  • I haven't seen much in the way of people just giving an overview of the Onan systems so you can make a better determination on if it's something you want to fix yourself or take in to a service person. Here are my initial findings / discovery of the basic systems, where they are and how complicated it is to take the generator out of your RV.

Hi Mike.....just wanted to say that your video was one of the best on showing the Onan 2800 ML genny. Having just removed mine, I going thru trying to get mine to stay running !!! Well done .

A few things. There is a gasket on the carb flange that goes to the air filter housing. Yours is missing. Mine has a grounding strap at the back of the motor to the gen housing. The control board, the regulator, or low oil sw are the three main problems when it won’t start unless holding the start sw. which there are tests you can do to isolate the problem. Flight Systems has a troubleshooting guide on their website. Good job on vid!👍🏼

So what is the fix for the no run after releasing the start switch?

Thank you for this video, will have a second look at my unit. Lost a screw holding the choke housing onto the exaust/manifold and now I'm having issues getting it back on correctly. Starts but won't run.

Great video, about where i left off. Mine doesnt make volatge, runs great 30 seconds and shuts down, safety protection shit down. Think its either brushes need cleaning or a new voltage regulator. The brushes are buried, like complete diassaembly and special tools to acess em. Voltage reg is 100s of $$. I have a Xplorer, very similar to Roak Trek.

Hi Mike...first off, thanks for posting your video. I am having trouble keeping my Onan 2800 MicroLite genny running. It starts and runs as long as I hold the start switch down, once released genny immediately dies. I'd like to replace that main circuit board with start/stop switch and well as voltage regulator (any electrical parts I can replace while unit is out) For what a shop would charge to possibly fix unit I could replace ALL electrical parts for less than a repair shop would charge. My main question is how to remove that main panel that contains s/s switch, circuit board and 120volt /25 amp circuit breaker. your video show the 2 screw holds but not actually removing it. I've bench tested genny, it produces 120 volt power out put but won't stay running after s/s switch is released. I'd appreciate a video or instructions on how you removed panel that contains circuit board. Again thanks for your video and help...Ken

Great video, learned a lot ! Im not getting fuel to my carb even when I run the start button fuel should come out of carb hose. I'm wondering what is the 5amp fuse for on the side of the start button box. Any chance its for the fuel pump ? Right now the gen is turning over with the starter but not fuel starved

Could definitely be the fuel pump, just replaced mine

You did not indicate if you were successful in starting the generator. Did it run and stay running under a load? I have the same generator and have repaired it 3 times. It is unreliable, consistently a problem for many Road Trek owners. Mine currently runs when it feels like it then quits. There is a newer pricier version but installs differently. You would think they would design it to pull one out and put in a new one without modifications. Logic is completely out the window in this high tech world.

Not sure but junked up carburetors cause that type of problem
