    I got mine last week and use it for the first time yesterday. Wow! What a close shave I got. I used a feather blade because I like to tempt fate. I was nervous for nothing. I just took it slow and not one cut in the end. I love this razor. It's become my favorite.

    The Muhle R41 is hands down the best. Even above my Timeless stainless steel .95 OC. You are certainly correct in that the handle is a bit slippery. Paul thank you so much for all you do.

    Lol 😂 this is one of the very first shaving videos I ever watched! I was so confused on what exactly happened, it was kinda like a Benny Hill clip all of a sudden in the middle of a serious learning experience for me at the time because I was just getting started in DE Shaving! Now I’m researching the R41 and finely I’ve figured out what video it was that you walk in on yourself and wish yourself well with your shave 😆 I love this video I hadn’t saw it since the first time I watched years ago! Finally I just ordered a R41 mins ago. PH you are the reason I got into DE Shaving thanks for all the reviews & information and you keep everything entertaining, love your channel!

    I friggin love this guy!!! I have seen Paul shave with this razor in several posts and although he warns of the aggressiveness, I can't believe how quickly and flawlessly he shaves with this razor. I have one on the way and am intently watching Paul's techneiqe. The first pass looked close enough.

    I absolutely love this razor. The R41 easily gives me the closest shave of any razor I've ever tried; not one hair in any direction left on my face and neck. What a joy to use.

    Hi Paul, thank you for this video. I was using an classical wilkinson plastic savety razor for 17 years now without thinking about an improvement for it was always somehow ok. (Better than any system 3-Mach or such stuff). I am often lazy with shaving, so I decided to buy the Muhle r41 for cutting the wood. You showed to me the possibilities of this razor. I will start with it a little bit slower...

    Paul-these videos are timeless sort of like a nice bottle of vintage wine! The R41 is now in my shave den. Just 2 passes for me. Can't shave ATG. And not an everyday razor! My technique is good but the Muhle R89 remains my daily go to. Gotta share I used the R41 debut with no nicks. Short strokes with much respect. I could really feel the blade but not uncomfortable. Nice shave!

      I agree on not being able to shave ATG with R41. I tried to shave ATG a couple of times but I had to stop because it felt so uncomfortable..especiallu in neck area. I think if you have thick beard then milder razor is actually better.

    Thanks James, yes I would say it is more aggressive than setting 3 on the Futur, but those who have used the Futur say that setting 6 is even more aggressive than the R41. Thanks. Paul.

    I use the handle of the R41 on my Parker 26C head, perfect weight and balance and a nicer, closer shaver. Does BBS with easy buffering, no irritation on sensitive areas but still has the necessary aggression for the first 2 passes. it also happens to be one of the cheaper razors too. Quality is way up on this mid 2014 launched razor too. Its just i like the R41 handle weight better but nothing wrong with the one that came with it for sure Paul. Its the 1 razor to rule them all, and in the darkness hide 'em!

    Hey Paul I got mine several days ago and I think I'm in love LOL , been shaving every day with it ever since. It gives me a nice smooth shave with one pass , zero pressure and no irritation. Although I wouldn't recommend this razor for a heavy handed person , it feels so exposed that I think it has the potential to bite you. Thanks for the video

    I recently received many gifts from my friend from the Shave Den and included were many things along with the Muhle R-41 . If you remember that was my first safety razor and I ended up trading it to get the slim adjustable. I couldn’t afford to keep both razors at the time so I had to make a choice and I always said I would get it again and here fate brought us back together once again!!
    He also gave me 2 Gillette ball end techs gold/silver
    2 Schick kronas
    Gem micromatic
    And a few other things that I’m forever greatful for !! Being a week or 2 away from my one year into Traditional WetShaving I have to say I came a long way!!

    Paul, I hope you are keeping well. I'd just like to ask you a question about the speed of the stroke used when shaving with a DE razor. Is it possible that even if all of the other factors are right (your face is properly prepped, you have your angle correct and are applying minimal pressure with a clean blade), that simply by using too little speed on your stroke, you could cause yourself difficulty because you don't have enough forward momentum to slice through the stubble with ease. I imagine that many beginners through a mix of both caution (and a fear of ripping their face to pieces!) could be guilty of not going sufficently fast and causing unneccesary snagging problems. Did you have any experience with this when starting out. You seem to move the blade fairly fast, so any input would be appreciated. Is there an ideal stroke speed in your experience, that is fast enough to be efficient, but not so much so where you could do yourself serious injury.? I'd really appreciate some feedback on this aspect of shaving Paul if you could spare the time. Take care.

    • @PaulHFilms
      @PaulHFilms  9 лет назад +2

      Martin Kingston Hi Martin, the speed thing is really just something which comes with time I suppose, I don't race or rush the shave, but it is my "just right" pace if you like..it can have an effect on dragging or tugging if the razor is glided slowly, especially if the beard growth is a few days worth, the thing I do, the milder the razor, the shorter the strokes, and rinse well and often, the more aggressive you can make the strokes longer, as the razor doesn't tend to clog up as quick....hope this helps...all the best..Paul.

    • @martinkingston1498
      @martinkingston1498 9 лет назад

      PaulHFilms Thanks for the reply Paul. I have probably just been too cautious with the DE Razor and need to develop better technique. They are pretty unforgiving in the hands of a newcomer though, especially if you are nervous. On a lighter note, I hope you are not financially ruined after your recent trip to London, it looked like you had a great time. You could fall victim to S.A.D ( Shaving Accumulative Disorder) after seeing all those goodies! Anyway, best wishes and take care of yourself.

    hi Paul i just did i shave with a muhle r41 and a personna med prep blade i did a 3 pass but even with this razor and others i have i always seem to get sand paper patch spots on my neck after every shave seems only way i can get rid of them is by useing my merkur 37 c slant bar useing grapeseed oil and doing the j-hook trick seems i can continuosly go over the areas and still hear cutting sound

    • @PaulHFilms
      @PaulHFilms  10 лет назад

      I know what you mean, I have a patch on my neck which has that, sometimes it's a area were the hair growth is in all directions, like a spiral if you like. But as you say, best thing is to do what works, especially if you want the baby smooth finish.. I go over it again against the growth several passes which does the trick.

    I had my first shave with my R41 and it was amazing. Definitely a different beast from the Edwin Jagger DE89 I have (which I also love). I actually thought this was easier to use than my EJ. A little goes a long way, I didn't have to do any work whatsoever. Some areas, with the grain passes got it so smooth. I will say, the first time I put it to my face, I definitely noticed the aggression, I can imagine this is as close to a straight razor as you can get, all I felt on my face was the blade. But I loved it, didn't require any pressure whatsoever and the results were spectacular. Aftershave didn't even burn

    • @PaulHFilms
      @PaulHFilms  10 лет назад

      That is a sign of an excellent shave, when there is no aftershave burn, you know you have got it just right...good razor the R41, shaves with no prisoners taken...all the best and thanks..Paul.

      PaulHFilms Hey Paul, I've been using the R41 for the last 3 months and this week for the first time I went back to my EJ DE89. I have to say, while it is a beautiful razor, I don't think I can use it anymore regularly. Now that I've gotten the R41 down cold, I really had a hard time adjusting to DE89. For me, the R41 has been incredible

    Just had my 1st shave with my Muhle R41, using Taylor's shaving cream and feather blades, tried to go slow and get the angle right, cut myself 9 times all over my face, the razor makes me anxious and rightly so, got a close shave though! After shaving I looked like Edward scissorhands had been let loose on me, maybe I'll try a different blade? Astra or someat else.. I've no idea what I did wrong 😤😤 I'm finding that no matter what razor I use, it doesn't glide over my face very well, maybe it's my cream??, I shower before my shave, hot wet towel after that, then shaving oil, then lather cream on my face, never got any cuts with my Merker 34C razor, but wanted the R41 for a closer shave 😔😔

    • @PaulHFilms
      @PaulHFilms  8 лет назад

      +Wayne Harris Very aggressive razor and blade that combination, maybe try an astra, personna...it could be your angle maybe, it should get better with each shave, and it should "feel" right when shaving. Have you tried Maca Root shaving cream? Very slick and good for aggressive shaves I find...good luck for future shaves Wayne....all the best....Paul.

    I had my first shave with this razor, and boy does it get scary close, even with my 2013 model I had to take great care with my technique on a 3 pass shave. A few nicks, but one must suffer for their art lol

    Best Regards

    Paul, I chose a random video of yours to ask you a question: Have you ever tried Dettol shaving cream, which I think is made in India? Also, is it available in your country? If you can let me know, I would appreciate it. I saw some Dettol bar soap in an Indian grocery store here once, and I bought some. It was a deodorant soap, which I liked pretty well. I don't recall seeing the shave cream there.

      I have seen the soap bar here, not sure of the shaving cream Don.

    Hey Paul! I am waiting for mine to arrive today. I intend on using it for daily or 2 day growth. I do not really need an aggressive razor but i like the way they feel on my skin and the audio feedback is a must for me. I am only shaving DE style for about a month now so i am not pro in any way but i am careful. Do you think the Muhle r41 is a good every day razor?

    • @PaulHFilms
      @PaulHFilms  11 лет назад

      You should love this razor if you like aggressive, as for a daily razor I would not recommend it, but it does depend how sensitive your skin is, and your beard growth and thickness etc..try it, it may work as a daily for you.

    New to DE shaving and have found all of your videos very informative and amusing Paul, thank you.
    Now after a mere week of training on the Merkur 34cHD, I am obviously an expert and have just ordered the r41 (over the Futur) on the basis of this video - I will live and learn!

    • @PaulHFilms

      Ian M Good luck with your new purchase Ian...DE shaving can become addictive..lol...all the best..Paul.

      Update for any potential newbies to DE shaving like me - I have found the r41 (with feather) very unforgiving. I had an 'ahah' moment for about a minute when I must have hit its sweet spot but for the other 99% of the time of the several shaves I have had with it, it has left my face ablaze. Maybe best to listen to advice and get a bit more experience before taking it on!?
      However, have just had my first shave with a Futur (with feather) on setting 1 and it was fabulous and easy- baby bum smooth and no irritation. Only wondering why there needs to be another 5 settings to go at? Forget the rest - get a Futur.

    As I see U prefer to shave after 3 days of growth and I think that any t-razor performs better in this situation comparably to 1-2 days of bristle growth. Am I right?
    What T-razor do U recommend for shaving short bristle after ~2 days of growth? I believe that it is harder task to get BBS effect.
    Thanks!

    • @PaulHFilms
      @PaulHFilms  9 лет назад +1

      BAU Yes your right, for me anyway, I get much better closer shaves after a few days growth, I find a good razor on short growth or used more frequent without any razor burn (for me)...is the Merkur Slant 39c razor...not mild, and yet not aggressive...good luck hope this helped...Paul.

    Always enjoy your videos Paul. You are a staple here with your shaving videos. Just don't understand why 3 passes are needed with such an aggressive razor. I use a Tech and get a BBS with 3 passes and you and I seem to have the same thickness growth after 3 days. Just seems like you are taking a chance of a serious nick with 3 passes when you could use a milder razor and get the same results.

    • @PaulHFilms
      @PaulHFilms  10 лет назад

      Derek Vinyard Thanks Derek, I don't use the R41 daily, but only after several days growth, I just enjoy the 3 passes, very lightly though..and good cream, but I know what you mean yes..your tech sounds like it does the job well too...all the best..Paul.

  • @chantastic9199

    Paul, I've been seeking a closer shave than my milder razors have been giving. I hear stories of how even experienced shavers get weepers with this razor. Did you find you had to be very delicate with this razor compared to your others? Also, is this an open comb version?

    • @PaulHFilms
      @PaulHFilms  9 лет назад

      chan tastic You can get weepers with any razor of course, I do...but yes I would say when you feel the open-ness of the blade, you just guide the razor gently and let it do the work, no pressure at all, makes a big difference in irritation and in nicks and cuts, this goes for any open comb or aggressive razor...all the best...Paul.

    Ha ha. Love the camera trick Paul. Great video yet again.
    I have both the futur and R41 also. I find the futur on setting 6 to be a fair bit more aggressive than the R41.
    My futur was my favorite and most expensive razor and I love it, but there's something special about the R41. It's quickly becoming my new favorite.

    its a bloody good razor....only de i have ever used....as long as you shave properly and dont go crazy its cool and the gang....but i find its a bit too aggressive with me if i use a feather blade.

    This is such a great razor. I was worried about taking chunks out of my face after watching some videos om here. However like Paul says just go easy and you shouldn't cut yourself. I get weepers on the third pass with the R41 but I think thats more my shoddy technique than anything else. An alum block soon sorts them out though. Great shave Paul I like the Wilkinson Sword blades but I like using feathers in it as well as Astras and Gillette Seven o clock Sharps. You sound like you are from North Wales like me too. Am I right?

    Hey Paul!
    I shaved my skin against the grow for the first time. It was ok but I feel that my skin is irritated. Is this normal? Maybe my skin needs a little bit time to get used to the shave against the grow. What about you? Do you had this problem too at the beginning? I use the proraso shaving cream. Do you know it?

    • @PaulHFilms
      @PaulHFilms  10 лет назад

      Kamil Antolak Hello, yes it is normal to feel irritation when you first start, but in order to have a good shave and let your skin adjust to this way of shaving, maybe only go against the growth every other shave...also maybe add some shaving oil to your skin before adding the lather, that will help too..good luck..all the best...Paul.
