I paddled the medium and in the end I bought a small ReactR mainly as I felt the Medium was too big even though I was 20KG over the max recommended weight and was blown away with how much fun it was and liked how it felt similar in width to my medium scorch. However... last weekend we ran some higher grades and although it skipped and pivoted like a dream, the smaller backside really played havoc with stability and edge control across the flow - even with the seat all the way forward and ditching kit. So reluctantly... I sold it and bought the medium. I've shimmed it right up and still need to add another custom seat shim to get me tight on the thigh hookers, but actually it was pretty good last night and i can see it working. Not sure if its just a mental thing, but it feels like the medium edges in a more controlled manner on the carve and rolls as easy the small to a point.. can't hand roll the medium. In summary I would pay attention to Pyranha and stay within the ranges ;) Hope this helps someone stuck on the boarder of Small vs Medium.
I demoed the medium the other day. I wish they’d kept it the same width as the scorch. It was just a little wider than I prefer. Seems like it placed the knees a little lower and wider than the scorch and it wasn’t quite as good edge to edge as the scorch because of that width. But it paddled really well. Very responsive and easy to get it anywhere on the river. Loose hull. Comfortable new outfitting. I just feel like the Scorch was a great creek boat and of the major brands with multiple sizes it was like the narrowest creek boat on the market and they totally ditched that and made essentially the widest creek boats on the market. I will say that despite the sizing it doesn’t paddle like a big boat
Don’t disagree but width gives you stability and in class 6 you never want to flip. Sizing has moved up which was actually good for me and others as the small was a true small/medium and the small on the scorch was smaller than an actual small.
