I am a metalcore/deathcore vocalist. I am also a severe burn victim as a result of a suicide attempt with gasoline 11 years ago, April 8th 2013. I have taken the long road to get here.. But I learned alot along the way. I understand the tragedy of sin and corruption in a very deep way. All I want is to use this experience to help others avoid the pitfalls I fell into. As well as leave a beaten path for others in horrible places to follow out of that space and into the light. God bless you all.

    • @bruhbbawallace
      @bruhbbawallace 2 месяца назад +2

I think the only thing holding the Church back in the west was the language barrier. The first book about orthodoxy to be published in english didn't come until 1968. Now, there are an ever growing number of english sources, and parishioners are spreading orthodoxy exponentially further via word of mouth. I live in the south, the stronghold of the baptist church, and yet my orthodox parish stands at over 300 members, which is more than just about any baptist church I've ever been to. Once someone is presented with the truth and beauty of God's Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church, it's impossible to stay apart from it.

    • @Anonymous-rg3ud

It both makes sense and doesn’t. As someone who comes from the West, when it comes to Americans, think of them as the seeds in rocky soil, with little to no roots. They are starving. They are dying. They are far removed from culture, have broken family lives, addiction problems, etc.The “rocks” are more familiar to them, so they return to sin over and over again. It’s hard to find earth when you’ve never known it, your parents have never known it. But you are so thirsty for water, so hungry for food at the same time. But a food that is unknown to you.

When I was about 14 or 15 I got heavily into the heavier flavors of rock music. Sleep quickly became a favorite. I believe reading Sleep's wikipedia page might have been the first time I read the words "Eastern Orthodoxy" when it talked about Justin Marler leaving the band.
Flash forward to many years later and after discovering Orthodoxy through a completely different series of events and circumstances I came into the Church. About a year into my Orthodox journey I came across Death to the World and Justin's site "Unseen Warfare" and it all came full circle.

I personally believe that recently St. John of San-Fransisco has found me, not the other way around. I was praying to God for my friends in Ukraine and everything that's going on there.
In a few days I found out about St. John of San-Fransisco and decided to watch a documentary on his life.
Turns out, he was born in a town that is not far away from my hometown (Donetsk region in Ukraine, where the war is going on right now). Then he lived in China (I was also studying Mandarin Chinese and am drawn to their culture). Then he moved to the USA, I moved to Canada and living here right now. He also helped orphans throughout his life, and my heart also always had compassion towards all the kids and I was thinking about helping orphans in some way. I was shocked and immediately understood that it was him, who found me as the answer to my prayer, or God has sent him to me :) Glory to God Almighty!

@@LovingtheTruth856 I understand it sounds a bit provocative if misunderstood, but here the quote from St Isaac the Syrian that explains why they chose this name. I think it's a very clever name for an orthodox zine :
“The world” is the general name for all the passions. When we wish to call the passions by a common name, we call them the world. But when we wish to distinguish them by their special names, we call them passions. The passions are the following: love of riches, desire for possessions, bodily pleasure from which comes sexual passion, love of honor which gives rise to envy, lust for power, arrogance and pride of position, the craving to adorn oneself with luxurious clothes and vain ornaments, the itch for human glory which is a source of rancor and resentment, and physical fear. Where these passions cease to be active, there the world is dead…. Someone has said of the Saints that while alive they were dead; for though living in the flesh, they did not live for the flesh. See for which of these passions you are alive. Then you will know how far you are alive to the world, and how far you are dead to it.”

And also at Seraphim, but I think the tradition is stronger and probably more, and I use this word probably inaccurately, militant at St Seraphim. I could be wrong and may be wrong for even saying such a thing. I think you’ll find many blessings and growth at Seraphim, but as you walk in the way in any Orthodox Church, you will grow spiritually. May it be blessed. ☦ Hi. Others will answer you here. I will just say that the Orthodox Church, founded on Pentecost when Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to the Apostles (and others there with them in the upper room), and they went out and preached that Jesus is the Son of God Who came into the world and was crucified for the sake of all of us, and rose from the death, and ascended to Heaven, is the same CHURCH today that it was then, and teaches the same Gospel which St. Peter and the Holy Apostles preached on that Pentecost so long ago. Yes, JESUS IS THE SON OF GOD! And the Church still proclaims it to this very moment. !

Most churches preach that message. EO isn’t special they just have lots of bells and whistles. How a Christian practices their faith is between them and God. Not between them, a Church, and them God.
You yourself have a personal relationship with God and that’s your business. The Pentecostal has their relationship with God too. Etc. we are all on a path searching for deeper relationship with God except there are people who claim that they are correct and everyone else s as liar. Are you one of those individuals?

."i believe in ONE, HOLY, CATHOLIC, and APOSTOLIC CHURCH..", we say as we recite the Nicene Creed..
(Although, as you know, rome took the term "catholic" for its own purposes, so the eastern churches took the name ORTHODOX, (right believing, right teaching) as ITs name.. even though IT still recites the Creed as it was written. And still confesses the word "CATHOLIC" for itself as having been given the fullness of the Faith which makes it able to respond to any need.
The issue is whether or not this CHURCH founded on Pentecost, and still teaching the TRUTH of the Gospel in its fullness, even as it might 'look' different from the early church that was hiding in caves and catacombs, is still the True church.
We have many reasons to believe that the Orthodox Church REALLY is the repository of TRUTH.
The ORTHODOX CHURCH has ample reason to assert that it holds to this very moment the Faith begun at Pentecost so long ago.
That there isn't any daylight between that Church and the Church we call Orthodox today.
The issues, as i have said before, is how do these religious groups that you talk about confirm their teachings to the historic Church? And if they don't do that, why not? And, if they don't do that, why be a part of them?
As i have said before, in most situations in our world we WANT to know the Truth. We WANT a standard by which to measure things.
Why should this be any different? ☦📿💝📿☦

@@lindaphillips4646 the standard of Truth of course is Jesus-God as understood and measured by reason and common sense. For instance that God does not call women to the priestly service makes absolutely no sense to me other than being a manner of discrimination based on gender and “sanctioned” by God.
You have a personal relationship between you and God which I am sure is intensely personal and intimate. So does every other true seeker after Christ led by the movement of the Holy Spirit.
Now if we are in need of a pedigree line to feel secure then that’s between you and God. I believe God is present in the forward movement of history whose infinity we are only experiencing in a way that is sufficient for us.
We do look for truth and a way to measure it in all areas of life I agree. That’s a great observation but how we experience that truth in the spirit realm I am not convinced is to be a card carrying member of an organization regardless of its antiquity. Hinduism is older than EO but does that mean that a goddess lives in the Ganga River? Maybe if you’re a devout Hindu. See where I am going? Antiquity is not a standard of truth so I’d be leery to hold to it as a standard.
As a Christian I walk daily with Our Lord and seek to bring his Love and Healing to every situation I encounter. To me that is a reasonable application of Love of God and Love of neighbor.

Im new to all of this . Please forgive me if my question was rude . Because ive seen in muslim they believe that Jesus Christ was a prophet . And he will return again . But Christians view is that he is god in human form . But in the bible its said jesus prayed to god etc .

Jesus is the Word of God. Another name for Him is the Son of God.
These are titles to distinguish Him from the Father although they are one. The Father is in the Son and the Son is in the Father.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

John, i just left a comment that i thought would be placed under your question, but it just ended at the top for some reason..
I will let others also answer your question, but the ORTHODOX CHURCH understands that GOD, exists as the Holy Trinity in 3 Persons, as the FATHER, and the SON, and the HOLY SPIRIT. "Of one essence."
      Separate persons but together.
There are many good videos and books about this.
JESUS, as the SON OF GOD, was and is of One Essence with the FATHER, but is a separate person.. even before HE took human form. HE is the SON Whom GOD, the FATHER, sent into the world for our sakes.
The special hymn sung for the Feast of the Baptism of JESUS by ST.JOHN the BAPTIST, in the Jordan River, speaks about this belief/ truth about this Holy Trinity this way:
"When Thou, O, Lord, wast baptized in the Jordan, the worship of the Trinity was made manifest, For the voice of the FATHER bear witness to THEE, and called THEE His Beloved SON, And the SPIRIT in the form of a dove confirmed the truthfulness of His words.
Oh, CHRIST GOD, WHO hast revealed THYSELF, and has enlightened the world, GLORY TO THEE!!!".
These may be stories you have never heard before and i am sure that you have never heard the hymn before, but i send them to you as a way to start to explain what the CHURCH teaches. And the foundation upon which it is built..☦📿💝💝📿☦

I have one hitch, many of my friends and loved ones are gay. I am not but I also do not want to denounce these folks as evil nor do I think they are. Sometimes when I hear Fr. Trenham talk I feel like I could never embrace Orthodoxy because he tends to open up a more hateful side to the religion. He uses terms like devils and demons to talk about individuals and I do not like that. Does anyone share similar feelings? Can anyone offer guidance? Thank you.

I don't personally recall ever hearing Fr Josiah refer to any human beings as demons, and if he did, I think that if pressed he would have to clarify that, of course, all humans are image bearers of God and are not demons, although they may tragically be influenced by demons, as most all of us are to one extent or another.
I would encourage you to, first of all, not acquire too much of your perception of Orthodoxy from online apologists. We have to expect, as it is unavoidable in our extremely chaotic and confused time, that many people are going to respond with an exaggerated dependence upon order and legalism - this *always* happens when things are in flux, because it provides a semblance of stability. The core of Orthodox Christianity however is radical love and non judgement and a hope for the salvation of all. People are extremely confused and are looking for some comfort anywhere they can find it. If they have never experienced the love and grace of Christ and His Holy Spirit how can we expect these people to abandon what they see as the only opportunity for hope and comfort for something they have never seen and don't believe in?? We should never condemn anyone, especially those outside the Church who are simply confused. Saint Paul called for Christians to pray for and respect the Roman Emperors who were actively persecuting them. They believed they were under the control of demons and worshipping false gods but they still desired their salvation as children of God made in His image.
Saint Silouan famously said to a judgemental monk who was revelling in the future condemnation of atheists to hell: "Love could not bear that - we must pray for all." This does not mean that *all will or must be saved*, that choice lies only with each person themselves, but we must fervently pray with pain of heart for the salvation of every person. Homosexuality is wrong as it is an aberration of God's creation, but we must love and pray for all people struggling with sexual disorder. I struggle with pornography. I come to Confession. I don't need to be perfect to participate in the Church - it is through participation in the Church that we move towards perfection.

The reason why Jesus Christ told them to "call no man father" was to say don't be obsessed with titles. Because if you were to take it literally. You cannot call your biological father, father, or any step(adopted) father, father,
Also St Paul refers to himself as a Spiritual Father. Which is also what the Priests refer to themselves as.
      1 Corinthians 4:15
For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet ye have not many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the Gospel.

'World', i must tell you that i wish that paul below your question had not been quite so sharp in his response.
But i believe he is also earnest in his effort to confirm the true and special place of the Orthodox Church in our world.
There ARE valid reasons why the ORTHODOX CHURCH considers that those outside it who reject it are heretics. IT offers something that none of them can give. It is the repository of TRUTH about such things. When the CHURCH speaks strongly at times about such subjects, IT does it to plead for those who have left the Royal Path to return to it.
We DO NOT know how the LORD will judge them in due time. But we know that HE is a righteous judge, Who, as i saw a comment recently said, is on our side..
The usual counsels that i have heard about this issue are that we must seek to secure our own salvation and let the Lord handle the others. (Which does not mean that i gloss over heresies, some of which are abhorrent. )
We believe and experience the ORTHODOX CHURCH as a treasure and gift from GOD and we long for everyone, everywhere to become a part of IT.
