  • This interview is for any of you who want to write a book but are facing doubt and feelings of inadequacy about your story or writing skills.
Have you been feeling the pull to write your story in a book to help people but don't know where to start? I faced these questions and doubts many times over the ten years it took for me to write Unhooked: How to Help an Addicted Loved One Recover. Questions like: How do you take a story all the way to publishing? How do I decide what to write about? Do I write a memoir or a Self Help? Or a hybrid? Do I self publish, or use a publishing house? How do I decide?
    This interview is for you.

    Hello Jason and Bridget,
What an amazing interview. I think it's awesome that it goes over the depth of what it takes to write a book with true meaning and purpose. Whether it be self-help, memoir, or if you're just writing for healing purposes. Your experiences with different writing processes along with the strong calling to share your story has impacted my outlook on writing. I loved how you both shared about being open to speak to different groups of society and having the desire to serve someone.
I really enjoyed some of the questions you asked yourself before beginning to write a book. Like, who asks you for advice? What are they asking about? Who is your avatar? Who and what is this book really for? I also think the part about picking someone to share your book with that can relate and connect with you on a higher level is crucial. It's clear you both have that connection. I absolutely love how you broke down the power of writing. The part of the interview where you discussed going over the importance to share your story and the lessons you learned through it and connecting to others on a human level was eye opening for me.
I enjoyed Bridget's reference to Winston Churchill about writing a book is an adventure! I don't know if I'm ready for that adventure quite yet, but it is inspiring. Bridget gave some great pointers as far as writing juicy and sharing your messy humanness.
I will be checking out yourinspiredstory.com . Bridget also stated something to Jason at the end of the interview that really summed it all up and inspired me. Bridget said choosing to be that soul coming to the table with your gifts struggles and stories can change the world! We all have our own story that can touch someone in a way that no one else can. One of the many things I have learned at BHR that each person has the capability to connect and touch someone’s heart. Jason can reach a lot of people that I can’t, but I can also reach others that he may not be able to. We each have our own unique traits to connect with others and share our stories to find the connection that saves lives.
I love that you're both so humble and I appreciate you taking the time to share this with the me. Jason has tremendously impacted my life as a person in long-term recovery. Which has inspired me to set forth on a new path in the near future to share my story and devote my life to helping others. I have no idea what that looks like right now because I'm still working on me, but I can't help but feel some sense of hope and excitement for the future that I never have had before. Maybe it’s a sense of purpose. Who knows? Again, I thank you both for your time and I appreciate all the words of wisdom.
    Sincerely,
    Patrick Durham
