you explained it better than their website you did a great job man
Thanks! Very glad it was helpful for you.
Our RESERVE was delivered yesterday and our first night was very comfortable. I have a few spinal issues and have not slept well in four years. I need a fairly firm mattress for my spine yet a softness on top for pressure points. We've gone through two mattresses in three years. One was top of the line Tempurpedic which did me well for almost a year until my spinal issues become worse requiring a firmer mattress but one to protect pressure points issues due to fibromyalgia. I have to give it a few months to be certain but after sleeping for six hours instead of the usual maximum three....I am feeling pretty confident this will serve me well. They are costly but after considering the price one pays for health wise due to true chronic insomnia, doctor visits, physical therapy, pain medications etc it was well worth it for us.
Hey very glad to hear it! Hope it continues to work out well for you.
Thanks for the explanation! I believe many would also be interested how Kirkland Signature by Stearns & Foster sold at Costco compares to this lineup
An amazing overview! I can’t wait for your take on the new products coming out.
Thank you Beau! Very much appreciated.
Excellent and easy to understand explanation of all the models by Sterns and Foster and has help me make an informed decision on a pricey but justified purchase. Many Thanks!
I’m leaning towards sterns and foster because I want the long lasting tempur material without going full memory foam. Debating between soft pillow top and medium. I’m 210lbs but 6’3 and still skinny. I workout every day and need pressure relief as my arms fall asleep when sleeping on my side. My chiropractor told me to stop sleeping on my stomache as it’s messing up my neck so I need an accommodating mattress for side sleeping and some back sleeping
Hi there -- Are you talking about the Estate versions or the Lux Estate versions? Also, are you talking about the Medium Tight Top or the Medium Pillow Top?
@@goodbed I’m debating between both estate and luxury estate models and only considering pillow top models
Hi there -- This is a bit of a tricky case because it sounds like you have some pretty acute pressure-relief needs when sleeping on your side, and many of the mattresses that will be best in providing that pressure relief can be particularly problematic when sleeping on your stomach (to the extent that you still migrate to that position in your sleep). Of the three you are looking at, I would lean toward the Lux Estate Soft Pillow Top for side sleeping and pressure relief, but for balancing side and stomach sleeping I'd lean toward one of the other two. Here's a comparison of our assessments for those 3 models: www.goodbed.com/mattress-model/stearns-foster-lux-estate-medium-euro-pillow-top/#materials-construction
If you're open to options from other brands, I just used our advanced search tool to look for mattresses that have top quartile spinal alignment for a side/stomach combo sleeper plus top quartile pressure relief (I used 150-200 lb weight range for you, since that data is a bit more applicable in your case), and did find the Casper Wave Hybrid to be a uniquely good option in your case. This mattress is currently being replaced with a new 2024 lineup, so it is also marked down considerably at the moment from the prices we show on our site: www.goodbed.com/mattress-model/casper-wave-hybrid/
I hope that's helpful.
@@goodbed very helpful. Thankyou very much
@@goodbed is the snow max model just as good?
I’m a sleep expert and I just got a lux estate still learning the differences I love this collection !
Hey glad to hear it. Hope the overview here is helpful.
How does it feel so far? Does it sleep HOT?
@@hastensavoir7782 I love it I gott the plush pillow top one I love it me and my partner sleep well I don’t sleep hot the cooking of the mattress I give it a 7 but the sheets you use play a part as well it very comfortable and I love the edge support
Good review, thanks
Thanks for letting us know it was helpful for you, Helena!
Thanks for the review. I am 115 lbs side sleeper. While i need exceptional pressure relief, i am super sensitive to spinal mis alignment. Do the pillow tops make a light weight person sink more to cause spinal misalignment? I am debating among the estate soft tight top, estate soft pillow top (since you said both are medium feel), the lux estate soft tight top and lux estate medium tight top. Which would be your recommendation for me? I am also a fairly hot sleeper. Appreciate your response!
With the Reserve Duet can you buy the topper on it's own if your old one wore down? If so how much is it?
Thank you ~ looking into the Studio...leary of foam.
Love his reviews he’s always so thorough 👍🏽.
Hope Beautyrest Black new models are next 🙏🏽‼️
We do indeed have some Beautyrest models coming up in the near future! Thanks so much for your kind words. 🙏
Looking at S&F Reserve or Spink & Co. Leeds? Any advice on which one to get? I have lower back issues.
Amazing, amazing review! I was in the process of purchasing the Studio Medium but after watching this, I went back and tried the Estate Soft (which you classified as a medium feel). I would have never looked at it because if it being labeled Soft. The Estate Soft is the clear winner to me! Thanks again!!
Our pleasure Nicolle! So glad to hear this was helpful for you. Thank you for letting us know!
How is your mattress, are you happy with it?
I’m trying to decide which mattress might be best for my needs. I was looking at the lux estate pillowtop medium, lux estate hybrid medium or lux estate reserve medium tight top or medium pillowtop. I’m female 5’8” 140. I have arthritis in my hips and sleep in all positions. Trying to find something pressure relieving for my hips and supportive enough for my back is so tricky. I wasn’t sure if the reserve would be a good option because of micro coils. I was thinking maybe would give me more support for back while still being pressure relieving. I realize all these also have very thick foam layers so not sure I’m on the right path. I also considered purples rejuvenate premier and would be open to that as well.
👍Thank you for the educational tutorial of these Stearns & Foster mattresses. I had no idea all that the engineering of these mattresses. Tomorrow morning I'm going out and buy one, I hope I'm not disappointed.🤔
thanks for the video, and all the details! super excited for my Lux Estate Zara edition arriving tomorrow! However, I have been going back and forth with the adjustable frame that I tried in store with my mattress and it did feel amazing. My concern is that are Stearns and Foster mattresses made for adjustable frames? will it affect the coils? I am probably just going to go with a reg. frame but I was just wondering for maybe down the road. Many thanks!
Hi there -- Thanks for your question, and sorry we missed this earlier. Yes, all Stearns & Foster mattresses are adjustable base compatible, so you should be fine should you choose to go that direction in the future. I hope that's helpful.
Great review! We just hit the 2 month mark on the Reserve Medium tight top and it’s been amazing! We were initially concerned about the memory foam feel as we prefer to sleep on top of our mattress, but honestly hasn’t been an issue at all. Just enough conformity for side sleep without the trapped feeling of MF.
Our last mattress was a S&F and lasted for 10 years. I’m aware of complaints of premature sagging with S&F but that wasn’t our experience and time will tell with this one. Thanks again for your review!
Thanks for your kind words -- so glad you've been happy with your purchase!
yeah but many companies have used cheaper materials I hope this company hasn't
@@robbielynmccrary872 Hey there! We generally think highly of the materials that Stearns and Foster use in their products. The Reserve line in particular is very well constructed.
We bought an aireloom m2 luxury firm mattress and it has much too much conformance. We are small people and we sink deeply into the tufting, causing sore hips and lower back. Have only had it a month.
Considering the lux estate pillow top firm.
Was surprised by your answer below that it is a 5 on your scale and that the medium tight top and medium pillow top in the lux estate collection are a bit firmer at a 6 than the firm pillow top.
We found them to be softer in the showroom.
Can you please clarify?
I’ve called Stearns and foster directly and they just read from the descriptions. Telling me that the lux estate pillow top is a 6-7. The estate pillow top firm is an 8
You have the best reviews I have seen.
Hi Angela -- Thank you for your kind words! I think you may be getting confused by the numbers we provided. On our scale, a higher number means softer, with 9 being the softest, 1 being the firmest, and 5 being right smack in the middle. So if we said one mattress is a 6 and the other is a 5, that means the 6 is a little softer. I hope that's helpful.
FWIW, if you're curious about why we do it this way, it's because "firmness" isn't really a design feature on any mattresses made in the past 30 years -- firmness is merely the lack of cushioning with the floor being the ultimate example of "firm". Thus rating mattresses on a "firmness scale" is backwards -- it would be like rating lightbulbs on a "darkness scale," where the highest rating is the darkest, and the lowest is the brightest. Unfortunately, a lot of fly-by-night mattress review websites have popped up in recent years and, in their lack of any expertise about mattresses, have adopted a "firmness" scale. This has added a lot of confusion to the market, and even caused some manufacturers to feel the need to fit their info to this backward scale. Hopefully as consumers get wiser, these sites will eventually go out of business, but until then we are left with this unfortunate confusion.
Have a great day.
Hi Angela -- I just looked at the 3 models you mentioned and we actually rate all 3 of them VERY similar on their softness levels. All 3 of them are a Medium, and when I look at the decimal points on our ratings (which we don't publish), they're even pretty close within the Medium classification.
That said, we did find some differences between these 3 models on our Cushioning Depth scale (which some manufacturers, including the parent company of Stearns & Foster, conflate with softness). Cushioning Depth is what determines the amount of sinkage and conformance you get on the mattress, which CAN be related to the amount of pillowy softness a mattress has, but isn't always. (Think of an ultra firm Tempur-Pedic mattress that you eventually sink deeply into as a good example of how these characteristics can be very divergent.)
The Firm EPT had the least amount of sinkage, which gave it the lowest cushioning depth rating. While the Medium EPT had the most sinkage and the most conformance, which gave it the highest cushioning depth. The Medium TT had more sinkage but less conformance, which put it in the middle. Here you can see a full side-by-side comparison of these three models:

I hope that's helpful.
Amazing video, thank you very much for putting this together. I watched both the 2019 and 2023 and did not see the lux estate cassat luxury firm. Can you please comment on where this would fall in the Spectrum?
Unfortunately, the Cassatt Luxury Firm is no longer in the current Stearns lineup. This would likely be closest to the Lux Estate Medium or even the Pillowtop Firm.
In case it's helpful, you can see a full discussion of the Cassatt mattresses discussed in the Lux Estate section of our video about the 2019 collection (all of the Lux Estate models in the national line used the Cassatt model name): ruclips.net/video/Km3mvXuBzto/видео.html
@@goodbed thank you for your response.
Would be great if someone had a firmness rating 1-10 (10 extra firm) for all these mattresses. I have slept on two of these and they were too firm (a 9 to me). Looking for a 6-7. Would be helpful.
It’s on the website. Enjoy! Which models did you get to sleep on?
Sorry we missed this previously. As another reader pointed out, all this info is on our website.
You can compare all of our assessments of all these models side by side here: www.goodbed.com/compare/
And you can also search and filter models matching specific criteria here: www.goodbed.com/mattress-models/
To get you started, I think this would be the list of models that have the softness level you're looking for: www.goodbed.com/mattress-models/?softness=4&softness=3
That said, this is a comprehensive list, so there are 165 of them. You can easily use the other filters to further narrow your options.
I hope that's helpful.
If you’re looking for a 6-7, get the lux estate pillow top medium. Thats what I’m getting, it has some firmness with a little sink/conforming to the body.
I have a firm and love it and now at 11 years I'm replacing for the exact same one but they don't make it anymore!
Thank you very much for your expert review. I currently sink in my mattress like the Edmund Fitzgerald. With your expertise, I decided to purchase the Lux Estate Firm Euro Pillowtop 16" Mattress- King. Coming next week Wednesday! Thanks!
You're very welcome!
Hi, how do you like the firm PT model? Does it feel like it has enough cushioning for side sleeper? I am worried that soft models might cause spinal misalignment, but firm is uncomfortable due to pressure points. What is your experience? Does it feel too warm?
Awesome! I am getting the same one
Does the Reserve Soft Pillow Top contain microcoils in the pillow top part? What exactly is the pillow top made from for the Reserve?
Ah good question. If you mean the Reserve Soft Eurotop (but without the detachable pillowtop - called the Reserve Duet), then this pillowtop does indeed have microcoils along with high-quality memory foam like Tempur's Indulge foam.
But if you mean the *detachable* pillowtop of the Reserve Duet, then this is comprised of natural fibers like wool and Tencel in addition to latex and memory foam.
Thank you this was informative
I PURCHASED THE LUX ESTATE SOFT KING PILLIOW TOP. CANT WAIT Im sure I made a great choices,
Hi, what is the difference between the mattress that comes in the box, (the popular ones u see everywhere), and the og inner spring mattresses that have been around forever? I’m wanting to buy but I can’t get an answer for this..ty
Are any of the Reserve mattresses tufted? I know S&F used to tuft some of the high-end mattresses.
Ah great question. I believe the only hand-tufted models in the line are in the Reserve mattresses, yes. Most of the others models use a more traditional quilt.
Very thorough review, I feel confident going into the store understanding the differences between medium and firm in this brand. Was looking for least amount of tempurpedic layering. I'm so over my tempurpedic it makes my body sore at times.
Most of these models use a touch of Tempur memory foam for pressure relief (this is called Tempur-Indulge in the Stearns advertising), but this is usually about an inch to an inch and a half and balanced by the quilt and other poly foam. So despite the small amount of shared material, we wouldn't expect any of these models to really feel like a Tempur-Pedic. I hope that's helpful.

Hi, great information but I’m 6’5” 270 pound and I am looking at the lux hybrid. I am mostly a side sleeper and sometimes back. Would you recommend medium or firm and do you think this mattress would last for me or will it develop sink spots fast? Thank you.
I think it depends on how you hold your weight. If your muscular and your weight is well distributed you could most likely get away with the medium but if you hold a lot of weight in maybe your mid section you’d probably want the firm so you don’t sink in that area
Any plans to work on the 'Compare' section of the website? Every time I search for a bed I'm considering, things show up as 'discontinued'.
Ah you've found it! And yes, this is an ongoing project at the moment. Stay tuned!
Loved the Lux estate PT firm but wished it would be a hair softer.. is the PT medium too memory foamy? Because we don’t like temperpedic type products at all. Or would we be better off with the standard medium?
Hi Gio -- Thanks for your question. "Too memory foamy" is all a matter of personal preference of course, but FWIW, we rate the Firm Pillow Top as a 5 on Memory Feel (which is dead average on our 1-9 spectrum) and we rate both the Medium Pillow Top and the Medium Tight Top as a 6. So yes, they do have a little more memory feel, but the difference is not huge. For context, all Tempur-Pedic models rate as at least a 7 on this same metric.
I hope that's helpful.
I have the lux estate med firm n it’s way too soft i sink inn too much there is no firmness at all I’m returning mines for the firm
@@shaytrenee9080how heavy are you??
Hi! Love your reviews. In your opinion, does the Lux Estate PT firm feel more like a medium firm? I tried this mattress at a store and it does not feel super firm. The medium PT cost more, that’s why I’m hesitant to order the medium PT. Im a side sleeper. Do you think I should order the medium PT or the Firm PT? Thanks
Hi Tammie -- Thanks for your question. Yes, the Lux Estate Firm Pillow Top is actually a Medium on our softness spectrum, not a Firm. And we actually rated the Medium Pillow Top as a Medium as well, so these two models are quite similar in terms of their softness levels. That said, the Medium Pillow Top does have more Cushioning Depth (in particular, you'll tend to nestle a little further down into that one), and a bit more Memory Feel as well. Either one of these could work for a side sleeper, depending on your other needs and preferences. I hope that's helpful.
I’m having the exact same issue!!! The firm doesn’t feel like a firm!!
Hi - I appreciate your videos! I recently purchased the Lux Estate PT Firm and it slept incredibly hot for me and my partner. I think this is due to the pillow top being all foam and not great at heat dispersement, despite the "cooling cover" and air vents, but I'm curious to get your thoughts on the other options I'm considering for my replacement mattress:
- Stearns & Foster Estate Firm: I read your review that said it has 1.5" of memory foam, which is still a good amount, but I imagine less than the pillow top version, do you think this would be a suitable replacement?
- Beautyrest Black L Class Firm: I read your review that says it has 3/4" foam built into the cover and 1" total memory foam throughout so would you say this mattress has less memory foam than the S&F Estate Firm mattress and perhaps a better option? Or, does this one have 1.75" of foam throughout?
Really just looking for a high quailty firm mattress that doesn't sleep hot, so less memory foam is probably best.
Thank you in advance for any insight!
@@v____l Are you referring to the S&F Lux Estate PT Firm? If so, I would say this is a medium on the firmness scale because of the roughly 2" of pillow top that is probably all foam. This mattress did sleep very hot for me, but that is personal and depends on you.
Oh boy, worst fears have been realized 😅
@@user-dv1nh5mm2fWas actually expecting some people to say it’s HOT will all those Tempur indulge Memory foam. Doesn’t even make mention of Cooling Gel/beads!

I got the s&f medium reserve tight top from mattress firm. They didnt have soft pillowtop. I tried the firm but wasnt sure and afraid i was going to sink in to much and create shoulder pain again. So Im trying this one out for my 120days. I like it so far good support, keep me align. I might switch to the pillow top soft.but im afraid i might sink in to much loose alignment and hurt my shoulder again. Like my last mattress. I sleep on my side mostly, sometimes back and stomach . Im 136 pounds. Before I had a beautyrest plush jennings. I like the feel but it was killing my shoulder ,i sink in but no support and i wake up with a weak feeling in the back and a throbbing shoulder. It was hurting bad. Not sure if it was to soft and i sunk into to much . Or if the mattress was just no good support wise. Hard question but Any thoughts on that?
Thx
Hey there!
I think you have it right. A too soft mattress can create a feeling of inadequate support and poor alignment, which can lead to pain and poor sleep like the kind you're describing. I'd probably recommend sticking with the model you have and seeing how that goes over the trial period. Hope that helps!
Looking forward to getting our Medium Reserve delivered as well in the next couple weeks. How is it holding up? Does it meet your expectations?
@@chrisdobz4468 we’ve had our Reserve Medium since February and it’s been fantastic. Good luck and hopefully it’s a good choice for you as well!
I'm thinking about the S&F Medium Reserve Tight Top. Did you end up liking it and keeping it or did you exchange it for the Soft Pillow Top?
@@Michel-k28mjs We kept the Medium Reserve Tight Top. It’s really been terrific and I don’t think I’d want anything softer. It’s soft enough for our shoulders and hips to sink in just enough (wife and I are both mostly side sleepers) but supportive enough to sleep on our backs.
8 months in and this has very much been the perfect soft/support combo for us.
I can't decide between the Estate Ultra Firm of the Estate Lux Ultra firm. Can someone please clarify the top layers?
It sounds like the Estate Ultra Firm just has 3/4 in of the memory foam and Estate Lux Ultra Firm has 3/4 in of memory foam PLUS the 1" Latex? Or do they remove the memory foam completely in the Lux and replace with the latex?
Just wondering if the Ultra Firm Lux has the Memory foam and the latex or just the latex?
Also wondering what the true height of these Ultra Firms are? are they both 14.5" or is one slightly shorter? I guess if they completely replace the 3/4" of memory foam with 1" of latex than they would be practically the msame height (+.25") or if they are adding 1" of latex to the 3/4" memory foam then wouldn't it be 1" taller? The S&F website says they are the same height.
Why can't S&F just give us all of these details on their website?
Hi Paul -- Good question! Our records show that the Lux Estate version contains both the memory foam and the latex, and that it is 1" taller than the Estate version. Here's a side-by-side comparison that includes the layer by layer construction of each of them: www.goodbed.com/compare/?mod=stearns-foster-estate-ultra-firm-tight-top&mod=stearns-foster-lux-estate-ultra-firm-tight-top
I hope that's helpful!
Curious to know if the Duet Topper has Micro Coils within it? BTW, thanks for the video. Much appreciated.
Hey there - actually, there are not micro coils in the Duet Topper. This is approximately 2" of memory foam and 2" of latex. However, there are micro-coils in the Eurotop models, which can be a bit confusing overall.
What exactly is the difference between the Estate Plush vs Firm tight top? You explained that the Estate ultra firm tight top has memory foam that is not as thick. I was looking at both the Plush & Firm & they both are 14.5 inches but one is Firm & the other is Soft.
Good question. The difference here will be in the firmness of the interior foams and the tightness of the quilting on the surface. So both wind up being the same height, but have different overall comfort materials.
That doesnt help. Is the firm tight top much softer than the ultra?
I purchased the previous model S&F luxe estate plush pillow top at 2021. I really don't like the micro coils laid down closer to surface. Those tiny coils on pillow top models give less memory foam feel but I can feel them digging into my skin. Seems like they got rid of that completely for new models and added latex for the bouncy feeling. Is that correct? Thanks for the awesome reviews :) love your channel.
Hi Andrew -- Thanks for your kind words. The current Lux Estate does add latex, however it still has a layer micro-coils near the top, as you can see in our layer breakdown here:
www.goodbed.com/mattress-model/stearns-foster-lux-estate-soft-euro-pillow-top/#materials-construction
As an aside, I'm interested in your complaint of feeling the micro-coils "digging into your skin," since this is not something I've experienced, nor is it something I hear very often. Just for my own edification, would you mind sharing your approximate height / weight and the sleep position in which you tend to experience this sensation?
@@goodbed @goodbed
thanks for your reply, your interest on my comment and awesome reviews!
To be completely honest I wasn't thinking that I'd feel the micro coils but with time it became more obvious...
I'm 5'9 and 170 lb, 30 y.o, male. I work out two-three times a week. No health issues.
It's so weird that only time I have pain is when I'm laying down on a mattress with microcoils. My pain is on my ribs when I lay down on my belly and when I lay on my back the pain is located on shoulder blades as well as upper spine. Those are clear signs of pressure points.
Here's the weirdest part... My pain is like this: imagine someone left quarters and dimes underneath the mattress surface and You're laying on them. When the memory foam gets compressed with my weight on it, you can feel those circular metals. Isn't that so weird?
I even put a latex topper but it didn't change the feeling so much.
Maybe I have a defective mattress. I'll be reaching out to Stearns and foster for sure.
This feeling of pressure points existed since day one.
We purchased the Lux Estate Medium but it’s just to firm. The tag stapled to the mattress has two references to firmness. Top of tag says PT Firm and lower part of tag states EPT Medium. Are there different options for the pillow top as well as the base mattress?
I purchased my mattress on 2021 and took literally 6 months to get the actual softness. I'd say be patient and let the mattress breath a lot during the day with removing sheets when it's not in use. Where it hurts on your body?
Thank you so much covering these mattresses. About to go drop $3200 after mattress firm giving me a grand credit. Again thanks.
Our pleasure Sam -- glad to help!
HI @goodbed I'M IN THE PROCESS OF BUYING A BED AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW YOUR OPINION BETWEEN THE STEARNS AND FOSTER RESERVED SOFT PILLOW TOP AND THE BEAUTYREST BLACK K CLASS SOFT PILLOW TOP, WICH ONE WOULD YOU RECOMEND ME ? BETWEEN THESE 2??
So we don't really think there's a clearly superior option between these two models. Both have some latex, a similar amount of memory foam, microcoils, and natural fibers over an exceptionally durable coil unit. In this case, I'd really just go with the one that feels best to you.
I hope that helps.
Boy they’re thick mattresses. And the craftsman’s signature… 😳 they must be just down the “Ultra luxury” category.
Those ‘encased foam pockets’ reminds me of Carpe Diem beds’ “Contour Pocket system” where the comfort layers are supposedly ‘integrated’ into the Springs.
Is any of these mattresses comparable to the Lake-ridge made for Kirkland (Costco)?
My understanding is that the Lakeridge is based on the previous Stearns collection, though not all of these details are publicly available. So yep, these should be similar (with a similar or exact same coil unit) but with some slightly different materials in their foam layers and quilt.
I hope that's helpful!
Currently we have the Nolah evolution in “plush” and I am still not able to sleep on my side because I have curvy hips and tend to get sharp hip pains on mattresses that are obviously not working and I also sleep on my back, but have lordosis with extra curvature of the lower spine in need all that support. The Nolah is just not doing it for us to the point where we had to add a three or 4 inch memory foam on top just to get a little bit more comfort. I remember one time staying at an Airbnb where the mattress just immediately made me feel like I was surrounded by a Cloud of soft, fluffy feathers but was also supportive enough, but not hard or firm. That is the type of bed I am looking for. I want to feel like the top is very soft and plush and feather bed like but also supportive enough, I know that there are some high-end hotels that make their own brand of mattresses with companies, and I’m wondering if there are any of those or other brands that you recommend for what I’m looking for. Thank you.
Hey there!
This is a difficult question actually. Softness is very subjective, and sometimes model that are too soft can throw people out of alignment AND still induce pressure point pain on hips and shoulders. For this reason, we generally feel most comfortable recommend models around a Medium in terms of overall firmness. These can provide that sense of surface softness whilst still providing a stable sense of support.
With regards to hotel models - these are typically pocket coil models made by Serta, Beautyrest, or Sealy. All of these companies sell hotel models to the public, but these are unlikely to be much different than the already publicly available models.
Have you been able to make it into any local stores to get a better sense of what you like? We do have store locators for most brands.
Hopefully you get to have a solo review for the Lux Estate! ❤
Hey there! We may not get around to that one as a solo review, but still happy to answer any questions you might have.
@@goodbed ok. What do you think keeps the Lux Estate being Cool and Responsive, having a lot of layers of Tempur indulge memory foams, and Pocket springs. I mean, there’s Tempur Hybrid w/ all those pocketed coils, and even Beautyrest black which still ain’t (review-wise) as cool nor as Responsive as this Lux Hybrid
Been sleeping on the best, Stearns and Foster mattress for 11 years. I am only looking for the exact same model due to its age, it isn't made anymore! Stearns told me an equivalent but when i went to the store yesterday, the tops are button top and the one I have is not. Im afraid to buy a button top. Please advise.
QQ(Quick Question) Is S&F still making a double-sided (reversible) mattress?
To our knowledge - no. Not in the US consumer market at least. Hope that helps!
@@goodbed thank you for your quick response. Been a loyal fan of S&F for 40+ years. And I still prefer a mattress that I can flip every 6 months. They last longer and have incredible longevity. Guess I’ll continue to look,
@@barbarareidjackson650 Alas, they are very hard to find these days. Smaller mattress manufacturers still make these, though vanishingly few larger brands do. Best of luck in the search!
I recently bought the estate tight top firm. It is too firm for my husband who is side sleeper and is complaining of his arm going numb. We are both side sleepers and weight category for us is in 190-260 for both of us. I want something that is a little firm where we don't "sink in" the bed, but something soft enough for side sleeping and occasional back sleeping.
I'm thinking of exchanging it for : 1 of these three :
Estate soft pillowtop (which felt kind of medium in the store). but I’m afraid the pillow top will wear out, what is your opinion on this ? ? I was seriously considering this one but didn't want it to feel so soft we both won't get that firmness(or support) we are looking for.
Estate medium tight top or the lux estate medium tight top.
What do you recommend????
Hi there -- Thanks for your question. Based on this info, I would actually concur with your instinct to go with the Estate Soft Pillowtop.
Looking at the amount and quality of the foam in that model, and comparing it to the other (tight top) models, I don't think the risks of it wearing out are materially different.
More generally, I think that model is just a little better for you guys and your side sleeping + occasional back sleeping. Here's a comparison of our assessments of all 3 of these that illustrates this: www.goodbed.com/compare/?mod=stearns-foster-estate-medium-tight-top&mod=stearns-foster-estate-soft-euro-pillow-top&mod=stearns-foster-lux-estate-medium-tight-top&mod=stearns-foster-estate-firm-tight-top
I also included the Firm Tight Top for reference. As you can see, the pressure relief in that model is by far the worst of all 4 of these, which I believe is the reason your husband has been having trouble with his arm going numb.
I hope that's helpful.
Thank you for replying. Do you think the estate pillow top soft will be too soft for us and still give us the support we need?
Can these beds go into a traditional king bed frame?
Yes, this should be fine as long as you have a foundation, or as long as the frame has a platform or closely spaced slats. You should also make sure the frame has some support underneath the center of the mattress that goes all the way to the ground. I hope that's helpful.
Which is best for low back pain? Back and side sleeper. And has cooling ability? Thanks!
Hi there -- Low back pain is a result of your spine not being held in proper alignment, which in turn is a function of how well the mattress fits your particular weight and body shape in your preferred sleep position(s). This means that there is no universal answer to which mattress will minimize back pain -- whether in this line or in general. For a back and side sleeper, you're typically going to want something that's between Medium-Firm and Medium-Soft, depending mainly on a) how much you weigh (the more, the firmer), b) how much time you spend on your side (the more, the softer), c) how wide your shoulders and hips are (the wider, the softer), and d) how susceptible you are to pressure points when sleeping on your side (the more, the softer).
Focusing on the Lux Estate models, there are 4 pretty good choices here. Choosing the right one will depend on the factors I outlined above, but on average I would say the Firm Euro Pillow Top and Medium Euro Pillow Top would be the best two choices. You can see a full side-by-side comparison of all our assessments of these models here:
www.goodbed.com/compare/?mod=stearns-foster-lux-estate-firm-euro-pillow-top&mod=stearns-foster-lux-estate-medium-euro-pillow-top&mod=stearns-foster-lux-estate-medium-tight-top&mod=stearns-foster-lux-estate-soft-euro-pillow-top
The good news is that from a cooling standpoint, all 4 of these should perform quite similarly.
I hope that's helpful.
@@goodbed thanks for the reply. Decided on the saatva classic.
@@phatspeed Thanks for letting us know, and sorry we'd missed your question here previously. I hope you're very happy with your choice.
Does Sterns & Foster still made the Lux Estate Cassatt Ultra Soft plush pillowtop? I’m a petite woman, 5’2” weighing 114 lbs & I’m looking for a soft mattress, not only on the top layer but also a more flexible coil system.
Hi Denise -- Thanks for your question. I'm afraid all of the Lux Estate Cassatt models were discontinued last year. While most of them were replaced by comparable models in the current lineup, that particular model has no direct replacement. The closest comparable in the current lineup would be the Lux Estate Soft Euro Pillow Top, which has similar characteristics to the Cassatt Ultra Plush Pillow Top but is one notch firmer on our softness spectrum (a Medium-Soft instead of a Soft). You can see that model here: www.goodbed.com/o/p/412514/stearns-foster-lux-estate-soft-euro-pillow-top/stearns-foster/stearns-foster/
That said, given your weight and the other criteria you mentioned, I think you might also want to take a look at the new Lux Hybrid Soft. It has very similar amount of upper level softness to the Cassatt Plush Pillow Top, but with an even more flexible coil system. You can find that model here: www.goodbed.com/o/p/412542/stearns-foster-lux-hybrid-soft/stearns-foster/stearns-foster/
Also, in case you want to save some extra money, you should also take a look at our S&F profile page. Depending on where you shop, you may be able to get $100 or more in extra cash back from GoodBed after you purchase. You can find that here: www.goodbed.com/mattresses/stearns-foster/
I hope that's helpful.
Thank you so much for the great information. I really appreciate it. I am going to try out the Lux Hybrid Soft in a store. I like a soft mattress & do like the nestling/ cradling feeling of sleeping “in” the bed. I really like the idea of the more flexible coil system.
I am planning on trying out the Lux Hybrid Soft mattress but I am a little concerned that the the foam used might be very close to the foam used in the Tempur pedic mattresses which I am not really a fan of. Is the foam in the Lux Hybrid very similar to Tempur pedic foam?
@@deniseparashac8269 It is similar in terms of its delayed responsiveness, however it is much softer than typical Tempur-Pedic foam, so it doesn't feel hard like a rock when you first lie down on it.
@@goodbed Thank you very much. Very good to know. I also took the Good Bed quiz & my results were: Birch Plush Pillow Top, Purple Restore Premier Soft, Naturepedic EOS Pillowtop Ultra Plush. I will be watching your videos of these mattresses. Thank you for the very informative videos. Much appreciated.
The duet all they did was take from the matress and put on the top of the topper😂😂 its still the same bed in the reserve collection my sister used to work for a matress company but i pretty much fiqured that out by myself good video tho
Lux estate collection. Looking for the difference in the pillow top firm vs pillow top med ? Help
Hi there -- Thanks for your question. These two models are extremely similar in almost every way. We even rated them as the same softness level on our spectrum -- a Medium. The only subtle differences worth noting IMO are that the Medium has a bit less cushioning depth (ie, you'll sink a little deeper into it) and slightly more memory feel. Do you know what SF would compare to aireloom Morgan med plush.. thx
Hi Jeff -- I'm afraid Aireloom mattresses tend to have different models names in every store, so I'm not familiar with that particular model.
I was just told by a Stearns & Foster dealer near me that I could NOT buy a S & F Lux Estate mattress from them because the called their S & F rep and was told it is no longer manufactured. Is that really so or are they wrong?
Hi Ed -- That's strange, as we haven't heard anything at all along these lines. FWIW, here's a link to where you can still see (and purchase) the Lux Estate models directly from the S&F website: www.goodbed.com/o/l/stearns-foster-lux-estate/stearns-foster/

Is the brown/beige collection the older version of the blue collection?
Hi there -- No, the most recent brown version was actually two collections ago. That collection ran from 2016-2019. You can see our coverage of it here: ruclips.net/video/7yMUT6HpRVs/видео.html&rel=0
Is 2500 for a lux hybrid queen a good price?
Hi there -- Stearns & Foster is a MAP-priced product, which means that S&F sets a price that its retailers are not allowed to sell below. Likewise, the timing and max amount of any seasonal discounts are also set by S&F. This is the same price and discounts that S&F offers on its own website so most retailers sell for this same price and opt into these same periodic discounts. In such cases, whatever price you see is the best available price. If you come across a price below that, my suspicion would be that something is not on the up and up -- eg, it could be used merchandise, a fake product, some kind of clearance item, etc. I hope that's helpful.
Which is the firmest mattress within these collections? Estate or lux estate?
I can’t decide between the Lux estate PT firm and the Reserve PT firm. I can’t find a store that has both to try at same time. Which is firmer?
Hi Mary -- Thanks for your question, and sorry we missed this one earlier. We found the Lux Estate to be slightly firmer than the Reserve. The Lux Estate will also have a bit less memory feel, a little shallower cushioning, and a tad more bounce -- all of which are purely preference-based characteristics. In addition, we found the Reserve will have slightly better edge support and motion isolation.
Here's a side-by-side comparison of all of our assessments of these two models that I think you'll find helpful: www.goodbed.com/compare/?mod=stearns-foster-lux-estate-firm-euro-pillow-top&mod=stearns-foster-reserve-firm-euro-pillow-top

Does anyone have issues with these mattresses sagging in the middle?
You mentioned that the Estate Soft feels like a Medium in terms of softness. . But the Estate also comes in Medium model. Then in terms of softness, what does a Medium feels like?
Hi Alex -- Yes, that Estate Medium Tight Top is one of two additional models that S&F has released since we filmed this video. It is actually much closer to the Soft Tight Top than it is to the Firm Tight Top. Technically, we classify it as a Medium-Firm, however it is on the softest end of that classification, very close to being a Medium. By the same token, the Soft Tight Top is toward the softest end of the Medium classification, so they are about 1 full point apart. I hope that's helpful.
@@goodbed yes. Thanks for the clarification. Enjoyed your video and was helpful in deciding which model to get for F&S. And the fact that you just uploaded the Beautyrest Black series video was icing on the cake. Prior to seeing any of your videos. @@alexng4 Great, very glad this gave you the information you needed, Alex -- thanks for letting us know!
To be clear
Stearns and foster rates the lux estate firm pillow top as a 6-7
Lux estate medium tight top and medium pillow top as medium 5
Hi Angela -- I'm not quite sure what you're asking here, but a couple things to note here that might help clarify. First is that every manufacturer is different in how they evaluate softness, what they measure, and what they consider to be soft, firm, medium, etc. This is why we have a unified scale that we apply very consistently across all brands and products. Second is are you sure the S&F scale is the same as ours? On our scale, 9 is the softest and 1 is the firmest.
I hope that's helpful.
Where do I get these mattresses to buy

2) You can check for stores in your area that carry these options here: www.goodbed.com/mattress-stores/?m=m_stearns-foster

How’s the quality and comfort compared to aireloom? Thx
Hi Jeff, this is a really tough question to answer. First, comfort is entirely subjective. But second, comfort will be entirely model-specific so can't be compared -- or even described -- at the product line level.
In terms of quality, this is much more objective, but will vary quite a bit across an entire line of products. For example, S&F has nearly 20 models across their current line-up, and Aireloom has about 10 models in their Preferred collection (which is by far their most popular). In each case, these models span a wide range of price points (with S&F spanning an even wider range than Aireloom) -- and accordingly, have a wide range of feels, features, and materials.
In general, both Aireloom and Stearns & Foster are high-end luxury mattress brands that tend to use premium materials and more traditional (higher quality) methods of mattress construction. With all that said, here are a few thoughts on some key differences.
First, at any given price point, an Aireloom mattress will tend to contain more natural materials, such as cotton, wool, and latex. Secondly, Aireloom mattresses are functionally tufted, which means their layers are cinched together by strands of heavy thread pulled through the mattress from the top to the bottom, a method that helps to pre-compress the materials and avoids the use of glue. One side effect of this pre-compression is that it can obscure the differences in softness between various comfort materials. To compensate for this, Aireloom enhances the variation in its feels by using a much softer coil unit for its plush models than it does in its firm and luxury firm models.
By contrast, at any given price point, Stearns & Foster tends to use more high-quality memory foam, such as the Tempur-Indulge material that we describe in this video. This material helps with pressure relief and will tend to give the average S&F mattress a bit more memory feel. There are also many differences from a support standpoint, starting with the fact that (with the exception of the Studio collection) S&F mattresses all use an IntelliCoil support unit. As we explained in the video, this is an individually-encased coil-in-coil design that is able to offer variable levels of support to better adapt to different body sizes and shapes in different sleep positions. S&F also uses edge coils instead of a foam perimeter, which gives its mattresses significantly more air flow at the support level of the mattress. And in its higher end models, S&F adds zoning to give its mattresses even more support under the heaviest part of our body (the hips).
I hope that's helpful.
Hi Mike thx for your reply, I just discover your website we have a king sealy with adjustable base we want to replace the king with twin xls so we can adjust independently should we take 1 quiz for both or 2 separate quizzed thou we definitely don’t want to end up with 2 mattress heights. Thx
@@jeffp2001 If you are purchasing two separate beds, I would suggest that you each take the quiz separately so that each of you gets the best individual recommendations for you. From there, you can look at mattress height and find options that are similar in height.
Taking the quiz jointly will blend your criteria together and look for the options that offer the best compromise for both of you. This is a very useful option when purchasing one bed that needs to work for two people, but it isn't relevant in your case.
You forgot to mention the layer of micro coils known as the reserve
Hey great catch! Though let me point out that these microcoils should only be present in the Pillow Top options. The Tight Top Reserve should just be the nested Intellicoil HD unit.
@goodbed thank you :)
The lux series seems more interesting to me than the top of the line reserve series.
If you're talking about the Lux Hybrid - that is indeed interesting! That foam + pocket spring unit is a relatively new entry to the market. It adds a LOT of conformance.
Tempur pro adapt has been hybrid for years and they are the most uncomfortable mattress I’ve ever tried. S&F estate is a much better bed.
Mattresses are a racket! Just bought a 2023 Sterns & Fosters Reserve, Medium tight top, King from my cousin that can get them direct from the factory through Sealy. The MSRP is $5,200 and he got it to me delivered for $1,560. That’s 70% discount and they are still making a healthy profit of at least 200% on that transaction alone. The only thing sold today with better profit margins are Diamonds (which are a complete scam).
Considering the price I’m not going to complain at all. My last S&F has lasted us going on 15 years and although it’s sagging in the pillow top it’s still super comfortable.
Sterns & Fosters in my experience is the best.
What I’m afraid of…. How many years before the Pillow top part sags??
Honest Opinion, how do like that model, the Reserve Medium Tight top after sleeping on it? Also, does it have a memory foam mattress feel or an innerspring mattress feel?
no information regarding heat retention, memory foam retains heat and can sleep hot if you are a hot sleeper
Hi Greg -- Thanks for your comment. This video is an overview of the entire product line, not an in-depth review of a particular model. As such, we weren't able to discuss every feature and characteristic in great detail.
In general, you're correct. Memory foam tends to be denser than conventional foam, so this can indeed trap heat for people who either naturally give off a lot of excess heat during the night or whose bedroom climates lead to excess heat being generated. For other people, this concern is often overblown.
In terms of these particular models, all of them do use at least some memory foam in their comfort layers, as well as a lot of comfort foam in general. That said, there are offsetting factors as well, most notably the fact that all of them have edge to edge coils in the support layer of the mattress, which helps a lot with airflow. On balance, we put most of them between pretty good and good on our rating scale on this dimension (ie, 6-7), though the Lux Hybrids would be below that.
For more details on any particular model, or to view as many as 5 of them side by side on this and any other dimension, you can use our side-by-side comparison tool here: www.goodbed.com/compare/
