    Cool to see the way you search for the different species! I like how you also are respectful/mindful of not keeping them too long/keeping them out of the sun. You did a great job highlighting some of the reptiles that often get overlooked. Great photos as well!

    I love the rain frogs. They are so darn cute! Lil potatoes 🥔. What do they eat and drink? It looks so dry there. I wonder how they are making out in this hot weather that the planet has had lately 🤔 I hope all the little critters you showed are going to be okay. Anyways, I just found your channel and subscribed. I'm looking forward to seeing more. Take care 🙂

      Thanks for watching! They feed on small insects, typically hiding under rocks and sand where it remains relatively damp.

    Very nice finds. I was told that Namaqualand has no frogs at all. Is it only this species of rain frog? To me the rain frogs look more like happy little blobs and quite helpless on land, not this angry meme that has been distributed everywhere. Does the trash impact the tortoises? I mean they are trying to chew and swallow everything, most probably they eat things they shouldn’t there. And how cold were you speaking of? If tortoises are active, it must not be very cold in the day. Scelotes I always look quite metallic, whereas other skinks are more earthy. Also, what do you mean by mole hill? Do you have actual golden moles there? I know that they are very unique and ancient mammals and I would like to see them.

    • @TyronePingHerpingSouthAfrica
      @TyronePingHerpingSouthAfrica  2 года назад +2

      Namaqualand certainly isn’t not rich I. Amphibians but there are several species to be found.
      The morning it was cold being winter probably 14 degrees Celsius but as the sun comes higher it warms quickly.
      The moles are usually cape mole rats they make the sand mounds from their burrows where the Scelotes live.

      @@TyronePingHerpingSouthAfrica okay, so they are true rodents and not insectivorous moles. 14° could be fall in my region. Still a lot of reptiles come out if it is 14 only in the morning.

      you’d be amazed how many you find when you’re actually looking for them. i had never seen any frogs around my house without going out of my way, but tonight i did some herping around my abandoned pool and found 5 different species amounting to hundreds of frogs. really cool!

  • @wrmlm37
    @wrmlm37 6 месяцев назад

    Oh no, thousands of wealthy kids want them! Cripes, people do not "get" how hard it is to maintain them properly. Like the turtles from the 70's, they will be discarded, or killed through overeager parents wanting to appease, but not TEACH their children:( please do not buy these little cuties. You don't have the time, and your kid doesn't have the interest)..that is exactly how I adopted Clemmy...$5k and 12 years later she is dinner plate sized and can NEVER be released as red-eared sliders will kill all the spotted and box turtles they come across. Yes, I could have gotten off cheaper, but 2k was an aquarium with built-in haul out, 600 for a filter to clean massive amounts of water, oh, and $700 for a herp-trained vet, when I LET her get sick...

      Good thing they're illegal to keep here locally and illegal to export but unfortunately few to get smuggled out.
