  • Hi Everyone :)
    Welcome back!
I get asked often: "Where did you get all this stuff?" My goal is to share the real magic of science and physics- and to this end I will update here (and in my store) suggestions on where to get some of these toys, kinetic art pieces, and scientific curiosities for yourself.
Purchasing items from the links on these pages will help support my IG page of science and wonder.

    This video contains :
👉🏻 Squaring Circles: from one particular point of view these wireframe sculptures looks like a circles/squares, from another it’s a square/circle!
👉🏻 Undial Sundial: modern design of an ancient timekeeping device where a slanted stick (the gnomon) casts a shadow to indicate the time (this one designed for 30-40 degrees latitude). This novel design has no dial underneath, instead the hours are laser etched into clear acrylic such that the time appears projected within the cast shadow. 10 AM to 3:00 PM of a sunny day in Fresno are shown here in time-lapse. Note the movement of the shadow cast by the sun as the Earth turns underneath during this five hour period. Perfect for a windowsill that gets noonday sun!
    👉🏻 Franklin's Bells
👉🏻 Electrostatic Levitation: hand held Van de Graaf generator charges and repels a cylinder of thin aluminized Mylar.
👉🏻 Electrostatic Motor: induced charge supplied by a hand held Van de Graaf generator powers this simple motor.
👉🏻 Equatorial Bulge Demo: two springy circular rings flatten along their axis of rotation in proportion to the rate of spin in this classic teaching demonstration. This device demonstrates that centripetal accelerations applied to an elastic sphere will cause it to bulge at the equator- becoming an oblate spheroid. Isaac Newton predicted that given the Earth’s rotation, the radius to the equator would be larger than the radius to the North Pole by 1 part in 230. He was correct! (although overestimated slightly- swipe for description) Modern measurements indicate 1 part in 294.7. Question: At what location on Earth could you stand on land and be furtherest from its center? Mt Everest is a good guess, but the correct answer is the top of Mt Chimborazo in Ecuador. Although Everest is higher above sea level, the equatorial bulge puts the top of Chimborazo a 2.2 km further into space from the center of the Earth.
👉🏻 Mini Acoustic Levitator: small pieces of styrofoam become trapped between areas of higher pressure induced by high frequency sound waves. Ultrasonic transducers placed at the top and bottom are basically speakers that emit sound waves at a frequency of 43,000 Hz, which corresponds to a wavelength of 8mm for dry air.
👉🏻 Kinetic Balance Sculpture: two ribbons of aluminum balance on a third in equilibrium with gravity- but free to rotate about pivot points above each system’s center of mass. A vintage find from 1974 by artist John W. Anderson.
👉🏻 Balance Stacking Sculpture: a series of torques in unstable equilibrium complete this Calder-esque structure.
👉🏻 Dither Image Encryption: three images hidden in random dither patterns are revealed by precisely overlaying and aligning any two patterns in the generated set. Amazingly each pattern holds two encrypted images where b+c=♣, a+b=♦, and c+a=♥.
👉🏻 Tumble Rings: the links in this chain are connected in a special way such that the top ring appears to tumble to the bottom- a compelling illusion!
👉🏻 Van de Graaff Generator: this miniature electrostatic generator can create potentials of more than 50,000 volts allowing sparks to jump a few centimeters through dry air. Similar physics to the sparks created when shoes scuff on carpet, a moving rubber dielectric belt carries electrons away from the top sphere leaving it positive charged- as can be seen by the electrostatic repulsion of some Mylar strands. A small battery powered 3V motor drives the belt via the bottom pulley in this unit that costs less than $10 US.
👉🏻 Handheld Van de Graaf Generator
👉🏻 Pendumonium: stick man chaotic pendulum with 4 degrees of freedom.
    👉🏻 Digital Sundial
    👉🏻 PHYSICS BRAIN TEASER

OK, I looked up the SG of both materials. Magnesium has an SG of 1.74 while tungsten has 19.25. At equal mass, the tungsten block will be about 1/11 the volume.

Density. One pound of lead takes much less space than one pound of aluminum. By my estimation if those two pieces were the same size the tungsten would weigh 7 times what the magnesium does.

Isn't the challenge about different densities ? I remember doing that thing in physics class where we had to calculate their densities using their size and weight to find their densities. For everyone that finished it before the bell rang, they were given metal samples and had to identify the metals using a document and their previous excercise. And I'm pretty proud of myself since I was the first one to do them both in my class before the class ended.
Long story short, some metals have higher density than others, meaning some are heavier per cm3

Wolfram, also known as Tungsten - "Tung sten" - heavy rock, in Swedish. So yes, a small cube will be heavy while a large magnesium cube will be comparatively lightweight. My Japanese 13.3" laptop computer is 730g/25.7oz (even with a 10 hour battery), mostly made from a magnesium alloy which is why it's so lightweight.

And for the equal block weight of the two different sized metal blocks, I'm not a physicist, but my common sense tells me the smaller block is obviously denser. It's like making two squares out of six pieces of paper the exact same then crumbling one up into a ball. One will be much smaller than the other but will weigh the same.

It could theoretically last forever... but if it degrades in UV it could be done in as little as 6 months here in the extreme UV of a Florida summer. If you own anything plastic and leave it outside here in Florida it'll be brittle and crumble in months.

Yes! Skye Blue Café Wall Illusion: the horizontal blue lines appear to be sloped but they are actually parallel, as verified by sighting a straight line from the edge of the image. This visual illusion is related to the level of contrast between sharp boundaries, and if the boundaries are blurred (here with a plate of frosted glass) the illusion is broken and the lines appear parallel. Note that even after we verify the lines are parallel, our perception still misleads- a reminder that we need science to transcend the limits of our senses and cognition. This award winning illusion was created by artist Victoria Skye and is featured here with permission.

Challenge quiz: Even though tungsten is known to be one of the toughest metals, racing bike frames and other lightweight components are made from magnesium alloy due to the much lower weight. It is easy to see that a tungsten cube would be much heavier than a magnesium cube of the same size. So obviously the magnesium cube must be much larger to be as heavy as the tungsten cube.
Apart from that, the magnesium cube shown has a big chunk missing where the tungsten cube was placed, so it must have even greater edge length than a completely solid magnesium cube to compensate for the missing mass.

And how is there no mass missing if you can clearly see there is cavity in the magnesium cube where the tungsten cube fits in? If it didn't have that cavity it would have more mass, no matter if machined or molded, wouldn't it?

Cute riddle... BUT a kg is a kg... a unit of mass, which would carry the same weight whether it was feathers, fur, tungsten, titanium, or freshly boiled rice noodles.
Technically, weight is the function of work output by the force of gravity between two masses, generally consisting of the entire mass of planet earth, and the mass of whatever you're "weighing"... Statically, we just call it "weight", kinetically we call it "HEADS UP!" ..or "OW!" ;o)

I have watched vedio, normally people put fan below converbelt to blow the plastic wrappers.
My suggestions is you must work on minute time periods of blowing of plastic and speed of converbelt.
First let fan air .... or ...your machine flote the plastic wrappers, ......after that put the fan .....from right or left side to blow the floating plastic wrappers,..... while moving on converbelt.
Must bring blance between speed at different levels.
Speed of fan below, speed of converbelt, speed of floating plastic and speed of right and left fan to move floating plastic from top of converbelt.
In some places people don't have converbelt facilities , so make fix stand model machine for them to operate batch per batch.
