Eh, I did that with Wuthering Heights at least five times and hate it. Each time I reread it, I hoped that this would be the time I either liked it or understood why others liked it. Granted several of those rereadings were at college where I was writing a paper on the shift in perception of said book and its film adaptations... which meant watching multiple versions of it as well.
Sarah Walker 1) forced into reading something they don't like 2) school 3) compulsion 4) masochist 5) thinking it will be better than it is 6) attempting to not be narrow minded (but still/sometimes failing) 7) knowing the facts/reasons when going up against and/or defending yourself from those who like the book and can't understand why you don't
I agree. I don’t like mystery/thrillers but I gave one a chance. I ended up hating it but I didn’t review or star it because I knew it was my bias and couldn’t give it a rational review.
I love Harry Potter, but it’s not for everyone. Also, the third book is where she really hits her stride and her writing is better. Although I think it was good to begin with. (The LOTR review was hilarious, like did they even realize that those are two different stories)?
NOOOOO! not Harry Potter! Sadly I knew kids that were not allowed to read harry potter because their parents thought like that person in the review! Lol will still always be my favorite books
There was a mother I knew years ago, who told her son to inform me, that I had to stop bringing my Harry Potter books with me if I wanted to be allowed entry into her home. I respected her wishes for a few reasons: 1) I respected her as a mother 2) The book went against her religious beliefs and I wasn't about to be rude about it when this had been the only time she had voiced them towards my family. 3) I only read the books out of boredom I know that anyone reading my comment might see her as stupid, rude, or something else exaggeratedly horrible. She wasn't and I can't think of a way to make that clear. The only thing that comes close to understanding that would be to use an aunt as an example. I had an aunt ,who had several years ago, taken me aside to make sure that I understood that what I was reading was made up. The woman believed that I had deluded myself into believing it was real and decided to give me a mild intervention. I looked at her like she was a massive idiot since she had given me one of the books for Christmas. In hindsight I should have toned it down because I had a class mate who did believe that both she and I were witches having to deal with muggles on a daily basis.
I love HP and read it at least 4 or 5 times when I was young. I grow up with him, I was always around the same age of Harry as the books where released and it was the series that made me fall in love with reading and fantasy. But man, I tried to re read it with 30 yo and it was painful. I managed to get to book 5 and gave up. I'll keep my memories and enjoy the movies from time to time, but I won't ruin the books further for me :D
Loved loved loved Harry Potter (read it eight times!) but if I try to read it again as an adult, I know I'll just want to grab Harry by the shoulders and shake some sense into him😂😂
It plays too much into the whole 'teen drama' thing, without anything that merits a good coming of age story, for me personally. Credit where it's due, Rowling sure is inventive, but I'm much more drawn to harder-darker/more adult orientated fantasy for sure, GoT, Witcher etc (don't kill me)
Yeah, i totally loved the books when i read them the first time ( i was about 7-9 ) but i reread them after a long while, after many more complex and adult books and the second time i read them i still found them enjoyable but was annoyed by several things, including pretty big loopholes and poor character development.
Tess Avery it’s a wonderful world for sure but the books have a lot of flaws and Harry as a character IS very bland. He doesn’t have much of a personality.
Much in the same way I didn't understand that just because I was a child at the time it didn't mean I should have been gifted the books during Christmas. You also probably wouldn't understand why someone would only read the books because they were being forced to, or because they were extremely bored.
I read the Harry Potter books and enjoyed them. That being said, the readers who can't seem to move on from this series annoy me; there are so many good books worth reading that I can't understand the fixation on the Harry Potter books. I removed the books from my shelves on Goodreads because I got tired of having recommendations based on them.
The thing about harry's friends is kind of true 😂 but these books were such a part and formation of my childhood that I have a need to just straight out correct some of these... although some are right.. Again, just love Harry Potter too much.
Lol some of those reviews have me like 🤣. Like if you hate harry potter so much; the why they hell you read it, bought it & wrote a fake review on it. They could have just ask a friend for it. Also they could at least learn proper grammar lol. This video made my day tho Elliot. Also comparing Hotter Potter to Paris Hilton is a bit much. I do love Harry Potter books but they are wayy too long. I saw the the first 3 books the other day & they are 800 something pages long. The story does intrigues me a lot especially the films. I would like to see you do the mistborn series in this format. Have a lovely day!☕🌟
Haha, the Harry Potter to Paris Hilton one was hilarious to me 😆 But I find most of these hilarious, just because I’m always amused at how much some people can really despise a book. And Mistborn was the very first one I did this for! :D
Safina N howdy lovely 😊. Yes I'm doing very well. Yesterday evening was a bit rough with personal drama but I been finishing some cool new art & planning for my birthday Monday. I hope you been doing good! Happy Reading & hope you have fun things to do on the weekend ☘📖
GEORGIO MOSLEY hi sometimes I can’t replay straight away because of the time difference.. sometimes when the video uploads it’s really late my time but I always try to replay to u soon as possible.. sorry for the late replay..
I REALLY TRIED to love Harry potter I wanted to like it cuse everyone else did... It didn't work, really, it wasn't "boring" (though the plot holes in the 3th book could sink a ship. I mean voldemort went to ALL THAT TROUBLE just to get alone time with harry? REALLY? and the smartest way that the most evil, strong and canin wizerd had was to make harry compete in some compatiotion and kill another student? YEA, THAT SEEMS REALISTIC, not to mention that Dumbi know something was off, literly EVERYONE KNOW and no one was like "hey, it sounds fishy so lets not let Harry compete" like WTF and don't get me started on the 4th one) the first book was cute, it wasn't my best read but it also wasn't the worst, it was just fine. I found that Harry is as intresting as a lamp, I could litearly replace the MC with an anonamate object (I mean, give me one thing Harry loves doing in his spare time either than being with his pals, playing on his broom and magic. anything? something? maybe he likes biology? maybe he loves to read?? something??? litearly anything???????), but, it's a kid's book so I didn't mind it, I guess it's "the plain jane" but for boys, and it's cute so I give in a pass (Though I read something similar to Harry potter "Arik REX" I think it was called, and the MC actually had a personality, and an actualy disabiliy beacuse of the shit he went through as a kid and I think that was actually better. but again, it's just my opinion, It's also more comidic and less serioes than Harry potter so..) BUT and this is a big Kim's size but. the writing- was so perfect I could die. anyone saying otherwise is stright up lying to ya, the metaphores and the vary feeling you got from the paper were 100% real. even with plain jane Harry, JK manged to invoke feelings of wonder in me, I loved the characters even though they were a bit of... card bord cutouts (Dumbi- the wise paragon every book just must have for some reason, Hermione- the smart anoying girl, Ron- the lovable dophes with a heart of gld, Hagrid - the big strong huge guy with a heart of gold that protects his cinnamen roll that were the animals and Harry in the series. snape- the big annoying guy that is so evil for litearly 0 reason so you already suspect he might trying to fool someone.) the worldbuliding was also fantastic and engaging. I loved it vary much. she truly made me see "a world of wonder" in this sense. so my thought in a nutshell, sorry if I have weriting mistake I have a problem with that (not dyslekzia) and it's also not my first languge. edit: @4:48@ I don't like Harry Potter like her, but this girl.... she's nuts.
Nope it wasn’t banned. What happened was that someone in the Vatican made it seem like the pope john Paul 2 approved the books. Then some German writer sent her book to then cardinal Ratzinger (later becoming Pope Benedict XVI) which was called Harry Potter-good or evil. He sent a letter thanking her and saying he agreed that the book could be impressionable on young minds. His response was made public when he was Pope. Making it seem like the pope was banning the books. Even though his reply was as a cardinal and he made no clear stance in the letter. But some used quotes from it to claim he had. The only thing the church has told parents to do is be aware of what their children read at a young age. Which really should be any parent in my opinion.
Oh God Elle, I hope.i dont wind up being one of those 1 star reviewers for Harry Potter, lol. Ive.never read the books, but saw one or.two.movies. I just started to.buy the fully illustrated ones thinking it will endear me to the story, but mainly I bought them for my granddaughter as collectibles. I'm hoping I like them. I also am often confused that unless it was a fav growing up, how can grownups waste their time rereading them???? Baffles me. I guess I'll have to read and see what all the hype is about, but honestly, I'm not holding out much hope. Ha.
I feel like these people never actually read the books and just saw the movies. 1. The books never state Harry is rich. Yes he inherited a small fortune. His parents died and he’s an only child. He has zero expenses outside of the school term and lives in the Muggle community where his money isn’t needed. The movies kinda implied he’s super rich. 2. Harry is famous for a specific reason. All these reviews overlook that. 3. Harry isn’t overly gifted. If anything Hermione is the strongest of the three. I can understand being naturally gifted with flying a boom like many people are naturally gifted at other things. Harry is taught and practices very hard with everything he learns where as Hermione seems to just get it. Poor Ron takes a bit longer. 4. The movies ruined Ron and Neville. Just had to add it.
One of the earlier reviews, quite long explaining how mediocre Harry is and how his friends carry him along so he never has to improve himself....kinda true put in that way. I've read the series once through and I enjoyed it but I'm definitely not a dedicated fan like most people.
I cannot stand why people only focus on the magic when it comes to the Christianity argument. There are many core values that every Christian should learn. Chronicles of Narnia has fantasy and magic and no one has problems with that. Well at least compared to Harry Potter. The author was Christian. I forget of Jk Rowling is Christian. Also, i did not het into these books until college so it is not just for kids. Omg. I just proved some people’s argument about being too passionate about this series. I do not approve of what JK Rowling is doing, but I have such a fondness for these books and the fandom helps me feel less alone.
I love Harry Potter but even I have to admit that some of these negative reviews are very ACCURATE! Hilarious video!
omg hahaha "Paris Hilton of the magic world" I lost it
"Demonic thoughts of Quidditch" would be a great band name
Hilarious! Can’t believe someone actually read a book they hated 3 times!
Also, are these mostly reviews for the first book?
Haha, I know! I have a hard enough time finishing a book I don’t like 😆 And yeah, they were for the first one :)
"I don't really like books about wizards", "I don't like fantasy"... I don't understand why people try to read things they know they won't like
Sarah Walker
1) forced into reading something they don't like
2) school
3) compulsion
4) masochist
5) thinking it will be better than it is
6) attempting to not be narrow minded (but still/sometimes failing)
7) knowing the facts/reasons when going up against and/or defending yourself from those who like the book and can't understand why you don't
I hate fantasy, but read fantasy and hated it. Whhyyy?
If you are going to read a new genre, at least have an open mind
Yes, exactly!!! 🤦🏻♀️
I'm not a big fan of fantasy at all either but respect everyone's opinions!
I agree. I don’t like mystery/thrillers but I gave one a chance. I ended up hating it but I didn’t review or star it because I knew it was my bias and couldn’t give it a rational review.
Right? I’m not a fan of contemporary, it’s just not for me. So what do I do? I don’t read contemporary! It’s that simple.
Exactly
I love this video series, you should do it for _Lord of the Rings_ as well!
ok, you just went from no one to my favorite booktuber in like three days. I can stop watching you videos, I am so addicted 0.0
Nerds with wands!! 🤣😆 Lol omg. These are hilarious, as always.
POOP
Haha, the last one definitely went in depth with why they thought Harry Potter deserves one star 😂
I never could figure out what was so great about Harry Potter. 😂
I love Harry Potter, but it’s not for everyone. Also, the third book is where she really hits her stride and her writing is better. Although I think it was good to begin with. (The LOTR review was hilarious, like did they even realize that those are two different stories)?
Haha, idk. Some of the one star reviews people leave are crazy. At least they’re entertaining though 😆
the one that said thay like fantasy books, but not when there is magic in it....isn't it the magic what what makes a book a 'fantasy book'??? hahaha
Mondenkind It’s called low fantasy
3:25 The best description of Harry Potter books. Without movies barely anyone would even notice them.
what do you mean?
HOW CAN YOU COMPARE HARRY POTTER TO 50 SHADES OF RIDICULOUS WRITING?! YOU DINT HAVE TO LIKE IT BUUUUUTTTTT....50 SHADES OF SHEIT?! NOOO
Mcastillo yeah that was a harsh comment and I don't like Harry Potter.
NOOOOO! not Harry Potter! Sadly I knew kids that were not allowed to read harry potter because their parents thought like that person in the review! Lol will still always be my favorite books
I think the person in the review was joking (hopefully!) but it is kinda crazy what some people do and don’t let their kids read :/
There was a mother I knew years ago, who told her son to inform me, that I had to stop bringing my Harry Potter books with me if I wanted to be allowed entry into her home. I respected her wishes for a few reasons:

I live for these funny 1 star reviews!🤣

(Listens to 0:53)Soooooo these people do realize that this book was written for CHILDREN right? 🤷🏽♀️Because WOW did they expect a lot! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The criticism about Harry being overwhelmingly average is true 😂
Loved loved loved Harry Potter (read it eight times!) but if I try to read it again as an adult, I know I'll just want to grab Harry by the shoulders and shake some sense into him😂😂
I would really like to know how that person's toads "serve" him or her (4:56).
The last review with "poop" was funny. Lol 😂
I don't understand why anyone would dislike Harry Potter...

Ahhh hahaha Harry is Paris Hilton. Brilliant.

GEORGIO MOSLEY hi I hope ur well??

Love your videos soooo much❣
My favorite review was "long book" because it's not it's just a short one really and I find that funny.
Harry Potter is great for what it is. But the adoration that it gets is unwarranted.
I love the one about the person having a stressful day at work 😂😂
I’m sorry, Ron has strength?? 😂 he’s arguably one of the most emotionally unstable characters in the whole series
kakashihatake454 EXACTLY!!! ヽ(`Д´)ノ
You should do ACOTAR funny one star reviews!
that was fun to listen to Elle, thank you. how is round 1 of your beta readers going? you are the Best Elle, I love the one star reviews episodes.
Thanks! And it’s going amazing 😄😄😄 Thank you for asking :D
What website are you on I need to read these!
I REALLY TRIED to love Harry potter
I wanted to like it cuse everyone else did... It didn't work, really, it wasn't "boring" (though the plot holes in the 3th book could sink a ship. edit: @4:48@ I don't like Harry Potter like her, but this girl....
she's nuts.
The first one's got a point tho haha
I was crying with anger and laughter...
Bahahaha muggles are funny
Harry Potter is my favourite book-series of all time, it's my childhood. But even I think that some of these comments are pretty acucrate.
😂. This was so funny hahaha.
LMFAO THAT HOLY ONE
Poor Harry, I still like you though ^_^
And a quick FYI original title is Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, not Philosopher's Stone...sorry if this hurt someone...but...just...yeah.
It's British
Okay the one deal with the devil is the best :D but actually didn't Catholic church really ban Harry Potter? People have way too much free time
Oh, idk! Haha, and yes, when I showed that one to the hubby he thought it was amazing. We’re pretty sure it’s a joke, but either way it’s amusing 😆
Elliot Brooks ah you are such an optimist, I actually am pretty easily convinced it might be real :D
Nope it wasn’t banned. What happened was that someone in the Vatican made it seem like the pope john Paul 2 approved the books. They are just okay. They are entry level fantasy.
Oh God Elle, I hope.i dont wind up being one of those 1 star reviewers for Harry Potter, lol. Ive.never read the books, but saw one or.two.movies. I find it so amusing 🤣
:'D:'D This is sooo good!!
Hi good video!! Sorry not fan of Harry Potter... happy reading to everyone!! 😄📖
Well it’s a childrens book lol has anyone informed these people of that?
funny one star reviews for ACOTAR
Is Harry Potter part of the Witcher Universe?
One of the earlier reviews, quite long explaining how mediocre Harry is and how his friends carry him along so he never has to improve himself....kinda true put in that way. I've read the series once through and I enjoyed it but I'm definitely not a dedicated fan like most people.
I tried reading the first book in elementary school and I found it boring so I DNFed it. I also find the movies boring.
These were brilliant, some of the best I have heard. Soooooo funny
@suzannereadsforfun instagram, @SCattanes twitter xx
Harry Potter is so so so good though. ♥️😂
Anyways, people who hate these books do not talk about creating your own family, respecting others for who they are instead of what they are, killing should not be tour first instinct, sacrificing yourself for others, (pardon my shouting here) CHRISTIAN VALUEs.
Also, i did not het into these books until college so it is not just for kids.
Omg. I just proved some people’s argument about being too passionate about this series.
I do not approve of what JK Rowling is doing, but I have such a fondness for these books and the fandom helps me feel less alone.
I mean... i'm not the biggest fan of harry potter but, some of those revews were just dumb
Poop!
Poop.
