Great breakdown. I think it’s surprising the lack of awareness that people have to “marketing”. I first came across this with firearms “reviews”. Something I struggle with, is seeing guys “collecting” knives or what ever that is just poorly made Chinese junk, it’s their choice, but how “influenced” were they. I think our society has a big reflecting point coming down the line, in terms of hyper materialism and just having “stuff”. If nothing else: comment for le algorithm.
Yeah it's definitely not talked about near enough and during the holiday season the amount of greed is absolutely insane and I have seen quite a few "creators" trying to capitalize on uneducated buyers trying to find gifts for their loved ones for the holidays and it's just gotten to an absolutely disgusting level recently and I wanted to talk about it. Thanks Red! I’ve been quietly watching your stuff for a while and thanks for all the great content! I think many of us in the EDC community can easily spot what’s what. I think there are some people in the community who do a much better job of being upfront. While there are many that do exactly what you say it’s certainly not everyone. Keep in mind us viewers like the content, we want you to make more, we want you to make money for it, we get it! The likes and shares and comments to help boost your videos and help you make more money is OK by us. Shilling some stuff but being upfront is also ok. Just be honest and you won’t have any issues.
what was once a thing of hobbist became a business driven thing as a RUclips channel and it turns people into greedy scumbags and the reality is most knives should be at least half of their price if the knife hobbist wasn't allowing themselves to be hustled by content creators and manufacturers. How is it a SAK Spartan is still $20 on Amazon forever and made in a very expensive place but other stuff can be over twice the price it was 5 years ago and it's made in Asia with slave labor ? the buying public is getting bamboozled by by story narratives and most content creators aren't about being forthright because they fear subscriber lose and loosing free merch from companies. I have seen the same thing going on in the Cigar and Bourbon RUclips world and it's a mirror image of these vultures that refuse to be truly honest. It's all half truths now to appease the subscribers and companies and if you call it out you instantly get labeled a hater and or troll. This is the grand cop out to get away with anything and nobody should say a word, Too many people are enamored by social media and overtly entertained by it as they are allowing themselves to be influenced and be consumer suckers and just by the story they are being fed. Don't get me started on the echo chamber that is RUclips / social media and it's redundance of appeasers make sure they are playing the game in order to profit. Forthright honesty will not be excepted as such because true consumer advocates are monikered as haters and trolls . Sorry for the rant but it's all become too much about the business for my liking
All of this is exactly why i unsubscibed to 99% of all youtube knife channels. Nome of it means anything. Its just a bunch of grifters trying to avoid real work and saying whatever necessary to sell said porduct. RUclips is a clown show and i refuse to be a party to this nonesense. In fact, this one or the first edc reoated vids ive watched in a year, and thats only out of morbid curiosity. And the edc video community isnt the only one doing this horseshit. No content can be trusted as "organic".
