How much affect does the cruise director have on the experience? To me it seems like their main job is just making occasional appearances and announcing that they're the cruise director. Not sure how much they have to do with the quality of the food, staff, facilities, etc...
@@blastofo It will depend on the cruise line. For Carnival, they are a big part of the cruise experience along with their Fun Squad. They are kind of like mini celebrities for the line. I have also been on RCL and they did not seem to be as integrated into the experience as Carnival.
We just got back from sailing with Royal Caribbean and have to admit enjoyed it. We are sailing again with Carnival Panorama Feb/21. Few things I like on Royal better than Carnival is the drink package. Royal gives you self serve pop stands and a really nice cold reusable drink cup. Wish Carnival did that instead of having going to the bar to get your pop.
I used to cruise when I was younger and had a growing family and now I’ve started to cruise again by myself. I just returned from Mexico on the Miracle. Great time and met some wonderful people. I had an aft balcony and enjoyed reading And talking to the seagull that landed on the railing next to me. Throughout the day at Ensenada he would come and go. My next cruise is on the Panorama in April and I picked up that suite, with the Havana wraparound balcony, for a stupid low price. In September I’m selling on the Sensation. It’s 10 days in the Caribbean. I’ve been on six other Carnival ships and I’ve never experienced a problem. I make sure I have copies of everything in both bags so if I lose one I have copies in the second bag. I always take a bottle of wine and smaller cans of soda or sparkling waters.
EMMA is an amazing cruise director, i was on this ship for 2019 christmas sailing, and will be again this christmas for my graqndmothers 80th bday cruise
The food looks great despite a few downfalls you mentioned...cruise food is always hit or miss. The Lip Sync Battle looks fun! Love the detailed information!

We cruised C. Pan. in Jan 2020. We ate at Fahrenheit 555 the first night of cruise, which included complimentary bottle of wine (Chilean Chardonnay - great!). We ordered Wagyu beef and we were not disappointed. The Wagyu beef was excellent. We enjoyed the live bands, Night Shift, Owen Stephens and the brass trio (sorry, forgot name). The sitting on top level of theatre not well laid out with huge poles obstructing views of stage. Stay on first level when attending theatre. The elevators were high tech. Unfortunately the kids love it and they pressed ALL the floors, messing the usage of the elevators. Many passengers complained but did not realize that kids were the cause of the problem.
I booked a cruise for my wife and I at the end of Augusta on this ship. It'll be our first cruise and we booked the same type of room you reviewed. Great video 👍

We take one or two cruises each year out of New York City. Later this year the brand new Carnival Mardi Gras will be sailing out of New York and we are already booked! If the Carnival Panorama ever visits New York we will look forward to being onboard!
You’re are not supposed to leave the balcony door open as it impacts the efficiency of the air conditioning not just in your cabin but in neighboring cabins.
While in Puerto Vallarta how easy was it to get into the town by yourself. We are hopefully going in January 2021. We are going to rhythms of the night in the evening but would like to spend the afternoon in the city. So just wanted to know how complicated it is to get from the ship to the city and back to the ship again. Thank you
My family and I live 45 minutes from Long Beach and none of us have ever been on a cruise. We have all been really worried about motion sickness on a boat. I think I have convinced my wife that we can take sea sick pills and survive but do you think it would be better form motion sickness perspective to try this ship out of Calif. or one of the big ones out of Miami going to the Caribbean? It would be way cheaper and easier to drive 45 minutes from my front door to this ship but want my wife and daughter to have a good experience or this could be the first and last cruise for us. Any thoughts?
David A My wife and i live in the UK and fly to the USA to sail with Carnival. We were very worried as both of us are not great sailors, but you can’t feel the motion on these large ships. We have been transatlantic with Carnival and it was fantastic. No sickness and didn’t want to get off. Everything and everyone are top notch. Made some great friends and can’t wait for our next one.
David if want to try a cruise try booking one of the shorter cruises with carnival they currently have them going out of San Diego because they canceled all of long beaches 2-4 cruise. That way could see if you would get sea sick or not then progress up from there. We did that with my 10 old niece in January, we did the 3 day just see how she would do now we’re booked for January of 2021 on the panorama.
ok I would of waited for several sailings to compare to other cruise lines. at the time you made this you stated you had never sailed with Carnival, so I don't think it was an equal comparison, other then that nice video.
We just finished our Panorama cruise. Loved our room. Food was good. Breakfast buffet was so so. . Did not like the Broadway show. I think that was the only entertainment that I can remember. Lip sync was hilarious. Didn't like the music at the Havana Bar. I wish it was more up beat. The fun shops sucked. They had a perfume shop. Liquor store, jewelry store and purse store. I was looking for a clothing store. Not there. Over all it was a nice cruise.
Being our first Carnival cruise, we really did feel that the main theater shows did not live up to the entertainment on say Royal Caribbean or NCL. Otherwise, we had a great time.
Aside from Emma, it didn't sound like you thought too much of the cruise (compared to other commercial lines). In fact, it pretty much crossed Carnival off my list of commercial cruise lines, especially coupled with their recent debacles at sea (and most recently at port). Running into another ship. Loss of power at sea. Sounds like a budget cruise line with budget cutting mishaps to me.
That's actually not true. We had a great time on the ship. Yes, Emma was great, but we also enjoyed all the casual food options, the Alchemy Bar, the SkyRide, etc. The service was also standout. The theater and main theater shows were the biggest let down for us when compared to other cruise lines.

Cruise directors is one thing Carnival does best. Chances are no matter what Carnival ship your on, you'll have a good cruise director.

Great Review, wanted to point out some ships do not have sliding doors in the rooms as leaving the doors open affect the HVAC systems onboard.

I had Emma on the Freedom and Panorama. She is truly a flawless cruise director. Energetic, nice, and helpful.

Wow, it sounds like Cruise Director Emma is the best. But my preference would be Mat Mitchum who will be on the Mardi Gras.
We will be sailing on Mardi Gras too so will have to compare them.
We had Mat on Vista -2016. He was a lot of fun. Lots of energy that guy has!

The fact that you did not even mention the Heroes Bar makes this video completely invalid.
Likely because it's a sports bar pretending to be a tribute to soldiers. Its a shame the thing even exists.
We honestly spent about an hour at the bar our whole cruise. The venue was dead except during sports games.

I think it’s kinda gross that the crew stands and performs on the bar counter. Hopefully they sanitize properly.
