Ayubowan and hello!
I started my day with a long list of things to do! When you travel there is probably one day a week or possibly two when you need to get stuff done. Well today is that day. Come tag along and I show you what it's like being a local or a native in the small beach town of Mirissa, Sri Lanka
Mirissa is a stunning coastal town situated along the southern coast of Sri Lanka. It is located approximately 150 kilometers (93 miles) south of Colombo, the capital city of Sri Lanka!
There is no exact number of the population size in Mirissa, Sri Lanka as it mostly suits tourists and most of the locals leave the immediate city when its off season!
Mirissa Beach is renowned for its breathtaking beaches and crystal-clear waters, but today we aren't jumping in the ocean just yet. We have lots to do!
I meet several local vendors and engage in some amazing and unforgettable conversations! The locals of Sri Lanka ( Ceylon ) are so friendly and hospitable! They are so friendly to foreigners and its truly such a special country!
Mirissa is well known for its beaches and whale watching! Between November and April, the waters around Mirissa become a haven for whales, including the majestic blue whales and playful dolphins.
For surf enthusiasts, Mirissa offers several surf breaks suitable for both beginners and experienced surfers. Weligama Bay, which is nearby, is particularly popular for learning to surf due to its gentle and consistent waves.
The true gem of Mirissa is the locals. I found myself many times having some amazing experiences just talking to natives. In this video a Sri Lankan family invites my into their house! it was so cool to experience this!

I realize I was wrong about the king coconut in the beginning. I did return to the lady and corrected my wrongs. I was paying 80-100 Rs right down the street for the previous week. That’s why you see my initial reaction the way it was.
Regardless of the price I always tip the locals and pay double or three times the price.
I apologize for this and take responsibility for being rude about the initial price ❤️🇱🇰❤️

Normally a king coconut costs around Rs.150 in Sri Lanka. And we never call an elder person and any female as " Machan " except same age range guys. BTW interesting video mate.keep vlogging ❤🔥😊👍

So you had a coconut in india last month and it costs you Rs 50 and right away u said it sounds like a good price and in Sri lanka 200 is an outrageous price for you!! So indian rupees 50 is around 203 rupees in Sri lanka.. 🤷♂️🤷♂️FYI

What is the price for a coconut? 🥥 🌴
All trip I’ve been paying 80- 100rupee
No mchan. It depend on the area.some areas dont have kinv coconuts. In those areas it could be 150 or 200. Its not expensive. Reasonable. Local price. Dont bargain from sole vendors in road side they're innocent.even we dont bargains from them. Some time they will say adding 50ruppees like 20cents to to a foreigner.
100 is not even a local price now, I think your homework is too old .
And local vendors reduce their prices without even thinking cause they trying to serve foreigners well because they wants to help countries economy. Sometime they dont think about their own profit.❤
Old times it was like 60 now the local price is fair deal 150 and the price depends on the size the location in some tourist destination those costs much as 300 and in a fancy 5 star hotel 1800

King coconut prices may vary from 100 to 250LKR, it depends on the size and the location. It wasn't a tourist scam.
Don't say "Machan" to elderly as many commenters have commented. Machan=dude. Also we don't use "Machan" to address women. There are some rare instances where we use "Machan" to address women, but better not address like that.
Address elderly as uncle and aunty or don't say anything.

I have seen many comments criticizing you not to bargain the price. In actuality it is because Sri Lankans find it embarrassing and humiliating to bargain anything themselves.People dont like to be judged as being cheap.Thus they expect the same from every foreigner.They dont know as a foreigner you can always get scammed if you do not question the price prior to buying.
In addition to that if you are from the west they expect you to be extremely rich.
So you questioning the price is a contradiction to their expectation.When standards are not met they get angry and disappointed.

Even as a local peoples , 200 is fair price, but it depends on the situation and the place you buy.
In a village youcan get it for even below 50 RS.

Bro king coconut price differs area to area in this country. Someparts you find it easily and could be cheap as 80-120, meanwhile some areas will cost you aroud 150-200 beacuse they add trasport and etc on top of it. Still be happy no one charge you 350rs which happened to even though im a local.

Here lies the crux of the issue at hand. The influx of budget-conscious travelers flocking to Sri Lanka has resulted in an unfavorable situation where the true value of a king coconut is undermined, with prices hovering around a mere 150 rupees. Consider this, if you were to visit a location in the UK or the US, regardless of your origin, how much would you expect to pay for a refreshing glass of juice or a cup of coffee?
Sure a coffee in the US can be $4-5. But that’s not the point.
It’s the principle at hand. The previous week you get a King Coconut every day for 80-100 Rs. Everytime you tip the local vendor double because of how great the price is.
The owner of your guest house recommends you to go to this new vendor and get a king coconut for 100Rs.
You go and she charges you double, of course you will be a little thrown off.
Regardless of the situation I still gave her the 200 Rs. I know the economic situation in Sri Lanka and I’m happy to spend my budget backpack vacation money here.
I’ve had a great time meeting locals. Some who even make me dinner without expecting anything in return. RUclipsrs don’t record everything as it may seem.

In some areas coconuts are not grown and have to be brought from outside to sell and a price is added for transportation and the price varies during the dry season. However, the crafty RUclipsr managed to create a few-minute video talking about the poor trader's honesty.

Hey brother ,do not get me wrong or upset .I am living in Canada over 20yrs and lived in europe over 10 yrs .I traveled many countries .No one barging over food and drink .we can bargain for clothes ,furniture like stuff but not food or drink .Rs 200 is not high price .she might sell 20 coconuts for and make rs200/300.they bring coconuts from other province some time n cost lots of money for transport .if you feel over charge just work away and get from someone else dont barging .you are nice gye .enjoy
