Also! Put down your suggestions for singers for the upcoming episodes of this series below.
Other preserved voices in my opinion are Sir Mick Jagger, Petula Clark, Buddy Guy, Gladys Knight, Cher, Steven Tyler, David Gilmour, Joe Williams, Cab Calloway, Frank Sinatra, Nona Hendryx, Sarah Dash, Diana Ross, Barbra Streisand
I'm disappointed that I've never heard of Vivian Reed , she's such a phenomenonal vocalist who managed to preserve her voice and range
She's also a wonderful dancer.

@@KajiVocals Thank you
Maybe the reason(s) why is/are because she 1) refused to "sellout & sacrifice" for success and 2) the muSICK industry ONLY promotes & pushes ONE female voice at a time. Several labels may have their "it" girl who is in competition vs their challengers for said all-hallowed title of " the QUEEN of...". Ultimately it will still just be 1 & 1 only. Usually they also must ditch their former genres of music they can sing & sing well for promoting POP(ULAR) music because it has "crossover" ( read WHITE) appeal. That =s more $ generated. Sad but true.

Donna Summer should be on this list. At age 50 her voice and range were still as agile, strong and capable as they were when she was in her 20's. A remarkable achievement for someone who toured so often and extensively.

Shirley Bassey is just amazing. Her technique at her prime is just WOW even at her age....

The fact Magda is 96 and is still singing with a good powerful Hv just proves if u actually take the time to work on ur voice and take care of it, U will be good for a long time (if ur even given a long time. The fact she lived till 96 is impressive)

I’m amazed at how Shirley produces notes that open when she’s lifting her tongue in some of these clips. She must have one powerful diaphragm.
I agree. It doesn’t make sense to me at all.
But that is tongue retraction and this is a classical technique used by operatic tenors for depth and squillante sound??? she actually is doing it exactly for the reason you do not understand...Open, fat, big chiaroscuro sound with a lot of squillo....This is actually the ways real big tenors belt..

I’d have to respectfully disagree. It HAS aged … but that’s the beauty of it. We get to enjoy so many more colours and nuances of this incredible vocal.

I do not hear the similarities in their voices.
@@ajaycbaby8837 their are clear similarities with their vowel shaping, phrasing and enunciation...Whitneys biggest influence where Dionne and Aretha but I hear more of Vivian and Dionne in her by far
Whitney was more influenced by Dee Dee Warwick than Dionne @Odumosu Listen to Thank God from Dee Dee live.
I'm a singer now in my mid sixties. When I turned 60 my voice began to loose the range and vocal dexterity. So I very much appreciate these singers of such longevity. Actually what is a stronger superlative than, incredible. The term doesn't quite do them justice!
Part Two now uploaded!
Patti seemed to achieve more ease in her beiting as she entered her 40s which is outstanding
I do not think so. She changed her technique, too obvious
@@odumosuolusegun2781 what’s your point? Changing technique during your career is normal
@@jestiny My point is clear. She sang with a different coordination in the 60s, less high belting because her coordination was different. In the 80s and up she implemented twang, forward placement and aryepigllotal narrowing when she belted. The result was more high larynx and a mix after f5/ G5 which she hardly used earlier. She belted fully in M1 coordination in her earlier career (chest) , later she incorporated the mix in M2 which gave the impression of ease...
Celine is another example although not as successful as Patti .. Celine in her earlier career was more M1 now she is more M2. But her chest voice at the moment is thinned out immensely..
@@odumosuolusegun2781 More ease through different technique, we're saying the same tbing
@@odumosuolusegun2781 i think she should had kept her 60s technic it sounded more round but she’s a great singer 👩🎤

Patti labelle is literally my favorite dramatic soprano of all time 🥳 The power, ease, range, and consistency she has is other worldly.
She is NOT a dramatic soprano! Don’t be fooled by the size of her head voice. It is big for pop but quite small compared to a real dramatic soprano.

I just love Shirley Bassey. She and Celine Dion on my all-time favorites. I always felt her full power started coming into fruition in her 30s. And this video proves it. As for Celine, I see an argument below that her voice is no longer as good as it used to be because of a technique that seth Riggs taught her… Well I think that her voice itself has still been well preserved even if the technique isn’t so great. If this technique is a danger to her voice, then she should stop it, but she definitely has enough voice left in her to thrive once she switches to a better technique.
What you meant to Celine is using twangy head mix?
Celine is my all-time favorite too!
I'm her huge fan, it's kinda sad for me because she lost powers in her mid belts, i don't care about her upper belts and i wish she would bring back her old technique with her strong chest voice and powerful mid belts.

Can’t nobody outdo Dame Shirley Bassey. The longest career with the best preserved voice 🏴
Part Two now uploaded!
Incredible Video. They are not on the list, but I believe that Rachelle Ferrell and Lisa Fischer also have absurd techniques and preserved their voice very well even at age 60 (57 for Rachelle and 62 for Lisa). For me, they deserved to be on the list for sure. Two vocal beasts. Maybe part 2 :)
Lisa no. her voice is very constricted now
Bud to those of you who think that she can not belt with a free and open throat in her chest voice, I do think there are performances that she’s done in the last decade that you have not seen. She can still do that. Listen to her “that’s just the woman in me album“ “taking chances“ album and era. Particularly her concert in Quebec in 2008 where she sang “un peu plus haut un peu plus loin”.
Rachelle actually turned 60 in May. The last times I heard her, her singing was very unfocused - it was a mess, so I have no idea what shape her voice is in now.
Lisa Fischer is 63 years old today 😊❤️🎂
@@odumosuolusegun2781 Not at all. She only has lost range in high notes.
On the next list, please include Karen Clark Sheard. She has actually gotten better over time, it’s pretty crazy. Shes in her 60’s now, and she’s been performing since the 70’s
Part Two now uploaded!
Karen was better in the 80's. She just does more runs now because belting and growling is harder to do. Karen get caught up in trying to sing out of her range and gets messy a lot of times. Over the years she has taken more risk with her runs, but she also gets annoying live. Once she went solo her style and technique change a lot.....Cece winans is a perfect example of longevity and technique. Cece sounds about the same as she did when she was younger. Cece does not attempt some of the higher notes she ise to slay, but she still sounds amazing.
@@ajaycbaby8837 This is exactly why I wanted them to put her in the video, because what you said is simply not true. Karen is still hitting notes in the heavens and growling like no ones business. She simply added echoes, whistle notes, and the craziest runs to her roster.

Vivian Reed holy shit. Thank you for this invaluable resource.
This is a theory of vocal development that I admire and have fought against institutions (classical voice in college) to study. When you develop your vocal muscles chest and head, you’re voice endures well into your 90s and there is evidence of this with so many singers. If your voice goes to shit when you age that means you were abusing your voice box.
Of course people say it’s talent and every body is different. And while that is true, we generally have the same muscles. Like most people with an arm have a bicep and so on. And so this theory simplifies singing in the development of ones voice muscles. Although that’s not the most simple process as I believe it’s not only physical but spiritual, mental, emotional.

Shirley Bassely is one of may favourite vocalists ❤❤
Shirley’s transformation over the years was so dramatic. In her 20s, she had such a girly feminine tone overall. Then throughout her 30s and early 40s, her voice got MUCH bigger and the tone was much deeper overall. And this seemed to continue gradually from then on throughout the rest of her life. Her later years voice is so different from early career voice, but is still so well preserved.

The only thing about Shirley Bassey's magnificent voice is she can't really do the quiet stuff anymore. I think videos like this are super important to break this prevalent myth about singers that has taken hold within our society.
That is that after a certain age singers just automatically “lose” their voices as if by magic and it is ridiculous to expect a singer in her 50s to be able to sing as well as she could in her 20s. As if the kind of vocal decline we now see is somewhat natural.
Videos like this break that error of thinking. Hopefully it will mean careers that go on longer as people learn how to take care of their instruments.
