- Kaveh reviews the PERFORMA shoulder rest for violin and viola by Cyrus Creations. Perhaps one of the best shoulder rests out there. Made from Padauk wood, this model is an upgrade from the base model and preferred for lighter weight, comfort and focusing of the tone. Available at Shar Music and Amazon.

Thank you for the review. I've been using the Everest as well but I wanted to try something else.
I bought the Performa today (wood), and it's excellent!
Thank you for your review which was excellent. I entirely agree about how good the wooden Performa is. I have the wooden Performa shoulder rest on the lowest setting and a higher SAS chin rest which works very well for me. The Performa is so comfortable and feels part of the violin. I originally ordered it from Shar Music but they only agreed to export it to the UK after I had ordered it from Paganino in Germany. I liked the Korfker but it was more fiddly to adjust.
Awesome. Thanks for watching.
Amazon sells them through Johnson String Instrument in the USA.
Thanks
I've been using a Pedi Elegante for years, the padding is finally starting to peel so this may be a good time to try something different. My question is, do the Performa feet move at all while you're playing? The only rests that I've used where the feet stay put consistently have been the Wolf Primo and the Pedi Elagante. Thanks for this review! 🎻👍🏾
Do you know how the viola version adjusts to account for the width of different instruments? I've been eyeing it on Shar, but the picture looks like it's showing a fixed sized version. I've used a Wolf Super flexible for many years and it's finally dying so I thought it was a nice time to try something new.
Hi, thank you for the demo, I am also 6' plus tall with a long neck, I am struggling with rationalizing the price of a dolfinos system, have you tried one? I like the idea of the performa and wave combo, I noticed in the video you did kind of hunch your shoulder not much but enough. Also I have a pirastro and one problem with shoulder rests is the space they leave over the chest area making it a problem to hold the violin parallel to the floor do you have any good solutions ? I have put sponge pads to fill that gap! Anyway great videos,
Many thanks,
Larry
I’m a tall boi (6”2’), play violin, and have the plastic version of the performa!!
It is worth the investment, but I eventually settled on the Kredle adjustable chinrest and a cloth under my shirt! The performa works fantastic, feels great, wears slowly, and is low enough for most extended chinrests which will alleviate the majority of neck tension! It is supposed to hug the body of the instrument like the back plate normally would, just slightly raised!! I also recommend checking out Kredle’s advice for HOW to set up the instrument! It gives a lot of great tips on minor adjustments to open up the chest and play more concretely!!
I do highly recommend playing without a shoulder rest though, it might be what ya need homie!
If you were to add the extra long feet which side would you add it on the left side or the right side?
The side to the right as you are holding the violin. Or use 2 high ones. You’ll have to experiment 😊
Can the Performa shoulder rest be used on a 16" viola?
I hope Sharmusic gets an Australian distribution soon.
Are they not able to ship to you?
Kaveh Saidi I couldn’t sign up for an account as it was only for North America. I wanted to ask if they shipped or had a distributor here.
Can you take off the extra pad that comes with the rest after installing it? And then put it back on if you want?
@@KavehSaidi Thank you very much for your response and thank you for the videos!
Do you believe the material of the shoulder rest actually makes any difference on the violin's tone or not?
Yes. It’s subtle but noticeable.
Hi would you also recommend this for broad shoulders?.
Yes.
