I wouldn’t worry too much about Iowa - the whole point was to find a candidate for the Repubs, and Tangface was always going to be the frontrunner. Every other person there were just jockeying for position in the warm comfort of his colon.
Used to be when I heard a Trumper babbling on parroting some nonsense they obviously heard on Fox News or read on Truth Social, I'd get the urge to tell them how absurd they sounded. And whenever I did, I was met with such a state of incredulity, shock, and disdain, as if I'd blasphemed the Almighty, that eventually I realized how useless it was to even try to make contact with a mind that had become so warped that, for them, the facts of life were whatever Donald Trump, with his complete disregard for the truth, said they were.

Baffles me as well...the *only* reason that makes any sense is because he's theoretically a cash cow, and billable hours means a lot to many attorneys (at least those who would take on clients like Drumpf). Representing Trump at all is a damage to an attorneys reputation.
Trump lawyers end up needing to get lawyers and often end up in disbarment or huge financial judgements against them.
What stands out to me is the quality of the lawyers he's left with. If he had a case, lawyers would be lined up around the block offering their services pro bono. Just for the notoriety of representing a former president. And yet there's no one. Because they know he's guilty and he doesn't have a case. He's already finished he just doesn't know it yet.

they really need to make it so when a person loses defamation the penalty amount needs to be paid into a holding account immediately should the defense wish to appeal. If they win on appeal the money is returned if they lose the money is given to the plaintiff straight up in 1 big lump. Most people don't have the money that they are ruled to pay in the first place. I think the issue in this case is Trumps claim about how wealthy he is. In other cases people can submit a list of their assets and debts in order to show what their net worth is, but since it's Trump and he is too dang proud he would never do that in a civil suit as these are normally a matter of public record, even if the only part released is that Trump can only pay XYZ amount.
Giuliani just went through similar where he refused to submit anything about his personal finances to the court during his legal battle and once he was found to owe a LOT of money and the court had made it's ruling he tried bankruptcy, but that only works in the event the issue was not done with malicious intent and both Trump and Giuliani walked out of the courthouse and said the same dang things again. . . . .that's knowingly malicious.
Many people will claim a certain type of Bankruptcy to get out of owing others money in civil matters.

We know a crap case when we see one and then Trump asks the judge if he can speak or even if he can give closing arguments and I hang my head, because I believe past behaviors are good predictors of future behaviors so I have a pretty good idea of what will happen next and it won't be a sincere apology.

He wasn’t attorney on record at this new trial, only in the appeal from the earlier Carroll case & one other, I think the NY case.
Loosing a five million dollar case does not tarnish a lawyer's reputation, per se. What tarnishes it is getting an innocent client convicted and put on death row, or getting a guilty monster off scott free. Then there's the ick factor of representing a generally slimy client, regardless of case outcome.

Does anyone think the retainer check didn't clear?
I think the retainer ran out a long time ago and the retainer refill checks had a post it that said "put in after the 1st of the month" and then Trump said "I meant after the first of next month" for so long it hit 2024 and he realized he was not getting paid.
