This interview was fantastic! Really enjoyed it. It was great to see two of my faves back together again. I have such a love for those five non-Lorne seasons. I would love to see you interview Mary Gross sometime!
Nice work 👍. So cool to see Gail Matthius because we don’t see her on tv very often. She mentioned “The Shambles” playing in Sherman Oaks, my neighborhood!
You should do an interview with Jean Doumanian, Dick Ebersol and Lorne Michaels. I always wonder how Lorne Michaels felt about the SNL cast members in 1980-1985. Besides Billy Crystal, Harry Shearer, Brian Doyle-Murray and Eddie Murphy, I know that Lorne Michaels knows about Gilbert Gottfried, Joe Piscopo and Jim Belushi.
Your show is incredible! I hope it will welcome every star that ever worked on snl from the writers to actual cast members who made it big to tell tales that were previously untold.
Enjoyed this discussion immensely. We’re all getting old, aren’t we? Thanks for putting it together. Now if you could only track down Ann Risley. I bet you could get Piscopo easy.
I would like to have heard them talk about how they were fired. Denny talked about it a little in her interview. Christine Ebersole mentioned how she was fired unexpectedly during her interview and it sounded like she wanted to talk about it, but the question never came up. Please ask about it next time you do a cast interview. I'd also like to hear what some of the cast members thought about the show "Fridays" as it was their main competition at the time and was getting much better ratings and critical accolades.
Why doesn't Gail Matthius do Comic Con? She voiced Shirley the Loon in "Tiny Toons", Bobby's mom on "Bobby's World", the doll in "Bump in the Night", many characters on SNL.
From what I heard, Matthius is kinda Reclusive. And its difficult to book her at Cons. She doesn't travel that much. She also voiced Baby Smallstar in the Snorks.
A problem with season six was that they tried to make the new stars act like the old cast, instead of just being themselves. Denny very different from Gilda, and they wanted Gail to fit the Jane Curtin mold when she had more in common with Laraine
@@timandrews7739 thank you because he seems to like the gloss it over. Remember that documentary on his life? It completely ignored his time on Saturday Night Live. Not a single mention of it.
Apart from UP ALL NIGHT, I swear, the funniest thing I ever saw Gilbert do was his episodes in the 9th season of NIGHT COURT. With only a few exceptions, the writing on the show went to hell that year, but Gilbert stood out as possibly the FUNNIEST (and arguably most insane) character on there. "The woman-- is a HOOKER!! Hooking-- is against THE LAW! CASE CLOSED!" (How was Christine supposed to argue with THAT??)
Gail is one of the great SNL deep cut cast members. It’s a real shame that she didn’t make the Ebersol cast because she easily could have been a solid and reliable Jane Curtin-type player during the Eddie and Joe years.
It is an overrated argument to say that Season 6 was the worst in SNL history. Denny, Gail and others from that year were as talented as any from the past 50 years, they were the victims of bad timing. Btw Season 6 had the best theme song!
That terrible 6th season had the following cast members: Eddie, Denny Dillon, Gilbert, and Charles Rockett. All had long hollywood careers. Joe decided to stop being in hollywood for some reason.
Get them to the 50th! They absolutely deserve to be there! What a loss for the show that these two didn’t stay on longer.
Like Gilbert and so many other one season cast members, they're bricks in the wall of SNL history.
They weren't funny
@@raymondsolisjr.1262 Matthius moved to L.A. in 1981. And went on to both Create "Valley Girl" and become a well rounded Voice Actress.

Denny was so fabulous on Dream On, she stole the spotlight on that show! So lovely to see her and Gail now!

Yeah, this absolutely great! Thanks gang!

Doumanian is a pretty spiteful person. She's almost like a Ghost when it comes to interviews. She was Last Interviewed on E! WAY back in 2004.

I love these interviews, especially with this underrated cast members

Jean Doumanian recently turned 88 years old. How did we all get so old?
Denny Dillon was in Sat.Night Fever. How those years fly buy very quickly.
It would be great if you can get Ann Risley, Emily Prager, or Yvonne Hudson on the show.
Gail Matthius is the hottest gray haired lady I’ve ever seen
She's Shirley Loon on Tiny Toon Adventures "Like Totally! Fer Sure!".
This is SOOOOO GOOOOD!
Too bad Gilbert Gottfried is not alive because I would love to hear his takes
He talked about it quite often on his podcast, plus there’s a clip of him talking about SNL on Rogan.

Denny was in one of the best SNL sketches w/ Bill Murray. Bubba's Wash.
I think people were unusually hard on the Season 6 cast. Audiences should have cut them a break.
Wow not even one mention of Eddie Murphy or Joe Piscopo
I think Peter Griffin would approve of this interview!

Charles Rocket wasn't at SNL SNL 15th Anniversary Special and SNL 25th Anniversary Special.
Correct. He ultimately took his own life in 2005.

Season 6 WAS the Worst SNL Season in History. Bar None. But it wasn't the Cast's Fault. It was Jean Domanian's. SHE was the Problem.
@@Tornado1994Agreed...she was in over her head.
@@MichaelM-l8i Especially since Fred Silverman Demoted Al Franken out of Spite.
Denny portrayed Roseanne Barr and Yoko Ono. Have either of these women contacted her after the fact?
What was it like to work with Joe Piscopo?
4:11 "That is ok. Accents are welcomed here." Jon, Gail was making a joke! Why is Jon so robotic? He is like AI.
I recognize Denny Dillon. Gail Matthias-- I can't recognize at all! (You wonder sometimes, how does that happen?)
When I was really little, Denny sacred me a bit. I thought she was hilarious on "Dream On" tho.
She is not nor has ever been classified as a Mutant in the comics.
Lol. What are you talking about?
Wow Gail looks so different I don't blame this cast for the bad season 6 was the writers.
That terrible 6th season had the following cast members: Eddie, Denny Dillon, Gilbert, and Charles Rockett. All had long hollywood careers. Joe decided to stop being in hollywood for some reason.
Not Rocket or Dillon. Godfried of Course. And Obviously Eddie.
