This song has been performed live but very very rarely - it is very personal to him and takes him to a place he doesn't like to go. - this is NOT a b-side this is completely unreleased - Travis shared it on myspace for a week or two - someone ripped the audio from there in mp3 format and now you have it here. This version of the song was recorded in 2002 during the very first "Purple" sessions.
I am from the same area Travis is from and I actually ran into him at a gas station ironically enough. It was after the "green lp " and I assume he hadn't gotten so strung out at that point. It was about 3 AM and I was on my way home from work. Walked out of the station and he comes rolling up in a black BMW Boxer. I recognized him immediately and simply told him I loved his stuff and wished him well. He seemed very humble and down to earth at the time. Maybe it was before the dope actually took him all the way down. I know several people who know him from the old neighborhood and I hear he isn't doing so well. Hope he gets peace someday
I seen him in concert 3 times when he was just doing clubs and bars after his fight with addiction. I loved this band when they became popular in the late 90's, and Mr. Meeks is younger than I am. I attended some shows around 2010 at some bars that I haven't heard of, because that is how much I loved this band. I had pictures on Myspace of the concert, where me and my ex husband were able to sit on stage. I obtained a guitar pick at one of the concerts with Days of the New on it. Travis man, your wonderful, and I do watch Intervention. I seen your story. Still go at it , my words of encouragement, because you are a wonderful artist and deserve more credit.
This song saved my life a year off meth and finally chasing my music career I met Travis twice such a beautiful human being regardless of whatever the true fans will always have his back Thanks for taking the time when I was a teenager If you wouldn't have I would of never pursued being a singer/songwriter I actually love all 3 albums but honestly I can't decide weather I like the green or red better hands down two of the greatest rock albums of all time
I really do enjoy this song and I certainly do understand where it came from. Travis wrote this when we lived in Cherokee park neighborhood by the studio. We'd go to the studio everyday and he would record something or write something or both. But he was in the very beginning stages of writing this song around that time. He first played it for me around then. 2001, maybe 2002. And yes, we were doing lots of drugs back then. Not proud of it.
My favorite artist at this point. I've always been a huge fan of days of the new but now that I'm learning to play the first album I've researched him and found he's a very intelligent, complex, and salt of the earth kind of guy. He's seems like he's so friggin smart that he's misunderstood by most people. I dont care what drug he's doing or not doing any at all, I'm guessing he's the same person either way. Drugs do not define a person. There actions do. Who is anybody to tell anyone what they can ingest in there own body? I know I'm not going to tell anyone that, why? Because I'm far from perfect and unless your Jesus Christ himself then you cant either. Judgements are more of a sin than drugs are. I hope he's happy. That's what I hope for yet this interesting, very talented musician idol of mine. I wish to meet this guitar god one day and drink a beer and party for days. Judge me, you sinners. Lol God bless you Travis Meeks, and thanks for the great tunes u have provided for my ears and mind. U are awesome!!!!
I feel like everyone wants to help him but he doesn't have any real friends that care about him. I'd hate to see him turn out like Weiland; a running joke in a death pool. I love him and hope someone cares enough to help him
This is one of the greatest songs I've ever listened to... I already was a DOTN lover, but I incredibly missed this masterpiece since a couple of weeks ago. Cruel, passionate, wonderfully arranged... Overwhelming.
Been clean for a little over 2 years from Meth...this song still hits me...a very dark beautiful song about that pain...still makes me think of those times...
This is my interpretation of the song: as some of you remember Travis made this song when he was on that intervention episode so this was in a time when he was fighting against drug abuse... I feel like he is talking to his former self as a kid.. bc obviously when we are kids we don’t look very far into the future and we don’t know what kind of person we turn into or anything like that. I feel like this is Travis talking to his younger clueless more innocent self.. “little child let’s take a ride now.... I can take you where you want to go.... bc you don’t know the dope road” ..like let me show you where the drugs take you bc you don’t know anything about it.... “this be your journey your main trip “ it makes me feel bad for him
I keep coming back to this song every time I relapse on meth.. was 4 months clean after I got homeless from this shit. And here I am.. I relapsed and I finally got into a housing program back in July. I can’t be homeless again.. I can’t go down this dope road again. But it’s so hard. I just got home from smoking some at a “friends” place and here I am at 4am just trying not to cry while listening to this.. I’m such a fuck up and I’m only 19..
@@_SuperCry_ True thank you so much. Yeah it’s still been an on and off battle. I keep using once a month, but also been using other drugs during that time but usually on the weekends. It’s been bad been thinking about rehab or something.
@@_SuperCry_I feel like it’s just going to keep getting worse. Everyone’s telling me to go to rehab, I think you’re right. I haven’t touched month in over 2 months until tonight. Yeah sure 2 months clean from meth is great. But between those times I do various drugs every weekend or every other weekend depending on if I have time. Usually ecstasy and coke to try and replace the meth cravings. Then Xanax for the comedowns. But now I just crave all drugs. I tried heroin a few months ago and craved it till I did it last month. I’m sorry I’m venting.. I’m just so tired. I know I’m doing it to myself but the cravings make me so angry and irritable. When I made 1 week sober I had my first panic attack in awhile. @diamondholt good for you, hope you sober up soon, cos i also am bi polar and need none of that shit. My buzz is facing reality sober, it's the hard way, but only way for me...
@therdmbf42: No I am Not his keeper. However..i am friends with his wife and sohave it on good authority that he has made the choice himself to stay clean and sober. So i am correct in my information via my conversations with her. The songs he wrote years ago were when he was addicted and chose to not want to get or be clean and sober...his mindset is in a different place these days...a healthy one and a creative one and i know for a fact he is working on songs for Purple.
bianca blogs I agree on everything except for Cantrell, I’d say he’s a better guitar player but Cantrell is a much better song writer and Layne paired w/ Cantrell is a once in a millennium duo
@@Therankinlife totally disagree. Travis plays circles around Jerry; Cantrell inspired me to pick up a guitar - Travis inspired me to explore beyond. Also feel Travis is a superior songwriter - Cantrell is amazing, but Travis to me is in another stratosphere. I’d have told you something contrary to that less than a year ago (before stumbling upon Green, Red and all this amazing unreleased music). Honorable mention for Jerry is “Down in a Hole” - lyrically, absolutely amazing. Yes - Cantrell/Staley vocal duo is unmatched - outstanding stuff. I think I listened to the Unplugged album until the CD melted.

I've been following him for years and been getting as much as i can, but i'm sure i don't have everything. If anyone has any info, PLEASE let me know. It would just mean the world to me. Thank you.
Here is a torrent I posted with a some of those songs and others I've found online
thepiratebay.se/torrent/6288685/Days_of_the_New_B-Sides
Thanks, Man!
Brandon Huerta were you able to download the songs from Pirate Bay? If not I'll post them to Kickass and send you a link
Since i put up that post I've gotten the songs on the list. Thank you very much for responding to my plea for help, though.
Thanks!
Brandon Huerta NOT wanting to be a bother to you, but I cant help it!! Like you Ive always been a HUGE FAN!! Got tickets to see them late 90's in New Orleans , they had to cancel ! Where did you get all of yours from? I tried at first when I seen your post, just to follow what they told you, i havent had much luck! Quite possible bc im trying to through a nook ugh! And not a pc ! I have a brand new laptop sitting here it just Wont connect to the " houses" internet!! For some weird reason! Like the rest of my things that always have unusual or unfortunate outcomes! Lol! I hate when people think im stupid! But anyways , I was just wondering if you went to another place or it was just bc of my device!!!
You know where you are, this song says so.....
Get up!!!! Go back to that place before this!!!!
Not saying you are here for our amusement.....but.....
@philominded I wonder why he couldn't play it?

Love
@diamondholt good for you, hope you sober up soon, cos i also am bi polar and need none of that shit. My buzz is facing reality sober, it's the hard way, but only way for me...
you must have got lucky then the B Sides copy i found didnt have Dope Road on it
@mcCain38 It might just be one of those songs that's too emotional to perform.
@flatbranch1 - well of course he knew the "Dope Man" how else would he get the dope from him lol.
@grizzlyspiglet god bless you!
@Star76ify " great music has little to do with drugs these day's...." Just keep telling yourself that, you might actualy start to believe it.
@mcCain38
Because he never takes requests.
Respond to this video...he is one , but there are plenty of others that you have yet to listen to though
travis is better than all this guys: cobain, vedder, cantrell, morrison.........anybody!
bianca blogs I agree on everything except for Cantrell, I’d say he’s a better guitar player but Cantrell is a much better song writer and Layne paired w/ Cantrell is a once in a millennium duo
