They had a common law marriage and had to declare it so that Emy could live in Canada. Emy's from New York and they had to declare marriage so that they could get her through immigration. They never had a formal ceremony, but for all intents and purposes, they were "married"
it was in one of the recent interviews. the interviewer asked her about emy's break up and the person asked if she was going out with anyone else and Sara said something like "i did find a new girlfriend and we've been together for about a month now." and she said that she is still friends with Emy. it's sad cuz youtube wouldn't let me post it up. i dunno why it does that shit.
She has a tiny lisp. Like you'd never notice it in person, but you can sort of hear it in some bootlegs. A mixture of mics or something has made this sound realy strong. I head a different version of this same gig and she doesn't really seem to have one...

@InterviewsWithDomo No, they were never married, but like amazingpony said, they were together for a long time. It was a bit like a common-law marriage. Also, nightwatch is about Tegan and Sara's parents' divorce, not Emy's and Sara's.
i loved sara and emy together.. but it's basically like they're still together. emily is always around making the merch and shit. they get off really well and that's cool that they can still be around each other after being in a relationship for that long. i envy that about them, actually.
