No country is perfect. But after travelling quite a bit and also living (for a number of years) in different countries I think the Netherlands is a very good place to live. All the complaining is even a bit endearing. I've read some of the comments, and yes we have our problems. It's also easy to point out those outlier issues that were really bad to say our country sucks. But trust me, go live abroad for a bit and you'll see that we have a good life here.
Im form France, and moved on my own to Amsterdam (for work). That was 5 years ago, when I was 21. Lost that same job a year lol. But I stayed in Amsterdam bc I I loved it so much. Found a Dutch girl over a year ago now, and where looking for a home together now. In Amstelveen 10 min form Amsterdam. Love love love netherlands! Great video gang!
Isn't it funny that the harlem area in NY is actually named after Haarlem in the Netherlands when new york was still new amsterdam when it was created? Love your channel we Dutch are so used how things are done here that you don't even notice and we love to complain it's almost our national hobby :P It sometimes takes an outsider to show us how good we have it here and that instills a sense of proud. And we keep coming back to become even more proud it feels ... nice to hear positive news instead of the constant complaints.
Love your perspective, we have the same feeling, coming from No. Calif, this has been the best move we ever made. Funny, we found that connection you're talking about in Amsterdam. We moved here 8 years ago, but it was because my husband got fired from his job, no warning nothing, Friday everything was fine, got to work on Monday, he and 5 other people were met at the door by security guards who walked them to their desk, told to remove all their stuff and leave, that was it! This was a small company taken over by a big one and everyone lost their jobs, and at his age 58, there was nothing out there after looking for 3 months, he got an offer over here, and here we plan to stay, we love it, and feel blessed everyday! BTW, downhill or cross country skiing, and where do you go?
Skiing can be done in France, Swiss, Liechtenstein, Austria, Germany, Italy, Slovenia... and many more. Late in the season even outside the Alp region like the Ardennes.
An ex- colleague of mine (now pensioner) who has a Polish wife, and they had moving to Poland on their retirement plan. So they moved. Guess what?? Half a year later I ran in to them downtown and was astonished to see him and his wife, and I thought they just visited back briefly, but no, they came back. The reason? His wife was homesick.....to the Netherlands....LOL

I really enjoy your videos. I'd like to see you show off more of the Netherlands, though. The country is way more than Amsterdam and Haarlem. Why not show Maastricht, Leeuwarden, Delft, Groningen, the Hague, Middleburg, etc.
Culture gives a massive quality to life. Europe is old, bursting with culture. In a radius of 1000 km, you go from London to Paris, from Madrid to St Petersburg and the differences are huge. Alps, Wadden, oer Forest, desert, big cities, and small villages. Nothing is the same. I love different languages and cultures, and you pay with the Euro. So easy.
We have our problems. Those are unavoidable in such a small country. But I would never want to live anywhere else. @@ItzSKYVlogs That goes for the both of us ;-) I like the US (although to be honest, I would not like to live there, but that is just because I know how it is here). But the US has a lot of influence in the world and is one of our biggest trading partners. We will survive another 4 years, but I wish the americans a better future.
It's my sincere hope, as a Dutchman, that the rational voters in America will dominate and criminals will face the consequences of their actions rather than being rewarded
Talking about views on the city, did you ever bike / bus to “Kopje van Bloemendaal”? Between the dunes and Haarlem the town of Bloemendaal has the highest point of northern Holland with a small tower from where you can see Haarlem (and onwards) as well as the beach. There’s also a pancake restaurant right next to it.
The main thing that's a dealbreaker to me to move to the US is that seeming nationwide illness of unwalkable cities (tho it's tied with the whole gun thing but yknow). Like there are a few states that do it better like, I think, Minnesota(?), but man the idea of effectively NEEDING to drive to get to the shops, get to entertainment, get to work, etc. is an absolute dealbreaker to me
@ItzSKYlogs, I was wondering, how hard was it to immigrate? Was the language a big issue, it seems the main language is Dutch, did you have to learn the labors or was there a good English speaking community?
Almost ALL people speak English in Nederland. Maybe the elderly have a bit more problems with it, or they don't speak it. They grew up in a different time, in the old days you didn't learn English at every school. But now it's everywhere. Music, radio&tv, the internet, etc. In the school class (1st class after kindergarten) where you learn to read and write, you already learn your first English.

There are several people in my neighborhood that have American cars, I love seeing them. They usually use them in the weekends and on days off because, as you know, they're gasoline slurpers. 😉
in the 2000s the Netherlands thrived, since then its ridden with issues, they sold most the large businesses that supported the dutch economy, they alienated their own producers and farmers for cheap foreign foods and products. They created several issues with their uncontrolled immigration policies, creating a heavy tax weight for every working citizen, crashing the housing market by treating citizens last. While the government is selling houses and land to foreign investors by the millions, and give away free housing to immigrants who are under 0 pressure to start earning an income of their own or pay taxes. (years long) Which then also puts more strain on all the social services put in place to help citizens during hard times, now offering these services without wait to all immigrants, and dutch working citizens (paying taxes) will be put on hold for years while they spiral into homelessness or medical problems because the systems made for them, payed for with their taxes, now consider citizens the least important. (All that and nothing is being addressed, taken responsibility for, apologized for. but instead they are planning to expand all these things more, and continue to remove rights, privacy and benefits from citizens. The Netherlands is becoming America 2.0) (Edit: This isnt even at all in depth, the summary would be a book if i would go into depth.)
Actually the working city in the Netherlands is Rotterdam, not Amsterdam....And there is work all over the country.. Come visit Deventer, Kampen and Zwolle... Big old cities, but not too big... and not too old, if you want really old, Maastricht and Utrecht were started by the Romans, as is Nijmegen.
Yo Sky, you should visit some farm, like maybe a cow farm (don't go to a chicken farm) with some real Dutch farmers to get a tour through their farm and what they're doing. Because i'm curious what ur impressions will be of those rugged farmers 😸, especially because ur somewhat dark skinned, sorry i say that, but i think you know what i mean. And i think you will really will be plesantly surprised! Maybe do it when ur kid is a tat bit older. But then you get another, i think, real Dutch experience, in like seeing some other way how Dutchies are. 👍

I was always curious about how long it takes you to get to work with public transport. 15-17 minutes!?! Amazing! It takes me 30-35 minutes in my car. I wish we had the Dutch public transportation here in Detroit.
I'd rather watch election results than Bake Off, no matter who's in it. And not very particular to Dutch in British respected series anyhow. Like the ginger big mouth in Time Team? No matter how near perfect the accent is, the Dunglish always shines through like flies on a turd. Sorry, I get lyrical when drunk. Love the show! 🙃
I keep seeing your surprise when people look at you vlogging. It's simply because most people are of the opinion vlogging is dumb and looks ridiculous. You're also speaking English. So what the average Dutch think they see is an American tourist, with a camera shoved in his face, talking to the wind. And it's quite funny, because whilst I do enjoy watching your video's, I too think vlogging in public is both annoying for passerby's and makes you look weird.
Wait. So we weren't your 1st choice not the 2nd choice but the 3rd choice? I am offended....It's like you couldn't get the pretty girl, so you went for the next best thing and she wasn't interested, so you settled for the leftover... I am just playin, man. But you ain't much if you ain't Dutch. 😉
Sky, We all know the REAL reason why you moved to The Netherlands. It’s because here you can put honey in your cappuccino without people looking weird (if there is honey) And also.. people in the vid are looking at you because you are starting to become famous. BN’er in the making!

No matter how near perfect the accent is, the Dunglish always shines through like flies on a turd. Sorry, I get lyrical when drunk. Love the show! 🙃
4 years and English speaking... Have you learned any Dutch yet?
I keep seeing your surprise when people look at you vlogging. It's simply because most people are of the opinion vlogging is dumb and looks ridiculous. You're also speaking English. So what the average Dutch think they see is an American tourist, with a camera shoved in his face, talking to the wind. And it's quite funny, because whilst I do enjoy watching your video's, I too think vlogging in public is both annoying for passerby's and makes you look weird.
@@āuroseGT hahahaha yea I can see that! 😂
@@āuroseGT I just hope nothings on my face and no one’s telling me!! Hahahahah
There are different ways to go about vlogging, Sky hardly films any other people and when he does it's just background.
THE NETHERLANDS IS THE COUNTRY WITH MOST NORMAL PEOPLE ,YOU CAN FIND IN THE WORLD !!!!!
Well, it's certainly not normal to BOAST(!!!!!) about a country you were coincidently born into, without doing anything.
Nope Denemarken is ...
Totally normal statement this😂
Haarlem
It’s because here you can put honey in your cappuccino without people looking weird (if there is honey)
And also.. people in the vid are looking at you because you are starting to become famous. BN’er in the making!
The World in his whole is great. Travel and find out your planet. Only people can make it bad.
Love the videos except the parts where you keep telling us your being axed. I guess people ask alot from you but why would they want to Axe you?
Sssssssst, don't tell everyone.
We tried to move the same way, but it didn't work out for us. Do you have any advice for someone wanting to make the move over there as well?
How to spot the Dutch, find a sunny terras! 🤣👍

Yeah if you like Rotjeknor, you definitely love of the rest of the nederlands
You’re slowly turning into a celebrity over there, give it another year and you need a disguise 😅
