I LOVE EVERYTHING MARVIN GAYE HAS DONE IN MUSIC. However, this song was recorded around he did the album, "What's Going On", but was wasn't included on any album. The last album he was working on before he died was Dream of a Lifetime, of which this song is included. Fast forward to 2019, an album was released called You're the Man, which was supposed to be the follow-up album to What's Going On. However, this song is on the You're the Man album. I love his voice. This song is full of emotion and its haunting but beautiful. Marvin was the MAN...still is! What's Going On is my all time favorite, but this song is the one I play over and over. Toward the end of my playlist, I included a BONUS performance of Marvin Gaye performing What's Going On.
😳😳😳My older Uncle a I were Marvin Gaye officiados and we sung, played and practiced all the songs we would do on stage if we had a chance, but this is a new song to me. I haven't shared it with my Uncle yet. A beautiful song!!😊 Maybe he new of it and didn't tell me...🤔🤔🤔
TheAkinzo1 Marvin was a musical geniu s unbeatable in music watched the spec ial on CNN about Marvin it was incredibl e how this man shaped the world with hi s music.
The ending of this song catches me everytime.. There's something about it. There's a sadness to it and a finality. Makes me think of Marvin's life. Beautiful song but melancholy at the same time.
Dam! His voice is perfect and the instruments sound so precise and clear. Wish I could play. I bet during STAX and MOTOWNS' HEYDAY, guys would jam ,laugh, talk and sing half the night. 👍
I am arab afro american. One of those whom living on the the earth. I am hard man. But the only one made me crying is marvin voice. Album unforable. And this song. See you marvin there at the sky.
this song brings back so many early memories; Im just glad i had a opportunity; to experience these times first hand, you young folks will never know what real singing was all about. it took you somewhere that you couldnt imagine; you trully had to be there.
Have to confess this is my all time fave Marvyn Gaye love song. Ever. Perfect, yep, sheer perfection, bitter sweet though in the hearing knowing that such a great talent was brought to an end far too soon.
This track originally came from the "Dream of a Lifetime" album. "Santified Lady" was hit from that highly underrated LP. Thank you so much for this post. One of the most prolific and prophetic artist of all time. R.I.P. Marvin Pentz Gaye, Jr. 4/2/39-4/1/84
All I can say is I am the female Marvin Gaye, all day everyday! Marvin is my man and I feel every word in every song from every album. He was definitely before his time and I love how he acknowledged his love for God and Jesus but at the same time he was a troubled man and could admit it.... I am the female version of him
You're right! Like you, i feel every word from every album. My album's prefered are "here my dear" with Anna'song, When did i stop...and Praise. and you ?
I love Praise! that makes me cry and dance at the same time. My favorite albums are Here My Dear, What's going on (including the B-side), Lets Get It On (extended version), Sexual Healing, I Want You, and the underrated "In Our Life time". I can literally let any of these albums play with skipping a beat. Plus, the In Our Lifetime album has several Unreleased Extended Mix songs and they are very great songs. Marvin was not done with that album when he died but Motown decided to release the selected songs on the cover, but I've also read in his wife's book that even the unreleased versions were not considered complete by Marvin. I just resonate with his music so much and how he always included love, passion and God in his songs
Thank you for posting, soooo beautiful. I had not heard this until about 3 years ago on a mix compilation and it hooked me instantly. His voice was, is and always will be untouchable.
THIS song..pure spoken word of a MASTER ARIES POET-Romantic, charismatic, sensual! Perrrrfect Vox, Lyrical flow, composition, instrumentation, joyful musical rhythm, (I hear inflections of Valerie Simpson keys)! It is era-less! DESERVES 2019..AIRPLAY! Someone..ANYONE who LOVES/ed this Aries..you're out there..get on it! Progressive, Indie-alternative, Af-Am/Black, College/Univ. stations! Just do it! GIFT THE WORLD! Zho♏👑
For any other artist this would have been a once-in-a-lifetime track, whereas for MG it did not even get a release! I think they overdubbed what sounds like a drum machine - but quite well done.
i agree with you anthony.i just can't get into todays r&b music. i am old school motown all the way. i saw mr marvin gaye 4 times in ny. i still have the tshirts from those concerts! no one can take his place thats for sure! :)
Yes I prefer the musical backing on the LGIO sessions version of the song. Harvey Fuqua and CBS records put way too much superflous crap on top of the original recording in '85. Nice video too!

i still cry at the end of the song the longing in his voice ooohhhh
Me too, this man voice was so sweet, it was an instrument all by itself.

Impeccable
Song hurts in good and hard ways.... But, I love this song with tears
@@cedrichunter9759 Well said. Marvin's voice can reach every soul.
I sense it to..the ending is beautiful, melancholy and final in a way...theres a longing in the ending of the song
TheAkinzo1 Marvin was a musical geniu s unbeatable in music watched the spec ial on CNN about Marvin it was incredibl e how this man shaped the world with hi s music.
The Lyric, rhythm, the timing, the cadence, the voice.
A song supreme!!

This is one the best songs he recorded. Let our song begin to play only the one you really love will understand it.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who liked the way he said symphony at 1:43 - 1:44.
The ending of this song catches me everytime.. There's something about it. There's a sadness to it and a finality. Makes me think of Marvin's life. Beautiful song but melancholy at the same time.
I imagine people listening to this a hundred years from now and going, 'Daaaamn...'
Dam! His voice is perfect and the instruments sound so precise and clear. Wish I could play. I bet during STAX and MOTOWNS' HEYDAY, guys would jam ,laugh, talk and sing half the night. 👍

Appreciate the history of one of favorite songs by the late genius.💜💜💜
I never heard anyone play their instrument as well as James Jamerson play his bass. I just can’t understand how anyone can be that good.
Bigman920 Yeah Jamerson was a once in a lifetime genius like Marvin.

Real music
Marvin Gaye is the greatest male singer of all time (at the very least of the 20th & 21st centuries). Maybe Sam Cooke is 2nd place.

@erika2012vsu The version on the Dream of a Lifetime CD is different..Was more instrument tracks added to the CD version.
Yes I prefer the musical backing on the LGIO sessions version of the song. Harvey Fuqua and CBS records put way too much superflous crap on top of the original recording in '85. Nice video too!
