Nothern Dancer your great great grandson is my horse, Gold Wag’n. You gave me the horse who cured my anorexia. Forever gratefull for your dynastie. Legends never die.
The greatest thoroughbred of all time, he was bred to be a champion, and he did not dissapoint, contrary his feats will never be duplicated, born a late foal may 27 1961, he won the FLAMINGO, FLORIDA DERBY, BLUE GRASS, KENTUCKY DERBY(track record), PREAKNESS, still a two year old, wins QUEENS PLATE, won the REMSEN, in 1963, his front right bothered him his whole life, but champions dont make excuses, breeding he changed the world of horse racing, trully a gift from the heavens, thank you DANCER.
Finally a great soundtrack to a thoroughbred video so sensible, the dancer was the greatest sire of the 20th century& a champion racehorse ,has the blood of the legendary Carbine...Aussie Fan.
Awesome horse. Thanks for making this video. I am going to keep it. I loved Northern Dancer. If you go to Woodbine in Toronto, there is an iron horse statue of Northern Dancer just outside the track...that says volumes and best of all he's was Canadian and his 3 white socks live on. :)
Northern dancer, you are my hero. Not for winning competitions. Just for giving me the Chance to live my dream. Nepomuk, youre Great-grandson helped me throug my panic disorder. I used to sit on horses crying bc I had panic attacks. Now I sit on a horse smiling Bc of him. You give me hope.
Yes Wez. Vincent O'Brien was a very key person in the future success of the Dancer as a stallion because of his success with a lot of these ones - espicially Nijinsky.
I agree on Bill Hartack - tried to kill 2 birds with one stone - relpy here. Thank You. The Dancer was my childhood hero - I was 11 when he won the Derby in '64. I followed the careers of a few of his sons and daughters until the late 70's then 2 years ago started researching his impact as a sire (after a 25 year break). it culminated in a book that will be published in a few weeks. When I finished the book I started playing with videos for the first time and threw this together.
Wow....you did a great job on this and it shows that you did your homework. As a long time horse lover and former groom.......this made my day. TY for a great video!
I missed the Queen's Plate today but checked as soon as I got home and the top 3 finishers were all descendants of Northern Dancer - not always the case in Canada's Plate.
Thanks Tink - picked the song off youtubes music after a copyright note on simon and garfunkel's sounds of silence which is what it was originally uploaded with. I love your "grave of the gypsy boy" song - it's beautiful. Thanks for your comments.
Fantastic history lesson there on the mighty Dancer and all her famous descendants, and as you say it's far from over just yet! Terrific video clip! Thanks again!
Wonderful Majestic Warior is a contender! both Bold ruler and Dancer are in his line and Secretariat! by the way Some of us think that the Americans don't like to be beat and Dancer should have won the Belmont. Hartack was not liked by all. Would not want to accuse him of cheating but I will always find it funny Dancer would race one last time and win so decidedly! I fell in love with the Derby at age 11 in 1964! Still love them.
The first photo is Northern Dancer but made black and white and grainy. Northern Dancer is My Horse 🐴 as My Mare Created for Me as an Olympic Equestrian for Team Canada 🍁 in 1988 when I was 20 years. Big Ben is King Robert Dundalk's Horse 🐴 created for Him as He was an Olympic Equestrian as well for Team Canada 🍁 in 1988. We both won Gold 🥇 and Team Canada won Gold 🥇 in Calgary Alberta Canada 🍁 Natalie Helferty Queen of Canada 🍁 Royal Chieftain of Indians of America Olympic Athlete
@Abid1974 Thanks for your feedback. You are absolutely right on Hurricane Run - He was horse of the year that year and won Prix and Irish Derby (not Epsom) my bad at that time. A few people have told me that was not Nijinsky in that photo but at the time a few of us were under the impression it was him. As for the great Invasor you are right again on his sire of sire but his sire Candy Stripes came from the great Lyphard broodmare Bubble Gum hence the connection to Lyphard.
I just loved the video even without music..it made me cry...I thought i was the only one that remembered Northern dancer LOL. What horses in the Derby and Preakness are descendants of dancer? I tried to investigate it but got so confused I gave up. I bet on Mine That Bird and Dunkirk yesterday ..never saw Summer Bird coming.. I nearly had a heart attack in the last leg of the Belmont yesterday awesome race...Please let me know about the Dancers descendants please..thanks :)
Thank You. The Dancer was my childhood hero - I was 11 when he won the Derby in '64. I followed the careers of a few of his sons and daughters until the late 70's then 2 years ago started researching his impact as a sire (after a 25 year break). it culminated in a book that will be published in a few weeks. @MrNativeDancer I think I was going in chronilogical order of the births of his firts generation. You are right in that Sadlers Wells could have been most like the old man and perhaps the greatest sire of his sons - 13 years atop Britain's sire list.
finally getting back to you - could not find gala girl but had heard of moscow society - he was pretty decent sire with one runner winning over1 million pounds but almost all best runners were gelded and a few good mares but couldn't see where they extended line with any success. Probably if not for Winnie Taylor the Dancer might have been gelded as well - he was a handful except for her and some children
I checked wikipedia~they have 416 PAGES of thoroughbreds related to Northern Dancer, described as the most successful sire in thoroughbred history~approx 62% of thoroughbred winning horses have the Dancer bloodline...no other horse comes near! He would have won the Triple Crown if not poorly ridden in the Belmont, IMHO...
This video was mede before the emergence of GALILEO. Son of Saddlers Wells, and now THE most prolific sire of all time. He must have 50 sons at stud. Maybe more. I do believe that in 2020's Derby, EVERY SINGLE runner had descended one way or another from Galileo. And most horses now are inbred to Northern Dancer several times over. The classic cross being SADDLERS WELLS (Galileo) x DANZIG (Danehill). Northern Dancer is in almost every pedigree.
Northern Dancer was the greatest sire of the 20th century'. He had the most impact on thoroughbred racing through out the WORLD and his sons and now grandsons have now carried out his legacy.
shoe rode dancer to win florida derby before kentucky but shoe's coice to ride the favorite hill rise in k derby - dancer had many jockeys in his 18-14-2-2 record.
agree on all counts - becomes really difficult to compare sires from different eras and how do you not consider sire of sires or grandsire of sires when you consider the great ones.
You are absolutely right. After 7,000 views you are the first to point out that error. Thank goodness my book was right. That is the first thing I checked. In my book I described 3 of the Montjeu offspring in a row - Hurricane Run, Motivator and Scorpion. In the book I correctly state Motivator winning the Epsom. I think I brushed over my own book too quickly when I did the video. Thanks - how did you pick up that mistake - are you connected to either Hurricane or Motivator? fab
Hi folks, a couple of problems I noticed after uploading 1) typos on Dubai Millennium and said son of Shareef dancer - actually grandson through daughter Colorado Dancer.
Thanks manf I should have responded with new version with Big Brown because I was able to add Makybe Diva's video clip of 2005 Cup win to that one as well.
"Thoroughbred" is a proper noun, should be capitalized as such. That being said, Northern Dancer and Seabiscuit were both undersized horses that no one expected to do much. Fooled them!
@XoSophieandEbonyoX According to his pedigree chart - Distant Diamond an Irish Bred colt who raced 5 times with 1 win. He has Northern Dancer blood coming in 3 times through Nijinsky once and Lyphard twice. Sire Distant Music has Lyphard on sire's side and Nijinsky on dam's side while dam Musicanti has Lyphard blood also.
wow u have a commitment to this horse.. i've never been interested in racing or racehorses, until i found out my new horse was born to be a racehorse (turned out to be not very good apparently). i recently that she's related to northen dancer and her damsire is lyphard... but i didn't know wat any of that ment lol
Northern dancer was probably Willy Shoemaker's one that got away.. he almost was about to ride him in one of the triple crown races and the owners picked someone else.. i bet til the day he died he regretted that he never rode him :(
yes, great statue and other tributes in hall of fame at woodbine. i still haven't checked belmont stakes this year but kentucky derby and preakness top 3 in each both descendants of dancer. apologies on music - i had 3 great simon and garfunkel tunes which i built video around - had to change music because of copyright issue. put a friends tracks to it on another video.
Thanks, it was my first ever attempt. I realized the day after I posted it that it should have said grandson of Shareef Dancer not son. I also realized I mispelt his name also.
Look, whoever gave a negative to my comment about Dancer being a boy NOT A GIRL here Wikipedia "Northern Dancer May 27, 1961 - November 16, 1990 was a Canadian-bred Thoroughbred racehorse and the most successful sire of the 20th Century. Out of this world.Beautiful memories. R. I. P
The Dancer has left a legacy that will probably never be surpassed

RIP Legend keep on running 💞😢😢😭😭
Excellent video! A fitting tribute to the Dancer!
Yes Wez. Vincent O'Brien was a very key person in the future success of the Dancer as a stallion because of his success with a lot of these ones - espicially Nijinsky.
@TicinoParadise Nijinsky was definitely the one that thrust the Dancer into the International spotlight and from there it just exploded.
I agree on Bill Hartack - tried to kill 2 birds with one stone - relpy here.

yes - he was instrumental in Northern Dancer's International impact and a great Champion.

thanks, I don't know if you saw it but the remix of this gets my audio back of race call(s) and more fitted music.
Now you do..you have a gem :) Lucky you , love your horse even more now :)
The GOAT sire.

Irish bred mare 1997 - not much showing up with siblings. Pips Pride did produce one very good mare in Pipalong 1996 stakes winner of 420,000 pounds.
I saw him win the Queens Plate and the Kentucky Derby I was 10 years old

I see Loxley 1999 gelding.
Actually double great grandad with Lyphard on your dam's side. Grand Dam Dedicated Lady produced some stakes winners.

Makes me so proud knowing i own one of his great grandsons :')

i've searched the net...
my horse name is Sea-Reef. Northern Dancer is "only" the great grandfather.
I checked wikipedia~they have 416 PAGES of thoroughbreds related to Northern Dancer, described as the most successful sire in thoroughbred history~approx 62% of thoroughbred winning horses have the Dancer bloodline...no other horse comes near! My favorite broodmare Sire.

SIGNORE, dammi un cavallo come Nother Dancer, figlio del lampo e degno di un re e che sia la bestia più veloce che ce. . . . Forza NIL

Can a ordinary thoroughbred with no special blood line can be a great race horse ?
becoz when it all started there was no blue blood....
Sire: Sedaka
Dam: Power of Place
Grandsire: Danehill
Granddam: Shadea
full sister siva had 1 solid grandson thru impulsive decision

Look, whoever gave a negative to my comment about Dancer being a boy NOT A GIRL here Wikipedia
