      @@mwolkove isnt that when most tombs got robbed though? They were digging up so many people were using them to make ink or using broken mummies as firewood if they got cold in the desert after robbing tombs.

    Suggestion the Aztec Mummies and Inca Mummies. The ones with the Children wrapped and found on mountain tops are rather interesting. Also given Laura Davies descriptions of Lady of Dai with things like "The bodies were not found floating in a hearty broth and her skin is soft, subtle and plump" she will be a perfect fit for some Casual Criminalist stories.... 😂

      That’s because her body was not preserved very well after exposure to air. Her body rotten immediately . When people just dug her body out, it’s extremely well preserved

    Search the term 'St Bees man'. A 600 year-old English knight buried in a lead coffin and with pitch covering his shroud. He was well preserved when found, but soon deteriorated.

      I once sat through a lecture by the archaeologist who found him. I never saw so many people looking down to write notes so they didn’t have to look at the slides…..😲

I just remember how she started the talk 'well, we'd all heard stories of people accidentally making a hole in lead coffins and horrible things coming out, so we gave the students a shovel and told them to get on with it'

      @@susanross1651 If I remember correctly the church insisted he be returned to the graveyard. He was reburied after a few days ?3 The lecture I went to mentioned they had discussions with the Vicar about the form of service as he was a pre reformation Catholic and the Church is now Anglican

    I discovered Lady Dai through Ask a Mortician. I had feeling you would do a video about her. She's a really interesting mummy. Bog Bodies are still my favorite but she's right after them along with the Chinchorro. 😊

    If Simon didn't want to be frozen, I think he'd want to be buried like this... being such a pain in the ass for everyone involved! Though I can picture it now... 2,000 years later, Fact Boy will still be educating people. Beard a little worse for wear, but otherwise in tact.
    It is an incredible feat, regardless of what one may think of the practice. The body was yet to go through rigor mortis as the bloating from the organs decomposing hadn't seized the joints yet. Contrary to popular belief, rigor mortis isn't permanent but lasts for around a week.

    I watched a documentary on her before and it was really fascinating. the whole genre on chinese mummy documentaries are amazing tho (the part where they cut them open is disgusting tho)

    Bamboo charcoal has remarkable qualities for preserving organic matter. Perhaps they have overlooked it's function here. Making bamboo charcoal also produces bamboo charcoal vinegar which is said to have almost magic actions.. perhaps it is the liquid.

    Had an interesting thought regarding the wax model of how she appeared when alive. When discovered, did she actually look that good? Many times during the video Simon mentioned how she decomposed when exposed to air and I'm not certain how the current, decomposed version could be recreated in the form of the model.

    Ive seen a documentary on this mummy. Absolutely fascinating. There actually was another wet mummy discovered shortly after her and not too far away also in China.

      That's the body of Sui Xiaoyuan, a magistrate who died in 167 B.C at age 60. His body was unearthed in 1975 and was found in nearly the same condition as Xin Zhui (his body was dyed red from the coffin fluid)

    While not unknown, death from cardiac problems was not diagnosed as such until lately. Most medical records would classify it as "sudden death" on a death certificate, or note it as such in statistical studies. Heart disease was still not a common form of death, unlike today where it is the #1 cause of death in America.

    There was a medical article that stated giving a patient who had ulcerative colitis that if they where infected with whip worms it was found to cure the illness once cured the worms where killed off and it seemed to cure the illness.

      Decomposition happening. The lips basically shrivel away and the skin gets pulled back to the skull giving that mummy that look. If you see pictures of Lady Dai when she was first studied, it's nowhere as bad as that.
