Another great video! You are the number 1 blogger! More relevant information than anyone else. I wish I would have had time, during ny visit, to see you again!
I love going down there and around the church and all those places hardly see any foreigners. I love it I myself live up in around the inayawa area up towards pardo. I love it
Another nice long walk and talk, thanks Rod that was a new part of downtown for me. Tonight in Mabolo is quite busy with full jeepneys again. I hope you enjoyed your Easter holiday.
From wikipedia: "In the Philippines a pension hotel is somewhat different from pension lodging. A pension hotel is usually not a boarding house, but is a real hotel. A pension hotel provides rooms with no or few amenities. They usually have private bathrooms with showers."
Thanks Brian. Interesting but also one reason I have stopped going to wikipedia for info. Anyone can add or modify info and they often do. One person commented that it has a different tax structure and not able to have a restaurant on site. That makes some sense to me.
Good video Rod. I have never seen it that empty. Sadly, the stores are closed. Ferries are overloaded during holidays and it has led to some great disasters when a ferry goes down with 400 people when it's capacity was ordinarily 200 or so. Take care Rod.
Good update Only time the city is quieter. Saw some areas do stations of the cross with real whippings. Philippines is only place i see Pension houses.
Fuel price here is between 60-70 pesos/liter Brent. I remember living in Phoenix in the 80's and it was reported we had some of the lowest gas prices in the nation. It didn't take long for them to raise the prices just because they could.
From wiktionary: "pension house (plural pension houses) A home for the elderly; an old folks' home. A lodging which is usually less exquisite and thus more affordable than a hotel."
That may have been the original idea but no more Brian. Thanks for your research. One comment stated that they cannot have a restaurant on site and have a different tax structure. Anyone can stay in a pension house is my observation.
I'm planning on coming to the Phillipines for about ten months and renting a townhouse north or south of Cebu .I'll be using it as a base for exploring the Phillipines by motorcycle.I personally I do not like city's because of the noise and camping in the hills of the Philippines appeals to me .
Sounds like an interesting plan Jim. Check with the locals before traveling into the "hinterlands" as there are NPA operating on some islands. NPA is the armed wing of the commies.
Most likely Cebu negro's and the main island. The rest that are a bit dodgy .Moto camping is what I'm interested in but I will make sure it's ok to head off to the hills .thanks for the info on that 👍.
Maayung buntag and kumusta? I heard facebook marketplace is a good starting point to find long term condo rentals in Cebu. Sir is that how you usually find your condos that you have lived in over the years you have resides in Cebu?
I have found 5 of my 6 units by walking into a condo and asking if they had a list of what was available and contact numbers Thomas. Also, through other contacts I had met here. facebook does have a presence here and could work for some.
interesting view of the city. I plan on coming over next February and will be looking for a good cheap but westernized place to stay while I look for a place to live. I do wear a leather band watch and a birthstone ring. that's all the jewelry I wear, so I should be pretty safe from the pick pockets and such. I'd like to live downtown close to all the malls, restaurants, shops, and walking paths. I'm already 73, is good health (so far), and would like some ideas for a 1 bdrm condo at least 50sqm. nothing smaller. If you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. My second pick would be Iloilo. The infrastructure is awesome and a great place to live. I'd like some ideas in that area as well. I don't want to pay over 24000 pesos per month on housing. My budget is 80,000 pesos per month.
ruclips.net/video/kjLHB_vPGLA/видео.html They started "downsizing" about 10 years ago during the "boom" to fit more people in the same space James so 50 sq meters is difficult to find unless you look at older units. The Sentinel is one options just across from IT Park, Cebu City.
My information re Pension house and Hotel is that the Pension House attracts a LOWER TAX rate than a registered hotel I think it refers to local tax and permits.. Also meals are not on the property.. At least that is in my area..
Isnt that Near Junqera street ? when I was still studying I slept at one of the pension house in that area I forgot the name, It had ANTS all over the lamp and I got bitten causing an allergic reaction ! I asked for a refund as I was gonna transfer somewhere else they didnt give my money back ! NEVER AGAIN !!, I know that Pacific Pension house is okay in Jones avenue.
Thanks Eddy. I went without hot water for a couple of days over the holidays with the stores closed as I had a leak at my water heater. Not too bad with cool water but hot is better.
@@AmazingPhilippines1 Rod, I'm not into the instantaneous heaters, I'd have to connect two in series to get it hot enough for me. The wife and I just do the tabo and bucket shower, 3 liters boiling water from the kettle added to 4 gallons of water. I only really miss a hot shower when I have a cold and colds are pretty rare for me here. I might put in the solar water heater here one day when we build.
Amazing how you got that rooster to crow right on cue Rod! I found very few Filipnos to ever tell me "I don't know" Rod. Seems they would rather tell me ANYTHING but those words. IF I asked directions one would point left the next would point right but never "I don't know"! lol Windows no stock sir. My wife would tell me the same thing about Colon St Rod. Many robbers put your camera away!
LOL! I found the rooster crowing right on cue also amazing Don. I have heard the same thing about Thailand that people will give you directions even if they do not know.

Thanks for the walk and talk tour!
Thanks James!
Yes. We made a vlog about it too. Was like a ghost town. Kinda nice . No traffic. But no shopping hehe
You must be in great physical condition to be able to walk so far??? Not easy in April either in the high temps. Enjoyed the video and happy trails...
The 1st 2/3 was relatively easy...and then it became quite steep and challenging Johnny.

Thanks Robert. Yes, overloaded ferries and bangkas often happen during holidays. I have not heard of any sinking this time fortunately.
Good update

I'm in Subic. Very busy during holy week.
Out here in the northern part of the province, our Cebu City relatives joined us for Easter at the beach.
Cool! Glad you were able to share Easter with friends Regina!
Not sure what the fuel price is in PI, but here in Tucson it's climbed back up to $4.25 a gallon. Probably be $5.00 this summer.
It's by the liter but a lot higher there right now..

I did the math and gas is about $4.50 a gallon average. Diesel is the bargain around $4.10 per gallon. Most of my vehicles are diesel.
Gas here in Tucson just went up to $4.49
Ormoc City too! Today, Monday, things getting busy again. Back to school tomorrow.
Thanks Martin! I prefer not to travel on holidays.
Quite day in Cebu City .
Thanks Manuel! Happy Easter!
4:18 that Chinese Ngohiong is superb. You must try it..
Thanks!
Hello and welcome to the Philippines😊
Thanks Anders!

I thought "pension house" is for elderly only, but Rod told me its for everyone.

Everything was closed for Good Friday, blew me away, but Saturday and Sunday was like nothing happened. I'm new here, staying in Marco Polo.
These holiday closings can change a bit every year Carl and be different in different regions.

Explore ILOILO CITY TOO.
Yeah, my girlfriend goes to that grocery store as well. They’re in Cebu it’s reasonable prices.

are those pension houses for retired local people only? or for retired foreigners also?
They are open to anyone Alan.
just the right amount of people for me :)

I think you are correct Jim. Thanks.
Any comments as to those so-called "transient houses ' ?
There is a wide range of "options" here.
Ranges up to Air B&B. My wife bought a "transient house". Former occupants were call center workers crammed in.
The snatchers are around but it is a whole lot better than NYC.
I agree Rick. The bad news about crime and homelessness in the USA weekly is very troubling.
@@AmazingPhilippines1 It's not the same country you left.

Nice to walk around empty streets and clean air. I've never had problems at the Carbon Market... or any market for that matter. 🌴😎

Ants have been an issue in many places I have stayed also and I have went out and bought my own ant spray a couple of times.
I stayed at that hotel, no hot water

Filipinos used landmark if you ask direction.
Probably passed out somewhere fighting a hangover from drinking too much alcohol!!!
LOL!
Maybe the next time you stay at a pension house or hotel you can ask them why it is called a pension house. I have wondered them same thing.
Some one commented that it is a different tax rate and that the pension house doesn't have food on site like a restaurant Tom.
They get you Jwalking.
They close the street down town around 700pm, and have food vendors
LOL! I suppose they will issue me a citation Eddy.
@@AmazingPhilippines1 no jwalking signs posted. They would close the streets down at night time, and the food vendors would set up on the street
Hi was that fella peeing
LOL. It is very common here with few public CRs.
