Excellent repair job, repainting fell a little short, needed some shadowing and highlighting too really make them pop. All and all, a really good restoring.

I have a 46 year old 24 piece nativity set that has several pieces broken. It was made by residents in a mental hospital where i worked in 1978. I was moving due to my husband's promotion. The residents knew how much i appreciated their craft so when I left there, the nativity set was given to me as a going away gift. I have treasured it ever since. It was kept boxed
except at Christmas every year. All my family knew to never touch it. If it got broken, i wanted to be the one to accept that responsibility. My family knew how much it meant to me. This year, my husband of 60 years backed his motorized scooter into the buffet when the set was being displayed and he caused it to fall off the buffet and some of the pieces hit the laminated floor and broke. Some pieces crumbled and cannot be reattached. How do I fix the other broken pieces? Joseph lost a hand, A Shepherd lost his nose. A donkey and a cow lost an ear. One king lost his head. I'm not sure it can be fixed because it is made out of a chalky substance and I have no idea where to start. Do I try to get it fixed or should I just throw the broken pieces away? You are the only video I have seen attempting to fix a nativity set. My set is much smaller that the one you are working on in this video. My tallest piece is about 8" tall. I'd appreciate your advice. Thank you. Where can I find Apoxie Sculpt?

The best thing I would recommend is to watch a few short videos on the Brushworks Statue Restoration and Repair RUclips Channel. I learnt everything from them. I got the Apoxie sculpt on amazon. Best of luck!

I remember these crappy plaster pieces when they were new in the '60s and '70s.
They often looked like they do here, when they were new. Dull colors, chips, mold and seam lines
    Ugh.
    They were really poor quality.
A lot of them came unpainted.
Was a fun Christmas craft for the kids apparently.
Still see them in thrift stores occasionally.

Good repair but the paint is a no for me, the figures look with basic and flat colors. The original colors were beautiful, the Virgin Mary's face looked delicate and her expression was soft but with the new paint everyone looked as if they were all suffering.

You could have put in some shading and coloring around the eyes...just throughout the faces, the drapery, etc. Sorry to say, but they look like blank doll faces...no sensitivity, nothing.

You've actually destroyed this beautiful nativity set. The original colors were so much better, they look more lively and valuable, that's the beauty of antiqueness and you've ruined it. The new colors are too vibrant and lack different hues and shadings, making them look so cheap, that it's more like a primary student project. As someone who loves vintage Catholic sculptures, this makes me sad
