Han river is known for a place of many people who have committed suicide in that river. so saying that Han river has too much Han, hes saying the river people commit suicide at bears too much loneliness. the phone was Joon and Tae.....v asked him where he was and Joon said he was at Han river but he said he was leaving...v told him to be safe and Joon said OK
Han is a more complicated concept than loneliness though; it's specific to Korea and it's difficult to translate into English. It was born from the grief of injustices the country suffered throughout its history, and it became kind of an ongoing journey from that deep sorrow and trauma to hope and peace. It reflects the paradox that light can't exist without darkness, that birth must end in death, and so on - which I think is kind of a theme in Mono overall. So the Han River bears a lot of Han not just from depression and suicide, but also from that whole aspect of life in general...if that makes sense.
"han river that bears too much han" -- hes referring to the han river as 'han (한)' means lonely in korean and the han river is known for a place of many people who have committed suicide in that river. so saying that han river has too much han, hes saying the river people commit suicide at bears too much loneliness. edit: i just read from another comment that in the video when he picks up the phone he says "hello? yes, i am at the han river but im gonna leave now" -- i think this shows how he has had suicidal thoughts (which i am not surprised at considering the amount of hate bts used to get, especially namjoon), but i think it means that hes finally getting past that phase and is leaving the thoughts behind im deFINITELY NOT CRYING AT THIS LYRICAL GENIUS 🤧😭
Yes. "Han (which is the korean word for 恨)" is not only loneliness but also a sort of sorrow or regrets. It's actually a word without a true English translation. "한 - Han Meaning: A notion that is often considered to be unique to Korea, han is the collective feeling of sadness and oppression. It is a cultural concept that can be ascribed to the nation’s extensive history of attacks and invasions from other countries. Often difficult to translate, the Los Angeles Times describes han to be 'as amorphous a notion as love or hate: intensely personal, yet carried around collectively, a national torch, a badge of suffering tempered by a sense of resiliency.'" rm’s music helps so many people. he really is incredible. its good that his music is helping you too. i hope you find a way to cope with whatever anxiety you are feeling💜
Moonchild easily became my favourite song because of many many reasons 😭💙 Its so good and seoul is also great 💕 this whole album is just perfect for people that have anxiety or depression and other ❤️ dylan you are truly an amazing reactor luv u 😽❤️
ive been commenting a lot 😂 but how u said that listening to rms playlist helped u alot the past few days, it just comes to show how much bts's music helps so many people. i remember in a concert he said that if we're facing a pain thats worth 100 then even if they can reduce it down to 99 or 98 their existence is good enough, all that matters is that they help armys through their bad times, and that makes me so happy cos other artists do care about their fanbases but bts really make it all about us and helping us and thats what i love so much about them 💖
RM's mixtape doesn't tell you to get over hardships and smile to life, instead he conveys that he'll cry with you and together you'll talk it out through music. I'm not crying, you are
I am Korean. I didn't know you had hard times. I knew from the translated video ... I remember my late dad, who's in heaven now. I understand your feelings. Thank you for being able to communicate and empathize with music. 💪🏻💪🏻🥰
Now THIS, ladies & gentlemen, is how you should appreciate rm's masterpieces. Man i think you got a new sub. Seriously, the way you analyze it on a personal level is quality content. (I recommend DDKTV if you want to understand the word play, especially 'Ddaeng explained by a Korean', a mf work of art)
for moonchild, if youve heard the song taehyung made and included rm in (its called 4 o'clock) namjoon mentions moonchild and i dont remember clearly but i think the song was about the moonchild crying (?) but moonchild is the complete opposite to 4 o'clock saying "moonchild dont cry"
RM mentions in his Vlive on Mono that he wrote moonchild before 4 o'clock and 4o'clock is kinda like an answer/sequel to moonchild. It's interesting to listen to them in that sequence
Moonchild was basically a book that RM read... It was about homosexuality.... And RM shared this book with us and told us that he really liked this book..... So I think Moonchild might be a song for LGBTQ community people also ..... That's what I liked to believe and as we know how much RM has supported this community from the very start with sharing songs like "Same Love".... I think I am 70% correct
wow your story really matches the song i think rm is saying the people who are walking in darkness cant wait for the sun to come out in order to be happy or motivated again. people in dark spots in their life have to learn to dance in the dark, and find the light in darkness (aka the moon)
I plan on moving there in the future. It's so beautiful there. And Moonchild... I feel is very complex in its own way. I don't know what to make of it. Also, please know that my DMs are always open and you can hit me up if you need to talk or anything, bro. Great video.
moonchild here hav many meaning, first for people who doesnt like crowded, and get calmly from moon light than sun, or people whohave late work (to know in korean have longest work hour if iam not wrong) and in the middle of their work they like go to rooftop to have some air and watching moon
💜The part where he’s on the phone is actually a reference to the HYYH storyline. It goes back to the video Forever Young. And Seoul is a wordplay song at times with him meaning “Seoul”, “soul”, “so”.💜
I interpret moonchild in such a way that I think it's someone who is lonely, or sad and goes to the moon for answers. Anyone ever just look at the moon and just think, like ask questions about life because you don't know what to do. That's how I interpret moon child, and honestly the song speaks to me a lot too. I feel sad and quite lonely a lot, so on nice nights I'll sit outside and just stargaze, thinking about life, ask questions and hope for a reply. I don't know if that's weird but it's me.
I see others thought the same thing about Moonchild that I did with the phone booth and the reference back to the mv for Reflection. There has also been a reference to the Han River as a spot where alot of suicides take place. I found this song to be introspective and maybe shows some of his feelings of depression that he has mentioned in the past. But it is defenitely one of those "makes you think" songs.
It seems to mean Han River that has always watched people's loneliness and difficulties in life in the space of Seoul for a long time. So Han River has many 'han' I think Here the Han River is expressed as a old friend. Many People visit the Han River a lot to relax or enjoy meditation when they are tired or need to rest
I'm sure namjoon go to Han river just to strolling and relaxing and sometimes alone sometimes with the bts members bcus on few video he mention that and in the song reflection he saying he likes to go to ttkeumsom which is at Han river
Moon child and Forever Rain is my favourites EDIT : Dylan, Moon Child in my opinion is all about the LGBTQ community who's afraid to come out. Like in Korea. He's speaking to them. He's kind of comforting them. Forever Rain is a song I can relate to alot. It speaks to me.
