I Bought My DREAM Truck - Will it Run?

- Ever since I was little, I have wanted this truck. Now this one has been abandoned in the woods for a good while due to being wrecked pretty hard, but has an old MOPAR 360 that someone has done some performance upgrades too. Today we will begin the build of my "Dream Truck" a 1983 Dodge D150 2wd shortbed. Will it run?
That is very impressive I didn’t think it would start please make more videos of progress
More progress to come!
You know it's going to be a good one when there is more topiary and tree surgery than actual spannering. Well done digging that one out!!
Was a lot of work! Thanks for watching
Very clever RUclipsr: I like how you film, what you choose to show or not, what goes at normal speed or faster, your humor, your channel gives me good vibes, dopamine kicks in 🙂
@@My_Op appreciate the positive comment! More content to come. Glad you enjoyed it :)
I hope you know how lucky you are. That your dad is willing to take the time to not only help you. But teach you all this stuff. Not everyone else has that! I didn't! And same with a lot of other people! So I hope you appreciate what he does for you!💯 And let him know that you appreciate it also 💯
I appreciate him greatly. He’s the best and I’m glad we get to spend time doing what we love
Love it buddy
Glad you enjoyed
Great to content like this , looking forward to to seeing many more videos of this truck build
Appreciate it! More to come I hope.
"I don't have a big boy voice" ahahaha! That got me good. :D Looking forward to more from this truck.
Haha! Plan to doing a full build of it hopefully!
Listen bro....... great video!!!! I enjoyed watching every minute of it. Another one saved. You and your dad are funny. Keep the content going
Appreciate the support greatly! Comments like this is what makes me want to keep finding these old rides and trying to improve each video. Thanks for the support. Dad and I will keep producing content as long as y’all keep supporting! Thanks again.
Lovely machine! Great that you save her.
Appreciate it!
Love those mudflaps. Reminds me of my grandfather. I’ve been planning on putting the same ones on my W100 once I get it running.
I have the same ones on my powerstroke
@@RealSteelFabrications you’ve got good taste!
Nice! Cinematography great as usual. The forest wanted to keep that truck! You should have filmed Dad's reaction when he first saw that truck grown in like that--ha.
It sure did. We both saw the truck for the first time together about a year ago. I just finally decided to actually buy it about a week or so ago. He definitely thought it was going to be easier than what it was though lol
Well shot and edited. Lotta potential for a young buck. Keep us updated.
Appreciate it! Hopefully more videos of it to come.
Way to go on the dream truck!!! Straighten her out piece her back together and get her ripping on the road!!! Keep it up!!!👍
That's the plan! Going to have to find a different chassis to use as this one is to far gone though. Didn’t expect it to be this bad
Great save brother them old 360 has some good power
Hopefully this one does!
In high school I had a 1980 d150 short box 4 speed metal flake brown with tan interior. It had a 225 slant six with the single barrel carb.
Not a day goes by that I don’t miss that old bastard. Didn’t know what I had when I had it.
Would have been a sweetheart with a 318 swapped in it.
@@stephengordon576 pretty sweet! They’re becoming harder and harder to find
You just can't beat old carbureted engines!!
Seems like they just want to run!
With today’s gas and the availability of getting a good carb to rebuild carburetors ain’t worth a fiddlers fk.
Long way to go. Truck and your thought process. No judgement just offering constructive criticism. Glad u love the oldies.
Appreciate it. It’s a weird starting point but these bed is all I really needed and the motor with some mods is a plus.
I’m looking forward to seeing more of this project! I absolutely love this generation swb dodge truck I have an 84 swb extended cab 2wd with 57000 original miles 318 it was my grandfathers Sunday go to church rig.
That’s awesome! I love these trucks as well. Yours sounds nice. The brown Dodge we were using to pull this one out was my great grandpas going to church rig believe it or not! I’ve been using it for truck purposes maybe a little too much….
@@RealSteelFabrications I look forward to seeing your videos brother and I believe that if this becomes a series you’ll hopefully get more traffic on your channel. Keep up the good work and much luck on getting your dream truck like you want it. We all have to start somewhere and you have a great platform to make it happen.
@@brandonlisenby6752appreciate it greatly. Lot of work to do, but it can be done.
Nice save, surprised you could even find that thing lol unless it was listed for sale or you lived in the neighborhood.
Dad and I went there about a year ago and looked at a different truck. Just finally pulled the trigger and bought this one though. Crazy how much the woods grew around it.
From someone who does this same thing, SLOW DOWN. All the jumping and running around you're doing, causes nothing but damage. Yeah, it's a wreck. But think about if you were trying to load a spotless truck. You wouldn't snatch on it and tear metal. It had to be pulled, true. But framed being tweeked like that, it would've literally ripped that corner off. Seeing a tree growing out and thru the bent parts says you don't just snatch anything. If one grew that way, it's possible it could've grown another shoot. Take your time and think before you do anything. Study everything. Check, double check, and then triple check all of it. Yanking from a trailer, like that, you could bend the whole trailer. A little thought before hand, says youll get it faster if you just look at the problems. Im not saying you didn't look. I'm saying youth and inexperience will make any future projects way, way more expensive. Before you blow off 30+ yrs of hard learned experience, I'm an engine builder that built door slammer cars. For the most part, I did a lot of damage to vehicles when I was learning that cost me time, AND MONEY, I didn't have then.
My dad had a Dodge like that while we were growing up, I loved that old truck, nice save can’t wait to see what you do with it! You got a new subscriber
Very cool! Ready to get the build started.
@@RealSteelFabrications can’t wait to see it!!!
Great Rescue Mates Thankyou for Content . Looking forward to its Destination
Our pleasure!
No one can ever say your videos are fake. I'm not an arborist or biologist but those trees tell the story.
lol. People have tried saying our videos are staged in the past. Ain’t no one got time to fake stuff! We just enjoy working on junk
I live in new mexico have a buddy that has 40+acers of old mopars cars trucks and random old iron ! Thats where i got my 2 1st gen cummins my 4bt cummins my 78 and 82 4x4 dodges... if need any old dodge stuff let me kno!!!!👍
Wish we were closer! Missouri to New Mexico is quite the haul. Maybe someday we can make it out tho!
@@RealSteelFabrications nothen but a 12 hour adventure
Your great effort will be rewarded 10 fold
Hope so
Sounds like she's got a cam in her 👌
Not really for sure!
What real piece of drem truck you got man.
I believe that is an old Ford carburetor. The 360 debuted in 1971, and was used until 1989 in the LA platform, the magnum 360 then replaced it until the early 2000's. The magnum would be an upgrade since they are roller engines, and they do make conversion intakes...unless this is a built 360, which is also a possibility seeing the setup. There should be a date code on the block. To be on the safe side, I would tear it down to the frame to see how tweaked it may be. Great video, can't wait to see where it goes. Thanks for sharing.
I appreciate it! I didn’t realize the 360 didn’t come out until 1971. What years had the blue blocks? Also, how will the date on the block read? Same numbers that tell you it’s a 360? We were originally hoping to use this frame but seeing how bad it is, we are going to go a different route.
@@RealSteelFabrications The first 3 numbers of the serial number indicate the date. You can find the serial on the opposite side of the block of the engine size stamp. There is a Date code sheet you can refer to; I will email it to you. All 360 LA blocks were blue. The magnum 360's were black. The 360 eventually replaced the 340 which ended its life in 1974.
@@hayneshvac2awesome info. I appreciate it greatly. Will check it out today.
looks like a wcfb carburetor.
Definitely keep those wheels on that truck. Pretty nice wheels. Specially with white letter tires
That's the plan! Will get it back on the road on a budget hopefully
My grandpa had one like this. So badass
Sweet!
Glad to see someone else loving Dodge trucks. Don’t know where you are but I’ve got 5 short bed parts trucks if you need parts. South eastern Illinois is where I’m at.
@@Stovalls in mid Missouri. Do you have a 2wd chassis you would sell?
Thats pretty cool for sitting so long. Sounds like a good strong motor.
I hope so. Curious if anything internal was done to it.
21:51 “😔I have no big boy voice” I’m dying lol
Sure he does lol
It looked like there was some other cool cars and trucks back in them trees too🤔
There’s a few
Awsome save guys
Appreciate it!
Looks like a good ol dodge ram d150
You’re right
Love the truck love old trucks too
Love them too!
The truck sure seemed like it wanted to stay right where it was.
It'll be interesting trying to get that frame sorted out, but I suppose shortbox trucks of that era aren't too easy to come by. Have to wonder what other goodies that engine has on it.
@@JunkyardFox403 we were originally hoping to use this frame but it’s to bad unfortunately so to the drawing boards we go. Maybe shorten a long bed chassis…. I’m with you and want to know if anything internally was done to the motor.
@@RealSteelFabrications I thought the same thing. Use the donor long box frame, but shorten it.
Awesome job love to see more
More to come!
That is one stove up dodge. I'll give you an A for persistence. Looking at the gap between the bed and the cab, you're gonna be paying your local frame guy for three days work.
We have several other parts trucks so no frame guy needed 👍
@@rcone4u1 I touched on that in another comment. I made this comment before I finished the video. My dad had a short box d150 2wd stick when I was a kid. Can't wait to see what you'll do with this one.
Ya the frame is a loss cause. We will be using the longbed parts truck chassis most likely
Can't wait to see the video on how to unlock those back wheels I have the same problem on my 73 Delta 88 Oldsmobile Convertible.
We did it in this video
Getter done good luck !
Thanks!
Sounds good motor is good good luck😅
Thanks 👍 lot of work to do
Awesome!! Ready to see what you'll do with it!! If the frame is too out of whack, have you considered cutting down the long beds frame and using the motor and bed from the short bed on it?
Ya, that’s the plan currently unless I run across a shortbed chassis for cheap.
@RealSteelFabrications sweet, will be an awesome build regardless, I always liked those dodge trucks. I found one years ago that was a short bed with the 6 cylinder for 500 dollars. Was sitting in a field and ended up not buying it. I wished I would have now!!
@@viper08man ya, $500 would have been a deal
Crazy that tire looks like it's brand new! Stupid Firestone tires that are on my Chrysler 2 years old they are cracked beyond belief! Just goes to show you they're not making them like they used to!
They don’t look to bad!

Thanks for the support!
Under drivers side manifold/header. 340 that’s awesome
It’s actually a 360 with a 340 intake which is interesting.
Sharpen that gatdamn saw!
Will do. It wasn’t really that dull tho. Dull blade is an unsafe blade though
Dude, I have one of those trucks that is straight as a pin with a clean title. I live in Northern California but this thing will only need a driveline stuck in it. Let me know if you’re interested because I’m not doing anything with it. The interior is not ripped and even has a cap on the bed. Seriously, no body work required.
I wish man, but I’m just way to far away
@@RealSteelFabrications You should know that shipping this thing will be worth it. It’s completely rust free. I restored my 1972 Power Wagon stepside from a junk plow truck to a solid unit so believe me when I say this thing is unbelievably clean. If you want a video, send me an address.
There should be a sticker on the door that might tell you and also upfront somewhere that should be a sticker but you can look at the serial numbers and re-circuit online but it looks like a 318
Turns out it has a 360
I just restored my childhood d150 83 slant six 4 speed very expensive but worth it 👌.....fyi these trucks come factory with hurst shifters however the one in that long bed is aftermarket last thing that factory shift boot is worth a little money if in good condition lmc is now making aftermarket boots but they are not as good as oem
Awesome. Feel free to share your truck on our Facebook group (same as the RUclips channel name). The boots in fairly good shape. I didn’t realize they came factory, appreciate the info!
Shooot some seat covers and a good buff out and you're there, son.😅
Need a new chassis lol
All I can think of is a homemade power wagon, sleeper.
Power wagons are 4x4

Get some stout trees. Chain chassis and use. Porta power to straighten
I wish, but to far gone
The engine has the size and year cast into the block right above the starter
Correct. Found the 360 on the side
Awesome Dodge, way cool aftermarket parts and ive never seen a tree grow through a truck suspension like that...ive seen them straight through but not like those ones😂
It was ridiculous! I’m guess the truck was back in there when the tree was a small sapling and wrapped around the suspension like that
@RealSteelFabrications looking forward to more content...your dad is always so happy 😂
Nice

You would think the owner of the property would be out there helping!
Lotta of hard work! Luckily dad was able to help

@@kodakhrome3754haha, you’re so right
You should find one of your old drawings and show it once the trucks built
Will do. If I can’t find any, I’ll do a new rendering

Kinda of a Rare Truck being Black looks like maybe it had red interior be a nice Truck.

It’s actually a very dark blue. I thought it was black at first as well.
1989 dodge ram first gen
The body wants replacement on front after it could be ok
We will see what we can do
Shorten the frame on the long. Must be easier than fixing the short bed
That’s the plan unless we find a shortbed chassis at a decent price
You've Done Well, Sir!!!
Keep up the Good Work! 👍😁👍😁👍
Thanks, will do!
Great video man cool truck your ratty10

Buried treasure. At least there are a lot of good parts on it to use. It might run better with a different carb on it.

It's a chainsaw, not a Hand saw get some safety gear on,. Have a Merry Christmas.
take your parts truck frame and shorten it put your motor in it and bed
That’s what I’m thinking! Will probably use the cab as well as the parts truck cab is actually in worst shape. The roof line is rusted away.
need to sharpen the chain.
Maybe a little
Dream truck? More like nightmare truck. I guess u got to start someplace!
lol. Not the condition I imagined getting one in lol
Look like a ramcharger
Front ends are identical
You can tell the difference between a 318 and a 360 by the size of the front main bearing seal., the front main snouts are large on a 318 and a 340, small on a 360.
Thanks for the info
Your Dad must really, really love you or love old Dodges like I do. Kudos to him!😂

Why did you get yourself into this mess , because you love this fricking truck since you were a kid lol
Correct lol. It was soooo much work though. More than I expected
In the future, if you're going to try to turn on look at that fly wheel. Now you could put a Pat ranch on the Mat and turn the flower rather than using the boat in the crank. Last chance of snapping that chronicle. I'm glad for you. Son that you got the truck. He won't, but I'm gonna be around swinging. As you get older, you're understanding that the short bed. Trucks are not good for looks. The ride rough and you can't hold s*** on.
