The metal beast at fort benning now fort Moore | jagdtiger 331 | armor and cavalry museum

This is jagdtiger 331 and this metal beast has a story to tell-Jagdtiger 331 was abandoned by it's crew along with Jagdtiger 323 in Neustadt, Germany in March of 1945 after both vehicles suffered damage to their final drives. The recoil cylinder was drained and a final round was fired to jam the 128 mm gun in full recoil and renderer it inoperable. It will be very good to see the 331 restored cosmetically and protected from the elements after 70+ years of sitting outside.

I've actually seen this vehicle, and climbed on it, when it was at Aberdeen proving grounds in Maryland. I found a photo of it taken in 1945 when it was surrendered. The unique shell damage was unmistakable. It should be restored.

That's a beast of an armoured vehicle..Ive climbed all over it while it was on display at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Aberdeen, Maryland..My father worked on base and I was always at the museum there..Inside and out,lol...

331 took 4 frontal hits 323 took on at least 6 front hits , 331 may have been abandon due to running out of ammo after pummeling the US army 1 final round to jam the gun back in recoil position

Just to provide accurate account. 331 was abandoned after a mobility kill to the port side final drive. At that time the TC gave the order to "spike" the gun and to abandon it and escape. The round to the mantlet did not jam it back.
This was done by draining the hydraulic recoil system and firing a round thus locking the gun back in full recoil and locking the breech open.
If you are able to join us at the next open house event I'll be happy to show you the hit that stopped it as, I am the volunteer usually at this vehicle and can be briefly seen at the beginning of this video.

I just hope they don't cut this one up for training purposes like the other tanks at fort benning. Training purposes or not these tanks need to be on display for the public. Id gladly pay to see them.

On those tanks that have had sections removed, that happened a loooong time ago, perhaps during WW2 or shortly thereafter. I don't think there's much risk of that happening again.
