For those who want to learn Rust, "Learn Rust in a Month of Lunches" is a really good book, even if you have no prior programming experience. Covers everything that is essential, including macros, async, and common crates. You'll be immediately ready to make applets and applications.
Learn rust as first language have no sense you'll never understand why rust is built that way and why is needed, is better to start with C (I don't like the idea of learning C++ as first also but is better than nothing)
@@reiniermoreno1653 Nonsense. Rust was the first programming language that the author of the book learned. I also learned Rust long before learning C or C++. You don't need to know them to understand the benefits that Rust provides. The Rust compiler already does a good job of explaining that itself. I don't have to give myself a third degree burn and start an apartment fire to know that playing with fire is not wise. Likewise, people shouldn't have to get frustrated with segfaults and corruption before they learn Rust. Most people give up programming altogether when their first experience with programming is that. Learning Rust before C and C++ is a much better path because the rules of Rust are best practices in other languages. The only people who struggle with Rust are those who have to unlearn bad practices that they've brown accustomed to using in C/C++.
In the end, it looks like the Chrome OS panel. That's not a demerit, as it looks great (and is definitely more functional than the existing one, by the way).
Pop!_OS is set to use COSMIC by default. There is no point in building two different versions of COSMIC when the Wayland compositor will be superior in every way.
How's text rendering in cosmic? Ever since gnome migrated their entire fleet to GTK 4 it has become utterly unbearable to read text on a 1080p 15 inch screen because it's so damn blurry
I like the dock tho. But your config doesn't look too bad either. I wish Cosmic integrated a global menu to make full use of the top panel like Unity used to. seems like a missed opportunity
This would require a global menu Wayland protocol, which is only in the draft stages right now. It could be done in the future, but it's not necessary for V1.
editing the panel directly is a planned feature for a post-alpha release iirc you're asking way too much from an alpha version. "even X can do it" doesn't matter if X has been around for over 20 years and you've barely existed for 2 years (most of which just a low level experimental code base)
@@mii_beta ???? I was using X as a generic variable for comparing, ik u used plasma in the video. Also ur second point is pointless? what does that even matter? sure it's outdated or whatever, but u complained saying it has xyz feature and I was just saying that you're being too harsh on an pre alpha

didnt expect that, but it was actually a very good recommendation!!

Dang Cosmic desktop looking good.
"killing your time insted of killing others'' 👌👏👏👏
You get what you ask for 🤷♂
When I saw the screenshot in the blog, i knew what my desktop will look after cosmic release.
Okay so we been on mii beta for a while now.... When do we get Mii full release?
I love it, it looks very similar to Manjaro KDE 24.0. A floating docker/taskbar.
Keep it coming ✅
Hi please share your wallpaper
Would be happy for an Edit mode on the panel to arrange applets directly in the Budgie desktop environment.
In the end, it looks like the Chrome OS panel. That's not a demerit, as it looks great (and is definitely more functional than the existing one, by the way).
😍😍😍😍
That applet management looks a hella lot like Budgie lmao.
Mii-chan... light themes are radioactive 😥
Is Pop!_OS set to use Wayland by default, or is it still using Xorg?
Pop!_OS is set to use COSMIC by default. There is no point in building two different versions of COSMIC when the Wayland compositor will be superior in every way.
cosmic will use wayland by default and xwayland for apps that dont support wayland
COSMIC will be Wayland only, no native X11 support (X11 apps can still run through XWayland however).
Handles like xfce
is the voice-over AI gen? What model is this?
Oh my God, share the wallpaper from the video!

fine (for a few months now), but i could say the same for GTK4 :/
@@mii_beta Hmm maybe they improved it a bit with the new GTK4 renderers but i doubt it's as sharp as plasma/GTK3 apps
Is very uncommon to see a non terminal tutorial about linux
How do you get Pop!_OS 24.04?!
cosmic-updater supports update to 24.04, but i think they will release official ISOs soon if you wanna wait

that planned
I care if it still uses gdm,?I don't want to install additional gnome-desktop dependencies
it uses Cosmic-Greeter login, which is looking super cool btw; so no, it doesnt need GDM!
So we're back to default Windows layout from the 90s
Isn't this just Gnome with extra steps?
No
Where do you see these options and features in GNOME?

Gnome 4 looks way better than this, but it is rust so people gonna praise it.
well, people love programming, Rust easily wins :)
Looks better for now, this is a pre-alpha. COSMIC can be better than that.
