Liked and subscribed. I love pie and mash and the liquor is a delight. I'll have to watch you enjoying it as not found where I am now. Last I had was a long time ago in Essex, not that great really, no threat to London!
Manzes Peckham was our go to Pie and mash shop and i always asked for burnt pies to be told you mean well done ones LOL lovely people behind the counter always give a warm welcome. I never liked sarsparilla and remembe the stall down East street market well....
Manze's was always good. The only thing that is not authentic is Chili Vinegar, when I was a lad definitely no chili vinegar in any Pie and Mash shop I remember, that's very much a modern thing. We used to go the Pie and Mash Shop in Lambeth Walk, there was also one in The Cut too. Good vid guys.
I love Manze and I remember that stall in East Street market it's all changed down the marker now. Unfortunately, I've subscribed looking forward to the next video
Really enjoyed the video. Went to Manze's on my second trip to London and loved the place. First time I had jellied eels as well. But HOT Sarsaparilla? I never tried that in the UK. Over here in the states Sarsaparilla is more like Birch or Root Beer and is carbonated.
I've been in the Sutton shop a few times. With the "outlaws" as they live 10 minute walk away. My missus loves sarsaparilla, I don't know if she's tried it hot.
Tbh, i prefer Arment's over Manze's but it's still decent 👍I also remember getting hot sarsaparilla down E Street Market on a Sunday in winter lol Nice video - subscribed!
I was born in Camberwell, brought up in Camberwell and Peckham, went to Paragon School just off the Old Kent Road and we sometimes used to go Broomfields the bakers (the Gregg's of its day) on Tower Bridge Road during school dinner times. I prefer Arment's too and as kids we used to go to the one on Westmoreland Road, then on to Walworth Road and cut through Marks and Spencer to 'the Lane' or East Lane/East Street market and have hot sarsaparilla in winter too or cold in summer. We also sometimes after school went to Baldwin's health food shop on the Walworth Road for sarsaparilla too.
I wouldnt say it is upmarket, it is allegedly the oldest Pie & Mash shop in London, but I am sure that there are others that would also claim to be the oldest
@@goodputin4324 I have been to Maureens and it is very good, but I think that what an individual thinks is the best Pie & Mash is really down to personal taste and also where you were brought up can influence your preference as you would normally use the closest shop
Liked the approach subscribed to see your next one but you didt show the food should have showed cutting the pie. Nice character but focus on showing the food. The point is your having the nice pie but you didt share it with the audience. Just cutting one of your two pies in half would have better from a viewers point. Look forward to your next. Especially a cabbies food booth, good luck with the blog.
Never really liked Manzes in Deptford High Street and it wasn’t owned by the same people who own Tower Bridge Road. Also I believe it has now closed down
Food of the gods ? 😂 that’s a bit embarrassing isn’t it ! Bit of flour and low amount of meat and a heap of mash !! No thanks , will give that a miss 😂 but whatever floats your boats boys
@@JamieTheCabby Back in £.s.d. days, Manzies in Walthamstow sold jellied eels, pie, mash and liquor with adams ale. On saturdays, outside on their market stall, huge crowds would stand and watch as you chose your live eels and watched them being chopped up

Nice one guys thank you. Keep them coming, great to know of new places to eat while at work 😋
Thanks mate, really appreciate your support 👍🏻
I had Pie, Mash and liquor for the firdt time in awhile at cockneys, i forgot how much I missed it, its my favourite dish.
I miss it if I go 3 weeks without
Del and Rodney and sometime Trigger would drop in 👍
Did they?
Great video gents, can't wait to see more London eateries!
Thanks Tom, really appreciate your support
I remember it well. My father's shop was two doors away.
Miss me pie an mash. Used to go to the Manzies in Peckham.
Looks amazing. I miss that as i now live in Doncaster
Pie & Mash is always great mate

I used to visit the stall in East Street qujite often when I was younger
I used to go to F.Cooke Pie and mash shop along Broadway market, till it closed down.
That’s one Pie & Mash shop that I never managed to get to, it’s always a shame when London’s traditional eateries close down
Always been chilli vinegar in shops I went to was brought up on mash and liquor when a small kid in the sixties
Love a bit of chilli vinegar

Must agree, I don';t remember Chilli Vinegar when I was a kid either, just good old "non brewed condiment" as it now has to be labelled
Brilliant! More please.
We have lots more planned
My old man used to work in there as a kid, cutting the eels up back in the early 60's
Bit before my time Spencer, but great to hear about people who worked there

We love Pie & Mash in general, totally agree about East Street, used to love the sasparilla stall

She should definitely try it hot
Cooke’s at Shepherd’s Bush was nice

Best ive had is goddards in Greenwich and im east london
Goddards is not my favourite I am afraid, and I have tried most Pie & Mash shops around London
@@JamieTheCabby it's all about opinions mate.
Pie n Mash done decently in a thick fish stock parsley sauce is heaven but best leave the eels to do their thing in the river
My sentiments exactly
@@JamieTheCabby top man

fair enough, mate.@@JamieTheCabby
It says on the wall behind the counter. Shop opened in 1892..😅
It did open in 1892 but in a shop in a different location close by. This one on this video opened in 1902.
My choice in London is the Savoy Grill 😊
Nice
Classic London fare, the seasoned interior, the cabbies ribbing each other, about as authentic a eatery as you can get.
The other old one (apart from your self) is caffe isobella.
Where is that located?

Amazing how all London pie and mash shops claim to be the oldest and best. Grub for the uneducated.
Yes, they all claim to be the oldest
If it's the best food in London i would not live there. Really?
