Building a sliding shop door. Components and installation ideas and tips.

Hardware and components needed to build a sliding or rolling shop or barn door. This was build with 2 goals: Cheap, and light weight.
The bottom requires a fold. Grade prevents a full door from sliding , and removing 18 inches of soil is bad for a pole barn.
A flashing should go up to prevent the box channel from filling up with pine needles.
Simple and cheap solutions.
2 - 12 foot box channel. $75 ea
4 rollers, $20 ea
8 hangers, $4 ea
5 - 8 foot by 3 foot metal siding. $38 ea
7 - 12 foot 2x4 @ $9 ea

Great job! As I was watching you guys install the door I'm like man only thing they need is a way to hold the flap up, then next thing I know I see you pull the cable to flip it up and hold it haha. I'll def be building one very similar for my garage! Thank you!

Coastal farm and ranch had them. Home Depot didn't have them, nor ever heard of them! They only had interior closet barn doors.

I’ve seen nylon or plastic rollers that seem like a good idea - wondering if the steel rollers are required for a heavier door.

Many of the plastic style are for interior barn doors, like closet doors.
