PSO2 New Genesis is a massive update and complete game overhaul to Phantasy Star Online 2 that feels like an entirely new game, honestly I'm not sure why it's not just called Phantasy Star Online 3.

Right? Force Gaming also did a Wakfu ad and it sucked me in. I've been casually playing it. Advertising got me.
Is the game alive? Like... Can i easily find ppl to do dgns and stuff with while leveling on or do i need to find endgame ppl willing to carry me through the content? Because that's something i didn't like when i played it.
@@qvd3533 I've been playing mostly solo and with a couple friends who I also got to join me. But there are some English guilds and even more early game English people I've ran into while playing. I think joining an English guild ASAP so you can learn the game easier. The game doesn't hold your hand, so learning things is very difficult. Think of it as RuneScape without the training wheels, but as a tactics gameplay.
@@mattk7251 Yeah i played a couple of months before but always have to run content alone when i was overleveled or at the min difficulty possible to not die (even had to ask end game guild members for carry sometimes) and that's not really what i'm looking for :/ But hey will give it a try next week i think :)

NOOOOO PS02 IS NOT P2W AT ALLLLL, I’ve been playing pso2 for over a year now, and played ngs since it’s came out and I promise you, you do not need to spend a cent in this game to get to where everyone else is, and the grind really is fair, I got to end game in pso2, but I don’t like ngs so I don’t play it like that, but download it, it really isn’t p2w.

I used to play PSO on my Dreamcast 100 years ago & what I liked about that game was the combat was so simple it made for such a chill community as nobody was fighting about dps or healing or whatever. I'm hoping this version is similar.
i had a clan with like 80 people where i just gave out duped items and the whole clan basically revolved around hooking people up with uber rare gear

PSO2 had/has the same issue. 90% of the game is AFK in the space ship hub until an event pops.
So when PSO2 New Genesis was announced to be open world I was hoping this would fix the problem.
Sadly it still suffers from the same issue lol. It's just the hub (world) is now larger haha

Same. Going back to ff14 again. The combat is really fun though. I just wish it has more content than this.
Note to viewers: To trigger the PSE bursts faster, you need to rotate between the "T" (and "E"? can't remember) marked local objectives. They charge the meter much quicker - generally only takes 20 to 30 minutes and sometimes trigger other events that are quite fun. However, once you get a bit further, it really slows down to a crawl when you're not getting showered with in-game currency, which occurs with the lower level quests. The only real way around that is to make more characters, level them, and transfer the money to your main. Doing the same starting quests over and over just to get money is not really my idea of fun, but the combat is generally fun enough that it's not entirely terrible.

I never played a Phantasy Star Game before and when I discovered this I thought this looks interesting. After finishing the story sigment that is avaliable at this time, im having a blast, the combat is awsome it feels like you are doing alot of damage and the controls are user friendly(especially for Xbox) and you have a button that makes movement and fighting even easier. The visuals and graphics are amazing, the particule effects on your Photon Arts are a nice to look at too. The classes and their weapons are unique in their own way and you can really create your OWN playstyle. And the open world is vast and has alot of depth if you look and explore the world enough.
Since it is a new release, of course not alot of content is there, and I agree with many other people that the game should have been delayed so we can get more out of the initial launch, with that being said, i wish there was more skills and abilites for each class too. My biggest peeve about this game is the Power Level gating content, they should abolish this in the near future, Of course there should be areas where you need more powerful gear and abilities, but dont let it stop us from playing the story or even giving the area a go to see how we fare(i.e. Mount Magnus Rank 2 and Laboratory Rank 2), they should also change up the daily and weekly quests to give more variety in day to day plays. What I would like to see is some sort of crafting system, and armour and gear that you can wear and SEE on your character, but I havent played a Phantasy Star game before so I would know if its in the norm.
With the Anti Cheat thing, not sure if its a problem with Xbox users, if it is please let me know.
All in all, its an awsome, beautiful, grinding, vast MMORPG that should grow in months and years to come.
Anti cheat has been in the game for the last 8 years and never been a problem, btw I agree with you there is lack of content but the overall feel of the game is great, I suggest you try playing base pso2 in the meantime, it has tons of content and classes with a level cap of 100 ,that means 100 skill points which makes it really in depth good

As someone who has actively played pso2:NGS since day one my advice would be to wait til the first major patch releases in winter not much to do as of now and other than 2 new classes coming in the next few months you're better off waiting til they announce the first major patch coming in winter

Tried the game a bit with a friend but when we discovered that we could not trade items between us unless we paid a subscription the road to uninstall was quick and easy

PSO2: New Genesis has a great framework. The combat, world design, quest design, and class system fit are very strong. But there are two glaring issues: #1 Lack of content, #2 Connection issues.
Play jp the server are better. Ship 2 for English server. The content is way better now and as longer we play as more we get

honestly i love that they've done it like this, i hardly get time to play MMOs these days and having a game that gets updates every now and then means i can actually reach "end game" each time and not feel like im punished for having a life outside the game

@@wuko687 so gear up in the meantime while being patient? I'm not a big mmo player, but surely you can engage casually while they update the game. These devs have a track record of support, so it seems safe to commit a little. But I'm no expert and could be mistaken.
Just seems like enjoying the combat and classes for a few hours a week until proper/more content drops could be a fine way to enjoy the game until more content is added. At which point one could be ready to enjoy new content at a decent character level. Seems like this game is good for people who like to beat stuff up every once in a while, instead of an epic no life game (at the moment).

That ad made me really confused because I used to play a game called Dofus back in 2004 which looked exactly like this Wakfu game, and apparently the dragon eggs are called Dofus too??

@@Asmodelta Different game on the same universe and settings, different age (Wakfu is prequel to Dofus if im not mistaken), slightly different combat, more solo-oriented (can recruit side-kick as ally), more beautiful looking for me, and free to play without area restriction. Well at least that what I knew because last I played Wakfu was years ago (2015 maybe?)

My biggest issue with PSO2 was having to Pay to trade with your friends. So if you're in a party and you accidentally loot something they need, you can't just give them it or drop it, you need to buy a month's subscription to trade it.
They've removed all ways to trade now. Even paying players are unable to trade items.
Wait, I thought everyone saw their own loot and nobody elses. You pick up all the drops because they're all yours and you don't have to worry about picking up anybody elses loot.
I was shocked to see Wakfu as a sponsor. Wakfu is an strategic mmo and was the best casual game that I've played.
I would really like to see The LazyPeon first impression on it as it is very different from the mmo's usually covered here.
Steam charts don't look good for Wakfu, but if they made a sequel I'd play it for sure.
@@SyperDT I've never played it through Steam. I prefer the ankama launcher as you can play with multiple accounts at once. It's easier to form a team with fewer friends this way.
What I heard is a good game, but the customer service is literally non-existent so if you run into bugs or anything you're just SOL.

@@sadv3 I've played it for two year on and off and never found a gamebreaking bug. You may find a small bug but I don\t think it impact your experience that much.
Thanks to NGS I discovered classic pso2. And there's a buttload of good content in that one. Been playing it nonstop since I took a break from NGS

The community flow in PSO2 is kinda dead; like only certain sums of people plays it. SEGA cut the PSO2 short. Was easy to find party for a grinding quest back in 2020, but now is scarce.

This game really needs a special method to farm the currency just like warframe. I maxed my char.. wanted to try other classes but the currency became a major road block, unless I pay for it.😐
Farming both plat and credits in Warframe is literally the easiest thing in the game.

I was surprised too. I played it in the early aughts, watched the animated series a bit, had fun and forgot about it for... Maybe a decade?
The many negatives on Steam are caused by release issues and server lags a few weeks ago. But still a pretty cool and fun game.
It's nice to be able to double jump right off the bat. Had to earn that skill with PSO2.
I just started NG and the only connection I can see with PSO2 is that I've kept my PSO2 characters and I can use a number of their items, such as weapons and armor.
It's anime, of COURSE you can solo a giant alien space ship with just an axe!
I think they kept it as PSO2 to keep the current PSO2 community intact and engaged, in hopes of funding future endeavors of NGS. Because atm a small franchise with new triple A mechanics, probably already costed them millions at this point.
Worth playing? Sure, the game only has 10h of content anyways

@@grapzyke6334 if you're stretching it then yes it can be 100 hours worth of content, but to me it feels like it only has like 5 hours worth of content? Grinding isn't part of the content imo (it's just a part of repeating the same thing over and over) and you can easily get all 6 classes to lv20 in less than 100 hours if you're playing rather actively
everything else there is nothing left unless you're a diehard fan that will just logs in and do some gigantix farming even though you pretty much have your character averagely geared (around 1.3k battle power, this is more than enough to go through everything)

Calling it pso3 would also be disingenuous because the game isn't PSO anymore. They should have called it Phantasy Star World or something
I believe if the game is tied together story-wise they keep it the same numeral. This is set 1000 years in the future from PSO2.
To you newbies to the franchise. Do not worry. This is Segas style as they always start every Phantasy Star with a clean slate as they quickly roll out the updates and expansions. By winter there will be plenty of content to sink your teeth in.

Hi Peon. Have been a sub since 2018 or 2019 cant remember lol. Love your content a lot and have watched all your vids and logs. But you have made a mistake in the cons of this vid "-Too Boring in-between main quests" not saying that the grind is not there, I have almost 180 hours in game and I enjoy all of it. I think you didn't take advantage of the awesome community in game. I'm in ship 3 and every time I ask something, there is always some one that answers also PSO-2 NGS youtubers. I believe you didn't know about room transfer from the Riyuka devices (teleporters) which allows you to teleport to a room with more players. I would like to help you with some pointers if you decide to play again.
1)If you look at your mini map you will see a number top left corner which shows how many players can be in the room with you for example 1/8 in combat zones or 1/32 in gathering zones. When you go to the teleporter in MT.Magnus and use it you can see the room transfer option which will show you all the rooms with players in them, you go to a room with 7/8 players and get PSE Bursts regularly almost 4 or 5 about an hour.
2)If you get all the skill points in game that is a huge boost in your BP (battle power) This Link will show you everything you need to know kosnag.github.io/NGS_WorldMap/ what you are looking for is the cocoons and towers under landmarks cocoons gives you 1 skill point per clear and towers give you 4. I would recommend doing the towers after level 15.
3)If you keep doing bursts you will get silver and gold swords use silver primm swords to level your other weapons save the gold primm swords. Each class can use two or three weapon types and you can also have a sub-class which means you can always have 2, 3 or 5 weapons types equipped at the same time and can switch between them with a scroll of the mouse.
Last I don't know and haven't heard anything about this anti-cheat thing I have separate device to do all my work and business so I don't really care. And if you consider premium service, Exp boost, Drop rate boost and Inventory Expansion for 30, 60 and 90 days to be pay to win then it is totally pay to win other than that there is only cosmetics in PSO-2 NGS store. In my time of playing the game have never had the urge to buy anything from the store I didn't even get the Premium service got plenty of cash and mats to upgrade my gear never had inventory issues either. I guess its all about personal preference and knowing what you need. I never usually say anything regarding these things but this is a game I enjoy a lot and I don't think you gave it a fair shake so hey if you decide to play again look me up on Ship-3 I guess.

I had so much hope for this game but there's minimal story and grinding between each part then you hit a point where the story is gone and it's a grind. Things in the world don't respawn nothing to do outside kill the same enemies you have seen multiple times over.
This may be a good game down the road like PSO2 was but right now it's got no content to hold you

I'm still playing it after having finished the story thats available right now, but i do wish there was just a little bit more content. I really enjoyed PSO2, so i tried to go back and play it again while i wait for new content but NGS really improved everything about the original so i found it difficult to get into the OG version. There's just so much more freedom during combat in NGS that the OG isnt as fun to play. Space themes are my favorite and theres just not enough of them in the MMO genre so I look forward to where this goes. also increasing BP isnt really a grind once you realize you get your skill points from cocoons and towers, just complete them all and you'll be above and beyond what you need to clear the story content. It has very little to do with your level and only sort of your gear. Its the skill points that will give you the most BP.
Content is also alot of dress up :3

Lack of content is real but still enjoyed it -- 50 hours into NGS and I went to try base pso2 again after a weak first impressions
Now spent 200+ hours in base game already just solely to farm money to afford cosmetics that could be brought into NGS, it's a decent ride along
As a NGS player i tell you: NO. Is not worth it. Game lacks content and what we have atm is not so great.
Content is quite good, just lacks quantity.
Every time you get to an expansive nature area in a game you cheer up, I think you would love IRL hiking.
I love this game. I always come back, I do leave a lot too! hah! It's beautiful, Chill for the most part, a nice place to meet friends and do quests! It's not your main game, it's that old girlfriend you pick up from time to time, have the fun, and go somewhere else for a bit.
This reminds me a lot of Xenoblade Chronicles X.

This game has the same vibe as xenoblade chronicles and sao: fatal bullet. Top tier Character creation basically a waifu simulator, you can literally make your character look like anything. It's action combat and the combat is being polished on every update. Was lacking on content but now has a good chunk of content. Plus the original game base pso2 with all 8 years of content is also available within the game. And no pay to win. It has the same monetary model as the og game. Game makes money through cosmetics and quality of life things like extra storage although the game gives you huge storage to begin with and all the premium cosmetic items can be bought from player market so you wont miss out on the fashion. It is one of the very few mmos that are f2p friendly. There's no pvp, it's a pve game. pso2 is a niche game if you don't like it you won't like but if you like it you'll fall in love with it and won't let go. Thus the game has a very dedicated community who loves and cherishes the game. The game will get really good as time goes on. Before starting the original game few years ago, many ppl said to me the game is not to their taste plus the game was 85gb at that time, so i was hesitating to download and try the game but reluctantly so i choose to download and play the game and fell in love with it and made alot of friends in the game and i am so glad i found this game. So if anyone want's to try the game don't be afraid of the 100gb download size as the game might be worth it for you. If you're wanting to try the game but looking for a confirmation well go for it, there you go. Don't listen to people's bad rap about the game, if it works for you it will work for you regardless of how others feel about it. Make your own decision. thx

Iv been playing it none stop since release and not a single issue. Don't know why this is a issue admin access is needed to avoid alot of bugs and alot of games run better with it. Honestly best mmo out right now in my opinion and this is a stupid reason not to give it a try.

So for the people who aren’t into New Genesis, would more content (enough to call it a full game) fix all your issues? For instance, would you recommend this game if future updates create plenty of content, if everything else about it remained the same?
4 months late, but I wouldn't. They removed all the personality of the interface, the entire Just/Perfect Attack system was removed, and they made all the character passives so situational they aren't even worth leveling aside from increasing the arbitrary forced power number that locks off a majority of the areas completely irrelevant to your character level. In addition, the current moderation system where they autoban any questionable chat content when the game is already rated M makes it not worth it at all to me.
I can give more issues I have with NGS, but that's the basic idea.
P.S. I hate there not being any structured levels aside from blue digitized areas with no notable aesthetic features, since there's absolutely nothing leaving an impression on me from the only "custom-made layouts" in the entire game.

@@RockR277 NG was released too early, it had content for like 1-2 weeks maximum, probably less than Genshin on launch. They removed timed UQ from base PSO2 and some other stuff, with everyone going to NG its way harder to find people to play together on base PSO2, and the graphics update on NG also change base PSO2, for the wrose imo. The biggest thing for me is that NG doesn't have the things that made base PSO2 have side stuff, like player housing, casino and others.

I don't remember the techter having weapon attacks at all, only spells. Could be wrong. Looked like it was doing decent damage too.

i’ve actually played this game on Steam and I have to say this game is pretty good
"clean modern interface"? thats one of the problems of new genesis, they took too much stuff directly from pso2, an interface which has its roots in the dreamcast era and it shows.
they should made a real part 3, where they get rid of all that old school stuff they carry around for years.
i really like pso 2, but new genesis is a let down, maybe in some years, with more content. in its current state you seen everything after 2 days. the roadmap doesnt look that promising either, if they keep up that speed it will take 2-3 years to have enough content thats worth returning to.
Yeah the UI is terrible, takes forever to find some specific items in the shop and makes the prices super inflated.
The lack of content is also worrying, they should've postponed the game release until they have actual content.

the launcher and twin daggers is pretty fun to use. you can also go to base pso2 to grind for cool outfit and stuff.
I actually love playing PSO2. It’s a super fun MMORPG and I am glad it’s on consoles.
Ive just played this game for about 10ish hours, and to keep it short this game is just a fashion show with a little extra. I feel as if Ive already done everything thing the game has to offer… I did enjoy the combat but its pretty stale after a while. The in game currency you dont get that much from the story line, one story mission gives you 1000 which cant even get you a sword… after every story mission you have to grind, and grind… To reach 950 power lv took me way too long, I did some side quests and they shouldnt have taken as long as they shouldve especially for just gathering. All the customization costs money, unless you spend countless hours grinding. The only reason I got this game was because the character customization, and sadly you have to pay to change your outfit color, or even change anything about your character. Theres a gacha/lootcrate system for clothings. You have to pay to get more storage, you have to pay to sell things to other players, you can even pay for a starter pack. This game has potential but alot of the enjoyment is blocked by a stonewall, sure you can break the stonewall but it will take a long while. A small thing that bugs me is the lag, its not input lag, just server lag. For example you are in a shop menu in the main “hub” area, youll scroll down, nothing. Scroll down, nothing. If it were input lag eventually the 2 inputs you made would come through, but it doesnt. Do it a 3rd time, it finally goes down once. Its probably due to how many people sit in the “hub” area and, yeah, thats all, they just stand there… some are chatting but over half are either afk or who knows… To sum it up, atleast with my experience this game is a massive grind fest just to have a cool outfit. That concludes my “journey”.

Side note, I really wish they had made NGS a new game instead of slapping it on top of pso2. They turned a 40gig game into an 100gig one, the servers couldn't handle the load, and the sheer size of the game is making it inaccessible to some people, not a smart move on Sega's end...

I love how everyone says "Wow its open world!" So is 99% of other MMOs, including ones that came out 10 years ago LOL and its map is the smallest ive seen in an MMO at its current state. Ive played for about 10 hours and I dont understand the hype. Its all nostalgia. Has the least amount of content of any MMO.
Yes finally someone using brain. Worse part is pso2 plays like a early 2000s game.
What you people don't understand is this is how every Phantasy Star starts off. Then Sega slowly rolls in the updates and expansions. Go look at the road map that they have set-up already for us. By this Winter there will be a huge expansion that adds a new region etc.... in between there will be many updates including adding two more classes. Plus the game is free... so if you don't like it then you don't have to worry about getting your money's worth. Mark my words, this MMO is going to go places. Only a matter of time. Plus find me an MMO with better combat. I'll wait.
IMO everyone means "open world" by a huge open map without loading screens between each zone, games like skyrim, rather than games like guild wars 2 that have big maps that connect to each other and between them there's a loading screen.

@@slade1368 lol hardcore nostalgic fan incoming. My friend sounds like you word for word. He also grew up playing PSO2 and has tried pushing this game on everyone he can. Everyone in our circle has tried it and dumped it. He’s the only one still playing because NOSTALGIA. As a new player with no bias it’s a bad game and has little to no actual MMO features. I’m glad you think it has great combat because THATS ALL THE GAME IS. It’s not just the fact that the world is small and the story is short. It doesn’t have a lot of features that are common in every MMO today. It’s just a PVE grind fest with one main story line to follow that isn’t enjoyable unless you like basic Japanese storylines that are prevalent in every jrpg or anime. Also I’d argue BDO has better combat. That’s my opinion though.
If FF14 did this graphic and gameplay upgrade shit would be almost perfect. I would also like them to change combat to be more like this but not all the way. The gameplay looks awesome but a kittle too flighty
legit having 5 PA's per weapon when old pso2 have like 20 PAs per weapon just feels like absolute trash.

When you grind join instance rooms with 8/8 ppl that are also doing it so its faster. In the video you had 3/8 ppl and you where doing it alone.
The only thing that's P2W in this game is the fashion, other than that, its 100% F2P friendly. Getting high level gear in this game is so affordable that its kind of a joke in the player market lol

@@mrhexadus1303 3-7 months to hit 1400BP is too much of an exaggeration. Also, BP serves nothing other than just meeting requirements to do harder content.
The thing with premium is that its hard to even make money when good drops are scarce. I have premium and even with that benefit, I still barely make any significant gains unless I want to sell scratch items but forget the idea of whaling, hence fashion is P2W. There's no need to rush for min-max gear when content isn't even that hard.

Something always turns me off with this game. I thought this new version would help. Maybe it’s the UI, or something idk but I just can’t enjoy it. Same thing with ESO whenever I try it. I want to like these MMOs but something puts me off.

imo both the UI and the combat animations are a huge turn off. The floaty slidey animations feels weird af, like how tf do people even stand this. At least make it more like Nier Automata.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I never see anyone in the world anymore. A few in the town hub but that is it
Each Ships (aka servers) have has seperate 1 -100 blocks, max player per 1 block is 32 (or 100 or more?), If you end up see no player around you that because you are in low populated block. If you want to change block, you can use the ryuker device to change to other block.
Is the game worth it right now?
Absolutely not. There's literally no content to do, there's big bugs being found every damn maintenance and it's all being drip-fed.
They are more concerned with pushing their micro transactions than adding content. I've already given up on the game. It'll die before a year.

For me it's a best game in a while being not have enough content it's accetable since it's release way way too early just few months after annouced it's a big upside
it's mean i have time to collect Meseta in current state and use when game have enough content
grinding meseta to buy player's cosmetic in my shop it's a big fun to me every cosmetic in this game very detail and worth to grind
action it's very well design at current state only have 3 active skill on each weapon but it's can use a lot more creative than prequal
also it's feels good to play , mobility it's good and unique too not that much MMO have something like air combo
it's already fun at 3 PA and still have a lot of room to improve it's only month and we got 3 cosmetic gacha already kinda more frequent update than i thought
but this is fun because i'm not have enough money to whale AC scratch idk for someone already owned everything in scratch it's literally nothing to do
Phantasy Star needs to come to Nintendo! It would fit right at home there right alongside Xenoblade and Fire Emblem and it would probably get the attention it deserves.
