Thanks for recording and producing this video. Other than your camera, I don't see any luxury items. I just won the lotter for a May 29 start from Lyell Canyon. 😁 Arriving a few days early, hoping to get a walkup permit to hike from YV to Lyell. I'm an East Coaster, so I'm planning on arriving a week early to climatize. Happy Holidays and New Year from Central CT! 🎇🎄
I normally pack as minimally as possible. If you saw my JMT thru hike video I even had to redistribute my food per day when I added an extra day to my hike due to snow. Ha! You will love the trail. It was one of the hardest yet most rewarding things I've done. Since you will be hiking fairly early in the season, I would recommend watching my "Hiking the JMT in the snow" video on my channel. Enjoy!
That's great! I always tell people that my JMT hike was far harder than I expected it to be and far more rewarding than I hoped it would be. I hope your time on the trail is amazing! Check out my other JMT videos on my channel. There may be some things there that will be helpful in your planning. Enjoy!
I've had great experiences with my Kifaru supertarp in the three years I've owned it. I love that I can pitch it up high for ventilation or batten down in less than ideal conditions. I keep a sponge or small towel to wipe off condensation when ventilation is minimal. Thanks for the comment!
So many variables depending on snow but the trail is usually pretty open after June. Check with hiker reports on Reddit or other to get up to date info.
I did the hike in July 2019. It was a heavy snow year so it felt like more early season with snow covered passes and deep water crossings. An epic journey!

i like the kifaru supertarp for one person. I have the same shelter/annex with a small stove for hunting trips.
