The golden glove (der goldene Handschuh) is partly really hard to watch, due to it's creepy main character. I really liked it. It is not your typical clean-cut American films heavily focusing on the story and what it creates. The atmosphere is very unpleasant and you get confronted with very disturbed man. Not a popcorn movie like the rest of the list.
Henry: Portrait of a serial killer is such a horrifying watch. It's been years since I saw it, but I can never forget the knot I had in my stomach for most of the movie. My friend and I, after watching it, just turned the tv off and went to do separate things for a while in silence in order to process the movie.
"Jeffrey Dahmer is arguably the sickest serial killer of all time" Albert Fish isn't mainstream like Dahmer, but I'd argue he's the sickest serial killer or the Russian boy scout killer who filmed himself hanging little boys. Not something you ever wanna google. That's what ended my fascination with serial killers. I really wish I can wash that memory from my brain.
Same bro. In my college English class last year, I had to do a report on a serial killer because our class was based around true crime. I was told by my teacher to research Dahmer, and reading what he did to his victims and their bodies make me sick to my stomach. Guy got what was coming to him as far as I’m concerned
What did you expect? Serial killers just to stab someone and call it a day? Of course there's horrible ones. But you know what's scarier? Literally EVERY politican.
Re: Memories of Murder, lead actor Song Kang-ho deserves a mention for his performance as the small-town detective. He's starred in a number of Bong's films. and is one of Korea's best actors.
By like 100 miles. Watchmojo has never upset me like this before!! Again ill say they went with the allstar cast instead of the PERFECT acting Charlie has provided us.
I've read many criticisms of Zac Efron's portrayal of Ted Bundy, how he'd keep facing the camera and smiling, but if you watch any actual footage of Bundy, that is exactly how he was. Bundy was an absolute jerk, but his looks and smarm fooled many people, including the all the women he tortured and murdered. Efron nailed it, much like Mark Harmon did back in the 80's.
That is precisely how I feel; Zac Efron seems suitable when acting as Ted Bundy. Besides the criticism, I have also seen some people praise Efron’s performance in the film because he is able to capture Bundy’s charm and manipulative nature, as well as the disturbing aspects of his personality. Other than people criticizing his acting skills, I think they are also protesting how the film glorifies Bundy and his crimes rather than showing people that he is a violent and dangerous serial killer. People should note that the film was not intended to be a documentary, so it takes a different perspective. I have seen the comparison picture between Efron and Bundy. In my opinion, Efron shares a physical resemblance to Bundy with a similar bone structure and hairstyle, which made his portrayal more convincing. As for his acting skills, I believe that he has experience playing charismatic characters, such as his previous role in “High School Musical,” making him a good fit for portraying Bundy, who was known for his ability to charm and manipulate his victims .Either way, whether or not people believe that Efron’s portrayal of Bundy was accurate will depend on their interpretation and analysis of the film.

Citizen X is brilliant. This was back when HBO was turning out a ton of great movies (Barbarians at the Gate, And the Band Played On, American Splendor, Countdown to Looking Glass, Live From Baghdad, and Doomsday Gun, for example).
Zodiac is the greatest SK movie, I’ve seen that movie millions of times, sorry guys but memories of a murder can’t be 16 , that’s insulting but besides that good job
I saw that in theaters when I was in high school. After my friends told me how boring it was, I made other friends. Yes, you're right. Zodiac is the best.
The Golden Glove is incredible. After I watched it, I wanted to see what others had to say. One review described it as "The first movie I ever smelled." That pretty much sums it up.
You included some great picks - The Frozen Ground and Helter Skelter are a couple of my favorites. But an honorable mention nod to In Cold Blood would have been nice.
Fun fact: Jeremy Renner was initially offered the roll of Dexter for the show of the same name but he turned it down saying that he couldn't play another serial killer again.
It’s funny that the scene you showed from Monster had Scott Wilson in it. Wilson famously played one of the two killers in the movie In Cold Blood, which was based on real events. The book, which was written by Truman Capote, and the movie both have been cited as the beginning of our cultures fascination with true crime.
Monster should be #1 on this list. Not to take away from Zodiac, but Charlize Theron's performance is incredible from start to finish. Not merely the physical transformation, it is how she brings out every element of Aileen Wournos - from the vulnerable to the abominable, she portrays Aileen in her most human qualities as she eventually breaks down entirely to become the titular monster. You can feel a sort of sympathy for her, all the while fully aware of the horrific murders she's comitting.
Aileen Wurounos is said to be America’s first woman serial killer: her life and cases, trial, and death row journey are a deeply fascinatinating study of the intersections between childhood trauma and abuse, promiscuity, androgyny, lesbian lives, poverty, sex work, The State, Florida, etc.
The most recent Dahmer biopic is getting a lot of flack but Evan Peters is 𝘴𝘰𝘰𝘰 good in it! He’ll creep you out but also break your heart at the same time💔
2 is enough to be a serial killer. A serial killer is someone who has more than 1 kill at 2 different times and he most likely killed his brother anyway so ed was definitely a serial killer
Yep, and pretty much every "based on a true story" thriller movie uses him as inspiration, and heavily embellish details. Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a good example.
Henry. The most terrifying movie I've ever seen -- and written and directed by "some guy" who owned a video store, who was hired to make "a horror movie."
Michael Rooker's debut as Henry Lee Lucas in *"Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer"* (1986) is one of the best I've seen in a long time. It looked documentary style and the fact it's based on a real life killer is all the more disturbing. In the UK the film was banned for years until the late 90s.
Ed Gein also had some inspiration towards Texas Chainsaw Massacre. And Zodiac is a masterpiece. Which I'm so thankful for considering I personally find him to be the most fascinating of serial killers.
Citizen X was great, but the USSR government was suppressing the crimes. Zodiac was also great. Curious why there isn't a popular movie about The Nightstalker (Richard Ramirez).
Citizen X was so beautifully edited and acted that my eyes were glued to the screen. I had trouble breathing. Cannot believe that more people haven’t seen it.
This may not qualify but I had nightmares after watching In Cold Blood in 1967. Also, The Assassination of Gianni Versace was chilling. Helter Skelter and The Deliberate Stranger was made so well. They were both made for television. Michael Burke gave a great performance in Ted Bundy.
Even though it was a season of a TV show; I was amazed by the season of "American Crime Story" that focused on the assassination of Gianni Versace. Darren Criss bore a striking resemblance to Andrew Cunanan, Edgar Ramirez and Penélope Cruz were equally impressive as Gianni and Donatella Versace, and Ricky Martin gave a great performance as Antonio D'Amico. It really didn't take much for Penélope Cruz to get into character as Donatella Versace; all she needed was a blonde wig, a tight fitting red dress, and a fake cigarette.
Man, theres a big difference between hard to watch for gore and or brutality - and hard to watch because of the deep emotional/psychological turmoil these killers endure themselves, brought to light by incredible writing/directing/performing. Monster was hard to watch for both many reasons, as many other on this list. Not condoning their actions or glorifying it whatsoever - but it's just fucking sad that some people are wired so broken that it breaks things around them too. God bless.
If this list gets updated then it'll include No man of God... with Luke Kirby as the probably the best and most terrifying performance as Ted Bundy. Truly spectacular
Bundy: An American Icon(2008) and Chicago Massacre: Richard Speck(2007) were great films! Corin Nemic played both Bundy and Richard Speck. He did an amazing job in these portrayals.
@Audiolympian if it's same actor yes. I think they did one of those made for DVD movies about him but they made it like a slasher movie and he was all sinister and such and not like you see him in interviews
“The house that jack built” should be near the top of this list. I’ve seen almost all these films and it’s the best one imo. It’s beyond dark and will mess with your head, but If you can handle it give it a watch.
Before watching this list, I probably listed almost 20 movies about serial killers in my head, BUT like 8 of "my list" appeared on this list. So now I got SO MANY new serial killer movies to watch
too bad The Golden Glove is so low on the list, it was an amazing movie, harsh and thrilling, macabre to almost black comedy degree in places, but amazing

I love Summer Of Sam, an older period piece, but the drama is so real and relevant. Adrian Brody, John Leguizamo and Spike Lee were all brilliant

“To me, the world is nothing but evil, and my own evil just happened to come out because of the circumstances of what I was doing.”

The movie realy is hard to watch sometimes but the book on which that movie is based is much worse!
I am from Hamburg/germany and i know this pub very well. "Zum goldenen Handschuh". The movie is excellent.
@@lucasrosenberg3431Well obviously, books can usually go much deeper in the context where movies can’t do that in such short amount of time.
Corll, chikatilo, bob berdella and Randy Kraft were pretty bad too.
Albert fish hands down of the most grossest killer
What did you expect? Serial killers just to stab someone and call it a day?
Of course there's horrible ones.
But you know what's scarier? Literally EVERY politican.
Re: Memories of Murder, lead actor Song Kang-ho deserves a mention for his performance as the small-town detective. He's starred in a number of Bong's films. and is one of Korea's best actors.
I think that film is in the top three
I personally think 'Memories of Murder' is the best movie about a serial killer
Agree.
true
Zodiac was a good pick. It’s a three hour film that you can honestly watch a hundred times over. Captivating each and every time.
Aileen Wuomos, from victim, prostitute, to serial killer played Charlize Theron and won an Oscar for “Best Actress-Drama” in 2004.
My favorite too!!
As for his acting skills, I believe that he has experience playing charismatic characters, such as his previous role in “High School Musical,” making him a good fit for portraying Bundy, who was known for his ability to charm and manipulate his victims
.Either way, whether or not people believe that Efron’s portrayal of Bundy was accurate will depend on their interpretation and analysis of the film.
Man, Theron's performance in Monster is one of the top 3 performance I have seen in movie/TV.

Zac Efron's performance as Ted Bundy is mesmerizing.
By the way I didn't even know that Ross Lynch played Jeffrey Dahmer and Zac Efron: Ted Bundy. crazy jump from what we knew them for both on Disney
Exactly when I first heard that about them i was like wtf
They both did great jobs!
They both took dark twisted paths from Disney lol
Citizen X is brilliant. This was back when HBO was turning out a ton of great movies (Barbarians at the Gate, And the Band Played On, American Splendor, Countdown to Looking Glass, Live From Baghdad, and Doomsday Gun, for example).
I gotta say, but it’s pretty clear that Citizen X is the best of the bunch. This list is very inaccurate and biased.
So damn good, I have the ltd edt director's cut on Bluray. My personal #1 SK flick.

Monster ain't exactly accurate, unlike Zodiac. Great movie, though.

Whoa, there's a fucking director's cut? Never mind, I'm going to Amazon. Rent is gonna have to wait, lol.
Yup. Zodiac is my ultimate favorite cast, music, everything got me glued to the film.
I am so happy to see Citizen X on the list. A masterpiece in this style of movies and a poignant portrait of the USSR those days.
Charlize absolutely SLAYED her role as Aileen. I mean I couldnt believe it.
The Golden Glove is incredible. After I watched it, I wanted to see what others had to say. One review described it as "The first movie I ever smelled." That pretty much sums it up.
most gruesome movie of all of them
You included some great picks - The Frozen Ground and Helter Skelter are a couple of my favorites. But an honorable mention nod to In Cold Blood would have been nice.
Fun fact: Jeremy Renner was initially offered the roll of Dexter for the show of the same name but he turned it down saying that he couldn't play another serial killer again.
Dexter is more of a vigilante than a serial killer.
@@bazookajoe6133 I mean his is a vigilante in a sense, that's definitely true but he is still very much a serial killer
Charlize Theron's portrayal of Eileen Wuoronos was mesmerizing!
Thanks so much for this! Been looking for some movies based on true crime.
Couldnt have said it better myself.
Its unwatchable, I walked out in 15 minutes, just unbearable unisteresting movie.
He’ll creep you out but also break your heart at the same time💔
Ed Gein was not a serial killer. Only 2 victims, maybe 3 if he killed his brother. He was mostly just a grave robber.
I know on Criminal Minds it actually said 3+, and I also just googled it and it said the FBIs definition of serial is 3 or more. 🤷🏽♀️
There’s were also theories on whether he may of killed unknown hitchhikers during his crime spree but that was never confirmed though
@@devonjones5200 Devon Jones a serial killer is when they 3 more people according to the FBI.
Henry. The most terrifying movie I've ever seen -- and written and directed by "some guy" who owned a video store, who was hired to make "a horror movie."
haha 😄 i love it how metallica james hetfield is the highway cop in that bundy movie 😄
Thank you! Will definitely search about it!
I saw that dog scene from summer of Sam when I was like 9 and I busted out laughing.
Same over here 😂😂😂😂
I love how the dog is still wagging his tail in that scene too
Summer of Sam is a genuinely underrated movie.... Thank you for giving it some props!
Ed Gein also had some inspiration towards Texas Chainsaw Massacre. And Zodiac is a masterpiece. Which I'm so thankful for considering I personally find him to be the most fascinating of serial killers.
Oddly though. He wasn’t a serial killer. He robbed graves and was only known to have killed one
Great video and I enjoyed it and have a blessed day
Hawkeye was Dahmer in 2002. 20 years later Quicksilver is Dahmer. Marvel is everywhere
I would like to see a really good movie about Ramirez. I also want to see a movie about Rodney Alcala (The Dating Game Killer).
Agree..."In Cold Blood" (1967) was a great movie.
It really didn't take much for Penélope Cruz to get into character as Donatella Versace; all she needed was a blonde wig, a tight fitting red dress, and a fake cigarette.
the dog speaking in summer of sam ruined it for me lol XD
From Hell and Zodiac are underrated gems. It was criminal that Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Ruffalo, or Robert Downey Jr. didn’t get Oscar nominated.
I’ll never look at Donna the same way again.
This a good list today!
It's not exactly a movie but the new monster on the Netflix series portraying dahmer Evan page f****** kills it
Man, theres a big difference between hard to watch for gore and or brutality - and hard to watch because of the deep emotional/psychological turmoil these killers endure themselves, brought to light by incredible writing/directing/performing. Monster was hard to watch for both many reasons, as many other on this list.
Not condoning their actions or glorifying it whatsoever - but it's just fucking sad that some people are wired so broken that it breaks things around them too.
God bless.
Zodiac stars Hulk, Iron Man, & Mysterio
Well now I want to watch Iron Man, the Hulk, and Mysterio hunt down the Zodiac Killer

Yes! So much.
Karla is so underrated, although it is biased towards her being a ‘victim’ it still shows how disturbing their crimes were.
Laura Prepon gave a good performance as Karla Homolka.
If this list gets updated then it'll include No man of God... with Luke Kirby as the probably the best and most terrifying performance as Ted Bundy. Truly spectacular
This list was indeed great as heck, many of the movies I havent seen. Nice to catch up! ☑️🍿
Citizen X is one of my favourite movies ever.

Bundy: An American Icon(2008) and Chicago Massacre: Richard Speck(2007) were great films! Corin Nemic played both Bundy and Richard Speck. He did an amazing job in these portrayals.
I think the Night Stalker, Richard Speck and Ed Kemper would also make a fascinating movies as long as they have good production.
