Thanks for watching!
I love this stew, my grandma always made this with frybread, especially on a cold winters evening, coolest
Hope you enjoy!!
Great job on this. I used to get up early and brown the beef along with the onions, carrots and celery, throw it in the crockpot on low with potatoes and veggies and let it cook. When I got home from work it was pure bliss.
My mom used to do that too! Have a great rest of your weekend!
That would be hearty on a cold winter day
We will know soon enough eh? Have a great day and thanks for watching!
Looks good! For a spicy variation try a 28oz can of Rotel Original or Rotel Hot diced tomatoes & Green Chilies in place of the regular tomatoes.
Indeed! Thanks for watching
this is one of my favorite stews i make it for my soup kitchen at church on wed.they just love it great recipe 5 star
Thanks for watching, have a great week!
I've been making this for years my kids love it and I'll be making this today I love mine's with elbows
Sounds good! Have a good one and thanks for watching. I subbed!
Chef John! What a hearty dish! Looks absolutely amazing! This would be great all year, but honestly i see this on a cold winter day. Stay in with some soup and movies!
I am hoping that it will be highly searched in the coming months
instant sub - this guy has a great channel. Reminds me of a great chef I worked with years ago as a waiter....and this recipe, as low-brow as it seems...is freaking awesome.
I appreciate the compliment and the positive comment. Thanks for watching. Have an awesome day!
Great soup, everyone in the family has the flu and this has hit the spot.
Soundsgreat! Hope you all get better soon
I use this recipe every time I make hamburger stew. My family loves it. Thank you :) 🙏🏽
Great to hear! I appreciate you watching! Have a great Christmas!
This turned out awesome, the family loved it!
Thanks for watching
As a diabetic, I can't use flour or corn starch for thickening. I use xanthan gum powder instead. It works very well and does not effect my blood sugar.
sounds good, arrow root powder is a good one too. Only 16 grams of carbs in a cup
My son loves hamburger stew I could not find my original recipe so I went online and guess what your recipe is my original recipe that I got years ago my son loved it thank you so much I'm so glad I found your Channel too and yes I'm a new subscriber!!!
Thanks for watching and subscribing. I appreciate the kind words and am glad this channel could help. Have a great week
I made this and it was wonderful. I did do one thing extra though. I reduced the cornstarch thickener and added dumplings.
That sounds even better. Have a good one!
Of course you are going to use YOUR killer Insane Steak & Chop Seasoning one of my favs! Your stew had me drooling brother and I know it tasted as good as it looked. When the weather starts to cool down, this is the first "fall stew" I will be making. Saved this recipe to my favorites. Great video brother thanks for always sharing your delicious recipes. Hope all is well with you and the new gig. Much Love ~ Sis J
This will be a highly searched video in the coming months. I did get your message and new phone number, just so you don't think I have been avoiding you, just been super busy and hectic. Thanks for watching my culinary sister. Much Love...Brother John

I indeed made this dish and it was totally DELICIOUS!! once again Chef thank you for sharing. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
@@sherrillzachery2545 You as well!!
Great stuff. I like to add some pearl barley. It helps to thicken it up and it tastes so good.
Great idea thanks for watching! Stay safe my friend!
I'm watching this at 7am, I would love to have a big bowl of this stew right now. Looks so good.
I appreciate you watching, have a great rest of your day!
I’m making this stew today for dinner and just stumbled unto your video. I’ve been cooking many years but I learned a few tips that I’m gonna use today! Thanks!
I appreciate you watching, have a great day and stay safe!
I'm actually going to start making my beef stew like this in reference to the hamburger. I could save around $10 by using ground beef from Sam's club. My only recommendation for you to try also. Is using barley. It adds a fantastic flavor, and acts as a thickening agent also. Good old beef barley beef stew.
I had a catering gig last year and went to Sam's club for my supplies, I remember getting told I could only buy 10 pounds at a time due to the run on ground beef because of Covid. Almost got thrown out . Usually a pretty calm dude but that was affecting my livelihood. I love barley as well, love the texture it adds to dishes. Great idea. Thanks for watching, have a great rest of your week
I just made this. Awesome!
Fantastic!
Looks very tasty!..in the UK we call it mince (beef ,lamb,) stew.
I appreciate you watching
I’m cooking this today. This looks so delicious 😋
Enjoy, I appreciate you watching, have a great week!
AWESOME, looks delicious 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you
Very nice!
I make similar stews very often in the wintertime. Will give this recipe a try too :)
Thanks Lars!
About to have this tonite
Enjoy!
I'm your 1000 like, great presentation, soup looks amazing. I have a pot on listening and watching while preparing mine. Appreciate you mentioning Worcestershire sauce, I added it and green beans after I did a time release of instant pot.
Awesome! Thank you!
Ok John. Looks good, for soup! Stew should be eaten with a fork and fresh bread and butter to sop up the gravy.
I appreciate you watching! Have a great rest of your day!
Looks yummy. I make a hamburger veggie soup very similar to your stew but do not add a corn starch slur to it. Add some cornbread on the side and one has a very tasty, hearty winter meal. Thanks for uploading.😄👍
I appreciate you watching, have a great week!
Why the corn starch slurry? You have plenty of starch in the potatoes. Just mash a few pieces of potato and it will thicken up
Great tip, thanks for watching!
This goes a long way for two people. I love this type of comfort food.
I appreciate you watching!
Hello Chef thanks for the shout out. Take a guess what I'm making for supper tonight. Do u think it can be made in a slow cooker as a alternative means of cooking. By the way I have a suggestion for another recipe if you don't mind. How about making a good old fashioned rice pudding . I tried multiple times and it's always a disaster lol so I have to resort to buying cans. I find a lot of the recipes complicated. I need a easy recipe. Maybe you could work it in during your fall episodes. Cheers again and thank you for sharing your knowledge. Cheers
Yes this can be done in a slow cooker. Sorry to say I don't really make or like desserts, so I have never made rice pudding, the closet to making a dessert is opening a box of cake mix...Thanks again for watching and being a fan of the show...keep in touch my friend..let me know if you have some other ideas
Vanilla cooked pudding add raisins as cook pudding an your cooked rice, top vanilla..very flavorful an always turns out .maybe chef has easier way but this is what I taught my daughters compared to my way
Joan Rath thank you gif the suggestion very kind f you cheers
Thank you for this video! I was trying to think of something new to make.
I appreciate you watching, have a great week!
Planning on Making this tomorrow (10/29/21)! its going to be cold and rainy all day here on the east coast so this will hit the spot :)

That sounds awesome. Thanks for watching!
Most excellent my friend
Thanks for watching and have a great weekend
My Momwould add liquid smoke and oregano and Italian seasoning and make fried cornbread to eat with it.
Yum
If yiu don’t have beef paste can you add a few beef bullion cubes
Yessir! Thanks for watching!
SOB!!...Now im starvin and still have 2 hrs of truckin to do before im home..
Thanks for watching. Appreciate what you do!
Chef, how did you pour off the beef fat? I was taught to render the fat, pour it off, then add the base vegs. Otherwise you pour off their sugars/flavors with the fat.
Thanks for watching! There wasn't a lot of fat in this beef. I usually take the fat out after it has cooked then add the seasonings, good point on losing the sugars from the mirepoix, that theory ruins decades of cooking methods.
New to your channel...My Homemade Baking Powder Biscuits would be a Perfect Accompaniment ♥️
Sounds great! Thanks for watching!
This stew is wonderful in a bread bowl.complete meal or French bread
Great in a variety of ways, thanks for watching
I want hamborger stew mm mmm yes yes
Thanks for watching
This works! Sometimes I'll go crazy & add a Tbl. or two of dark soy sauce for a hit of umami ( thx. to ATK for this tip). :)
I mentioned soy sauce in the part where I added the Worcestershire sauce but I edited it out. Yes the savory taste of umanmi
I've made a similar stew... we just call it gravy I usually add fresh garlic and also chopped cauliflower and broccoli
Sounds delish! Thanks for watching!
then it is not hamberger stew
@@monfrig6959, My recipe is made almost exactly like Chef John's. I think the reason ours is called gravy and not stew is because we serve it over mashed potatoes, and yes chopped potatoes are still an ingredient in the recipe. I know that's a lot of carbs, but...lol...no excuses. I also just noticed that in my comment above I said we added fresh garlic, chopped cauliflower and broccoli, but what I had meant to say was mushrooms, not garlic. We add garlic as does Chef John, but the ingredients we sometimes add when we have them are mushrooms cauliflower and broccoli.
@@helenbugsynelson gravy is made meat drippings ...sauce is made from tomatoes and other veggies
Mon Frig , I stand corrected. I’ve made gravy that way many times myself with a rue made with meat drippings and flour as well as broth from deglazing the pan and sometimes some added broth and finished with a bit of cream or wine depending on the kind of gravy it is.
I added cauliflower little green pepper
sounds great
Damn! You take request? I would have gone with Rabbit stew. You work with Lamb? I usually use Baking Soda for thickening. I'll try Corn Starch.
Looks delicious Chef, as always.
We were all out of squirrel here at the house! Thanks for watching buddy
Ah man! I could go for some fried squirrel right about now! Woot!
lol
I have a really good squirrel recipe on my channel works for rabbit and crow as well!
The Ls are silent in the maillard reaction. You should know better than to use cornstarch! It will not reheat the same ever again without adding more when reheated. This is why Chinese food does not reheat well especially soups because they are all corn starch thickened so they have odd little tiny balls in them no matter how hot you get it.
Your right! Thanks for watching
You are a dearheart
why thank you
I like you! I think I will subscribe.
I appreciate that! Have a great holiday!
Nothing says it better then Hamberger in a tube
Thanks for watching
Actually this is the only thing I eat okra in lol 😂
I appreciate you watching! Have a great rest of your week!
The only take away is that your hand gets in front of most of your shots.
Thanks for watching, I finally noticed that in editing one day and have changed my camera angle, I appreciate your candor, stay safe and have a great rest of your week!
You lost me with the music
Thanks for wat.......
Are you married, spoken for, interested in or other ?
I need a cook with no obligations..😁
Thanks for watching, I am currently happily married to my beautiful wife. Have a great day and I hope you find a good cook....
I will never understand why everyone has to make this recipe so complicated.
I appreciate you watching!
It’s sheer mate not shire . Only hobbits live in shires .
Frodo loves Worcestershire sauce. Thanks for watching
No worries
A chef who can't pronounce Maillard? Tsk tsk :P I'll still make the soup, looks really good.
+Polkadot Panties i have heard it pronounced 3 different ways during my life, never questioned it, as long as it's theory and method was correct. And I knew what it meant on the written test. I am glad you pointed it out. I checked on Google, it is apparently it is pronounced "Mayard".
One of the issues with being self taught as well. No teacher. I thought my last name was difficult to pronounce.thanks for pointing it out.
Thanks for watching. Have a
great weekend
@@ChefJohnPolitteItsOnlyFood You are an awesome chef and a great teacher. Thanks for the channel!
