It actually helps that it's in English. I usually try to watch foreign media subbed but for something this confusing and with not much dialogue, being able to hear what's being said makes it so much easier to process.

I only have the last two episodes of this series left, which I'm saving for after finals. This trailer gives me chills. Obviously, if you've seen the series, you know it's not as immediately gratifying as the trailer might imply. It can be slow and sometimes even frustrating, but I like the challenge of trying to interpret this abstract thing. When all is said and done, it resonates with me, whether I fully grasp all its symbolism and layered meanings or not. I think the theme of the internet and human connection/disconnection is more relevant today than when this was made. It's kind of ahead of its time.

I’ll admit, as someone who doesn’t even like anime this does look pretty interesting since it reminds of one of those foreign arthouse/indie movies I’m into.
If you're not an anime fan but want to watch one anyway i highly recommend zankyou no terror! It's only 11 episodes long and a pure masterpiece. It's the only anime i would recommend to every person on earth if i could.

I think I prefer the dub. The voices seem intentionally flat and emotionless, which only intensifies the uncomfortable atmosphere that the show tries to convey
@Rando Very fair but I cant speak or understand Japanese without subtitles so the effect is personally lost on me compared to how stark the dull tones of the dub are to me
Hello peeps. I wanna make it clear in case you get mixed up, I have the detailed answer but will keep it short here: =SPOILERS= * Lain is an experimental girl that can interact with both cyber and real world, who is created by the villain. * Villain needs to sacrifice Lain's body to dominate world with her powers. * They mess up with Lain's and her friends memories so much that Earth becomes unbearably distorted place for Lain. * In the end she defeats the villain and erases memories of her from Earth to alter the reality and save Alice, eventually she sacrifices her physical existence as noone remembers her.
Why would her ability to interact with both worlds make it so that she can undo death now, is she a time traveler? I thought the point was of Lain being a self-learning God, having erased her memories prior in order to develop a personality or individuality outside her omniscience.
Actually relating to terms like Schumann resonance and wired connecting the whole earth, the planet itself becomes an entity with each individual like cells of a body after the villain manipulates the wired into the consciousness of lain, she becomes the master of the wired hence taking control over earth as a planet wherever humans are connected to the wired. Villains problem is that she is not harnessing her true potential as she is restrained by her physical form.
I bought this show at a goodwill, and I was avoiding it because I thought it was gonna be super edgey. It was the spur of the moment kind of thing. Like the start of some horror movie. But I'll watch it now. :)
I wanted to ask fans what is good about this series, not as in trying to get people to humor me on why should i watch it, but rather on what are the aspects I should focus the most when watching it
The only reason I watched it in subs was because the streaming site I was using did not provide a translation for the japanese text on the screen. And I'm not talking about Navi I'm talking about those poem shots.
Don Killuminati I've heard parts and pieces of the dub, I actually kind of like the voices, I thought they were OK... but the Japanese track uses reverb to EXCELLENT effect in conveying isolation, the English track tries to do the same, but it just doesn't work nearly as well. For example, a crucial scene that hooked me in episode 2 (the end part with the double suicide) is simply not as impactful in the English dub, because one important reverb on Arisu's "Lain!" that made it seem like she's screaming from far away is fucked up and doesn't have that effect anymore. That is seriously enough of a reason for me to stay with the original Japanese audio and recommend others to do the same. Episode 2's final scenes deserve to be seen the way they were intended to be.
I also want to know! I'm about to watch this series for the first time, and thought I'd check out this trailer. And I really love the background music in this...is it just in the trailer, or is this music actually used in the show too?
