Wilco=articulated talent Daniel Johnston=Raw rip your heart out emotion motivated by nothing other than emotion. I've wanted to hear his songs done over by bands like Wilco and Beck, but after it happened I realized why it wasn't a good idea. Not saying I don't absolutely love Wilco or beck or pearl Jam etc. but they move me with their songs and Daniel destroy's me with his. I don't think anything polished will ever have that much pull on me. I can't even listen to him that much and really don't care much for his voice, but even before I knew who/what he was I was taken with his work. I almost equate the first time I was moved by his music with the ego-death I experienced on a mushroom trip.

I've been depressed for a long time. Sometimes I think about suicide too, but that's not the only solution. just try to love yourself the way you are. You have friends, family, many other people who love you and need you. They are reason for staying alive and I know one day you will find your love of life. Be a strong ♥ I'm with you

Johnston is a brilliant, childlike songwriting talent, but there's nothing fun about listening to a hulking manchild with a voice like an eight year-old boy singing folk songs. The versions by Beck and Wilco are stunning; bluntly, Johnston's is torturous. I love quirky performers as a rule, but Johnston is the only one I can think of who requires other artists to find the gold buried in the deep mines of his talent.

Disagree. Daniel's voice was emotional, yes, but Jeff's voice is stronger. Plus, I love the musical elements Wilco brings to it.
Johnston's version is still my favorite. Love his melancolic but hopeful style. But Wilco's is also a great effort to interpret a lovely song.
