Much respect. I was into metal growing up, and still am, though I have branched out, into old blues, and jazz by John Coltrane and Max Roach too. When it came to punk though back in the day, I heard a lot of bands through a girlfriend at the time who was a punk. Except for Triumph, everything she listened to was punk. It was DOA who got to me through all the metal I was into, and a lot of it was deeper metal than the party and fast car stuff, so I was into some politics in songs. But DOA really put politics into songs, like Pete Seeger on speed while driving a car and hitting the nitrous oxide switch! And for DOA to be a Canadian punk band? As a Canadian I was caught up in their stuff for sure. And then when they did that album with Jello Biafra? Awesome stuff. It is kind of ironic that DOA was the one punk band she hadn't heard, and I got HER into :) Again, much respect for everything Rollins says in that clip... And anybody reading this now, DOA's most recent album Treason is incredible!!!

+Phil Garner I wonder why it's such a big deal to him, I could be wrong but I always thought Henry always played it straight... He had enough personality & energy that he didn't have to do any drugs. He probably hardly even got drunk. It doesn't affect him directly, and if any of his fans got nabbed for drugs or underage drinking, why doesn't he see it as essentially a good thing because it's a deterrent and might motivate them to clean up/dry out? Don't understand this at all.

Henry Rollins Respect for what you said here Bieng Punk is not bad it is being yourself. I am glad and proud to be that way nyself . I am not super religious into orgsnized religion nthing much against themit must br good for alot of folks and if they are into it good for them. I was sent to Catholic school FROM FIRST GRADE AND HAD SOME DISAGREEMENT WITH ALL THHE MONEY COLECTED AND WHERE THE NONEY WENT. i AM SURE SOME WENT TO GOOD CAUSES BUT HAVIG CANNED FOOD BROUGHT IN AND COLLECTED TO HELP THE POOR. a GOOD THING i WENT WITH SOME PARENTS TO TAKE IT TO PLACES IN mEXICO TO POOR KIDS IN ORFINIGES. a GOOD THING THE PARENTS VOLENTEERED BUT DID THEY GET HELP WITH GAS AND MEXICAN INSURENCE YOU NEED TO GET tHE PLACES i GO DOWN THERE MY SELF ARE NOT SO BAD LIKE i HAVE HEARD ABOUT LIKE TE CARTELS. i LIVED THERE FOR A SUMER WHEN KICKED OUT OF MY HOUSE . i WAS KICKED OUT BY MY MOM ONE MORNING FOR A GIRL JUST IN MY BED SHE NEEDED SOMEPLACE TO STAY SO i LET HER COME HOME WITH ME . i DONT THINK WE EVEN HAD SEX BUT THATS NOT WHAT IT WAS ABOUT. i DID NOT REMEMBER HER NAME AND ASKED HER TO TELL MY MOM. wENT DOWNSTAIRS TO OACK SOME THINGS AND MY DAD JUST SHRUGED HIS SHOULDERS WITH A SMILE ON HIS FACE LIKE WHAT DID YOU EXPECT? I loaded my surfboard fins and dive mask a hawian sling and headed south. Not alot of money No big deal I only made half minimum wage working for my dad living under his roof. but living rough getting beat with a belt without breakinf the rules and paying a ton of money too me to him making hardly any life forced me to be what I am. I had to work on my trucks to be able to drive A cheap toy 4 wheel drive did not cost more insurance but needed a lot of work. To replace a clutch or transmission you broke driving them harder than you should . Like my second one with a built motor fast for a 4 cylinder. With pullng the transfer case and tranny too putting in a performance clutch and racing a little new 6 cylinders on bigger tires on stock gears on the street with all the traction. Would break a transmiddion every year and I was under it in the dirt changing them with rebuilt ones I could buy waxing a lot of cars and other stuff do drive. Living in Baja with 4x4 is needed for wwhat I did, Surfing is what I loved and driving off road and beaches yo get to good spots that were bigger not crowded and great. The place I lived wads a paradise gomming from california in Highschool playing pUNK rOCK AT kEG pARTIES WAS FUN STUFF. tHE sRUMMER AND i STARTED OUR BAND IN A ADVANCED CLASS PHYCHOLOGY. i WAS NOWAT PUBLIC SCHOOL BUT AFTERGRADE SCHOOL i TOOK AN ENTRANCE EXAM AND GOT INTO A ALL BOYS CATHOLIC HS SURE THE CHILI pEPPERS SONG IS GREAT cATHOLIC sCHOOL gIRLS rULE IS SOME TRUE BUT ?? i MADE A DEAL WITH MY PARENTS iF i DID NOY LIKE IT THE FIRST YEAR i WAS GONE TO THE PUBLIC ONE UP THE STREET . wHEN i DID NOT SRR GIRLS GROM THE 2 GIRLS SCHOOLS i WAS TOLD ABOUT. i PASSED ALL MY CLASSES BUT WANTED OUT. tHEY SAID NO WTF we had a deal and that was messed up. I went and had to get out with my dad beltimg me I taught my self to fight. Would stand up fpr what was moral and right and others would come swining at me pushing them away at first with a warning and when they come back again. I would throw a puncj I knew worked from whwrw I lived bigger kids would have us smaller ones fight to win. They would grt hit good and hard run off cry to the teachers they would find out what I did was getting hit by rthem and punched them one back, It was good and I told my dad I wont take a beating for nothing wrong i did It helped and stopped alot of that was great and playing in D.M.M. Drunks Against Madd Mothers at EG parties With my DAMM drummer I met and startes to surf next to the HB Pier before school with the lights on it there. It was before the sun was up and the lights were great so we would go.We also started to surf in Baja sometimes every week for a while . I knew a place where I could stay I had been shown by a friend we camped their before and aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaI liked it alot. An abandon house 5 feet from a liitle 20 foot cliff falling down was oceanfront overlooking what was great a well known great place to surf I CAAMPED IN A FLAT DIRT AREA UP NEXT ToIT SOME, this HOUSE WAS GREAT WITH A BLOCK WALL IN FRONT MAKING A AREA WITH A BIG ROUND FIRE PIT. a ROD IRON GATE IN Front OF THE DRIVEWAAY i COULD LOCK UP AND PARK MY TRUCK. uSING IT WITH 4X4 HELPING PEOPLE AND FARMERS GET PLACWS WITH STUFF AND PULLING OUT PEOPLE WHO WERE STUCK. plus LOADING UP BOARDS AND FRIENDS VISITING GETTING TO SURF APOTS OFF ROAD 4 WHEEL DRIVE WAS NEEDED. i ALSO BOOKED SOME RIDES IN BOATS FROM Ensenada docks out to fish and surf for the day. The very big waves of Todos Santos Some of thr=e biggest waves I have surfed and I like them big from just after the first year i LESRNED TO SURF. i WAS TAKEN OUT WITH MY UNCLE WHO SURFED A LONG TIME DURING A HISTORIC BIG SWELL i PADDLED MY BIGGER SINGLE FIN OUT QUICK nd well not caught inside and rode some big waves without falling a long ways and over yhe top back to paddle back to the linrup. Not ri[[ing going tricks, but confident riding big waves . After that I bought a small twin fin just as tall as I was and had a place that was a little studio one house behind the oceanfront home of the guy whoowned Vission! I wish I had shown him a Picture I framed and hangs on my wall of my house skateboarding a deep left habd kidney skate pool at an abandon house on top of the hill kind of secret place I skated a lot. No pads or helmet carving around the deep end a;ong the tile up top on a Vision Deck skateboard making a face at my friend rmy DAMM drummer with my moms nice camera we took their that day! Ocasionaly I would see pros like Smitz Stix with Monty Noley taking pictures . I did not see Duane Peters another Punk Rock Musician Pro Skater until I booked him to play A Fri Night I was offered with no experience doing this I had to run alover a Memoriel Day Event 100 band show to get contacts and one of thr bands I liked most. I heard them on Rodney On The Rock One Night In Front Of a Very good looking Girlfriends moms house with her brother Jerry. One Hit Wonder with a song with her name Wendy . Dan Root The Guitar player and vocals is cool I played lead guitar and sang with my bDAMM band on ly Gibson Les Paul (THE PAU:L) in front of my Full Stack 4 12" Jaguar speaker Slant Cabinet on a 4 12" Celestion straight Cab net speakers Marshal uses & the 4slant with the speakers Randall Uses the RG 150 head I had sounded good the beast solid state there is is what Dime Bag fropm Pantera review video said. They do sound the same not warmed up yet and do not loose anything with tube wearing out that can go. I also scores a 6 channeled 350 watt Mixer for my Vocals and to Microphone the band even yhe drums with a non powerd mixer on one of the 6 was good tooo. One `Night we played One thst went huge Right next to PCH On the beach on a wood patio stage. So big I could not see the end of the people. It had grown so big the covered the besch to the water It was great playing for so many and they liked it a lot. Playing songs the band made some I jad done a lot of Lyrics them and I wrote about times we have had A couple of covers we played too like Paranoid by Black Sabath a bit faster and Wild In The Streetsseeing guys run out to the beach with some boards ? Then standing up noses together on fire must have been old. I had learned the solo to play fast and seeing guys come to the front from different directions to the pstio stage to do a little banging theur headsBeing Punk is a good thng not unconfident and not afraid to try things can be great too! Like walking through a nightclub one night Club Rubber at the Galaxy checking out chicks I see a Nectar Blonde with no guys hanging on her I walk up and say Hi MY name is Brian Whats yours she tells you but it does not click MY FRIEND THEN IS A LITTLE HARSH WHAT WAS i DOING ? i SAID JUST WAS TURNED DOWN BY A HOT BLONDE SO NICE AND POLITE WAY YTOO GOOOD TO SAY DONT BE PICKY i WASNT sHEDECLIENED MY DRINK MAYBE SHE WILL REGRET THAT TO ME. tHAR IS pAMELA ANDERSON I was surprised to hear that but glanced over my shoulder and WOW WTF ut wasAnother yimr taken to a great show amd backstsge sfter yhey played the singer said There must be somplace going onbetter than this around here. All I saw was Shrugged shoulders and knew someplace good near to suggestI stepped to him ans said Lemmy I have a sugggestion Whats That he saidI told him Its a place close to here I like alot,It is a good size bar a couple pool tables the drinks are noy bad and the music can be good. The best part is the girls do not push to hard for your money. His face hearing that looked like he was wondering what I ment by that I continued like similar places like this do. After dancing topless up on the stage! He smiled & said firmly SOUNDS GOOD LETS GOmany did and I walked in with him Iasked him what he wanted to drink I was buying this round he said Bourbon & Coke I said Jack he said no jacks whiskey i bought him that and Jack too for me and sat at a table and talked for an hour or so like friends he said I was smart it was nicr tzalking to someone that knows whats really going on That was great to hear comming from him I had to tell him something i thought I said I knoe Motorhead is considrted HARD ROCK and Metal by many for good reason although I am what I consider myself a Surf Punk and IMotor heAD HAS A GOOD PUNK SOUND TOO. tHE GOOD pUNK rOCK pLAYED GOOD ANT TIGHT YOU CAN UNDERSTAND THE LYRICS THAT ARE SUNG, hE SMILED AND NODDED YES WITH HIS HEAD AGREEING AND HAPPY TO HEAR WHAT I HAD JUST SAID!I will never forget speaking with him that night Hope he is in thr better place when we go>tricksbut

That’s a cool statement by Henry Rollins & his thoughts on the Canadian Punk Band D.O.A.. With myself being Canadian I listened to a lot of D.O.A. - Dayglo Abortions ~ GOB Etc. Cretin of Dayglo Abortions is a true die hard take no prisoners type of attitude. I had the opportunity to see Dayglo Abortions & GOB in London,Ontario,Canada at the old,”Embassy Hotel” which is a dump of a bar, but I think every band such as hard~core, metal, punk etc have all played in dive bar venues but sometimes those are the best shows because your up close & personal & you get that connection with the band a lot more rather than if your at a KISS,Ozzy or SLaYeR gig at an arena show way up high in the arena & the band playing looks like rats running around on stage!! LOL 😂 🤘

Canadian punk in 70' was very stong. Toronto in 1977 along with London and NY had stronges punk scene in world.

I doubt that, Canada is a boonies country with a tiny population. We had some great musicians but we're hardly a world force in the expressive arts.
The USA and the UK were the world's hotspots in just about any kind of rock music, not Canada (but some of us were very good at it.)

@@devilsoffspring5519Canada is far behind the US and UK but if you think about it Canada is probably third in the world for producing rock (and punk, metal etc.) music. Australia is number four mind you they have AC/DC and Canada never produced a legendary band like that.

If the police, church groups, white supremacists etc. etc. etc. didn't give Henry a hard time, he wouldn't be able to talk about it in interviews... So at this age he should be grateful to them for giving him a story to tell :)

Blasts Ronald Reagan, yet uses the terms secondary and tertiary markets in order to describe the majority of his audience. Hilarious.

Wow now I am in black flag and I am living on 1 dollar a day sleeping on peoples floors and in shitty old vans. The broke ass life of music unless you were a pretty boy on your k ess servicing dirty old man in the bussisnes. Just look how quickly they turned punk in to green day blink 123 the did it even quicker to the rap and hip hop music scene I think in rap now you need tattoos and to take it in the e latter word to get a deal they even went so far as to make them mumble so they make no sense at all. The music bussisness is just that a bussisness which means buy low sell high and who cares what is inside as long as it sells.
Record company's have a.i. programs putting out computer music and kids are either to conformed and controlled or to wild and stupid to make any sense so they are of not threat. It is over
