Yeah, I find this odd. Vegas is closer to LA, but I sorta doubt they actually went to Reno to film. If they did, I surmise they were encouraged by the Reno Visitors Bureau.
And Stead had its own air base until 1966. Just the Stead Air Force Base which is pretty boring for a script name. Maybe it shut down just before production wrap and had to re-record the lines to be Nellis?

For the record Nellis air force base extends all the way from Las Vegas to area 51,then Reno is at least 250-350 miles to reno
