RIP Marshall, the world is a little is a little less bright without you. His videos got me into edc flashlights
Video starts at 2:30
Thx
They still talk too much meaningless crap through the whole video though.
Godlike...much love
RIP Marshall. Always loved seeing your Going Gear videos.
Man what happened?
@@rctrue he kicked the bucket
You guys should definitely do more edc items like this. I love this kind of stuff.
perhaps ENC (every night carry)
It just occurred to me that I'm watching the male version of QVC.
Great video! Very informative 👍🏼
I've been using JetBeam for years and Love them!!
Really cool video! I've never really put any thought into edc lights, and now I'm thinking about picking some of those Keychain lights for me and my buddies
This is absolute perfect timing since I've been looking for one for the holidays!
Bryan JR same here lol!
Love these types of videos man! especially since I'm in the market for a flashlight!
wow eric exactly what i whant for xmass
keep up the good work you have the best gun chanel on earth
Literally went out and brought an Olight S30RIII after watching this. Awesome info, cheers guys 👍
I've owned the Olight S30R for a little over a year at this point, and I carry it around everywhere. Great EDC flashlight for sure.
The charging base comes with a second micro-USB cable to hook up to it, which I plug my phone into. Every day after I get home from work, I place the light on the stand and plug in my phone to the secondary cable, so they share the same wall charger.
Really cool and convenient setup!
That's a really good video with a ton of info. I'm a flashlight guy and use them everyday, but still managed to learn something. Great job!
Absolutely love the SRT series of lights. Own both the SRT 5 & SRT 7. My favorite is the SRT 7. The ring on it has a little bit more resistance so selecting the right brightness is more accurate.
Thanks for the flashlight ideas. I ordered a few today from them.
Red light is also huge for being in the military. I also love usb recharging, so I can top off my battery and not worry about how much run time is left.
Bought a 360 lumen Nitecore Tip for $30 on Amazon because of this video. I keep it on my retractable keychain for work and walking around my office when the lights are cut off during the weekend. It's the best keychain light ever. For EDC I use Securitylng 700 lm 18650 light that costs like $20 but is flat out awesome. I'm a flashlight nerd and gun junkie so this video hit me in the feels. Great work as always!
I've bought 10 Olight's in the last 2 weeks. They are excellent. I love copper and titanium, Olight does it right.
Been carrying a Streamlight Pro Tac 2L for years. Absolute best light I've ever had, good in the hand, bright as hell, carries like it's not even there, and a good value. Love it
I just ordered the Protac 1L-1AA an hour ago. I love that it can use a cr123 or AA battery. The instructions don't mention it, but it also works with a AAA battery.
The olight s1 baton and their new s mini fit into the coin pocket on jeans perfectly. Great EDC lights.
Love my Fenix TK-15. It has helped me out of several challenging situations. I want to Upgrade to the TK-15 U.E.
Awesome, I was just looking around youtube for reviews on this when your video posted.
Not big on flashlights, but I enjoyed the video. I enjoy all the IV8888 vids and I appreciate the time and effort you put into production.
I already have two on your list, the EC11 and the I3e silver. Love them both 👍👍🔦
Very nice. I've been checking out flashlights. Very timely.
Love seeing Going Gear. One day I'll make it down there.
Steamlight stylus pro. Ive carried one for 3 years. they only cost $20 and are very durable. Great light.
i love that the stylus pro is single mode. simple on and off! they upped the lumens so its brighter now too
We upped our lumens, so up yours!
I don't know why all these EDC guys on youtube don't seem to talk about Streamlight or Surefire as much as they do these damn O lights and cheap Chinese crap. I guess they can't afford the good stuff.
i think the first reason is streamlight, surefire, and elzetta dont send out freebies to youtubers to advertise with like these chinese companies do.
another reason i think is because most of the chinese lights are compatible with rechargeables and more hobby and task driven which fits more into the edc category. more modes, different materials, good build quality but not the first choice for military, first responders, search and rescue, duty or emergency use.
i own a bunch of both lights and keep them for separate applications. i have a titanium body eagletac that either runs on cr123a's or aa's but also functions on rechargeables as my task light. i do like a keychain light so i have the surefire titan plus. i always have a surefire fury and extra cr123as in my jacket or backpack.
as much as i like the china lights, streamlight is the only one im comfortable with for weapon use and im down to my last tlr-2. i was fortunate enough to purchase an elzetta bravo, surefire x300u-a, 2 fury models, and an e2d. these are my emergency/hard use lights.
however, elzetta told me its perfectly fine to run the alpha with rechargeable 16340's rcr123a (same size as cr123a) and match that with a thrym switchback and you have a really nice little light.
my fury pro has the switchback on it and i do actually like it now BUT i carry it with a 16650 rechargeable battery from orbtronic. keeptronic also sells nice 16650's if your light wont fit an 18650. the p1r peacekeeper fits them now, but i dont plan on buying one. i carry at least 4 surefire cr123a's in a battery caddy in my pack or jacket as backup so now i can enjoy my fury anytime i want and not have to worry about battery costs.
jacob manalang I'm happy with my Elzetta Charlie on my rifle and Surefire G2X in my pocket (although it is kinda huge). I carried a Streamlight Protac 1AA for months in rough use and it held up fantastically, I only have the Surefire because I lost the Protac and figured it was time for an upgrade.
This year has been the year of flashlight videos on youtube for some reason. I had had about enough; but I found this video informative, interesting and worth watching.....just like most of your videos, Thanks. I really need a keychain light. It's the only part of my EDC I haven't got. That copper one that Marshall carries looks exactly what I want. Off to the going gear wrbsite. Thanks!
One that wasn't shown that I would highly recommend is the Surefire Sidekick for EDC. I have bought a number of lights over the years and the only issue was always making sure I carried them. The Sidekick is designed specifically for your keychain. It has a micro USB charger and a few different output levels. Even if you carry a light in your pocket the Sidekick is a good backup. The best thing is that when I leave the house there is no way to forget it because it is with your keys.
Great job on this Topic, Love the show🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I have the Surefire Titan on my key chain and it is an excellent light!
Great video! Gave me a lot of ideas for xmas gifts!
It cracks me up watching EDC flashlight reviews. For 6 years I’ve carried a no-name generic AA flashlight. No warrantee, no guarantees of output but it has never failed me yet and I’ve really abused it over the 6 years. I don’t need a flashlight that I can signal the space station with, just something to light the way, change a tire, light a keyhole, etc.
Streamlight Protac 1L-1AA. Super bright for its size, great warranty, and versatile (1. can use AA battery in a pinch, with reduced output, 2. ten-tap technology, so you can find the setting you like)
UnabashedNationalist amazon had a killer deal on it for 30$ a couple weeks back. I'm "upgrading" from a 2L. More lumens and smaller light/less batteries.
I heard that the 2L will be getting a similar treatment to get more lumens and have the dual battery capabilities.
UnabashedNationalist not sure what it would be called. But a streamlight rep said a similar update was likely for the 2L when I spoke to him at NRA Show in may.
check out battery station. thats what elzetta ships their lights with and they can be had for decent prices too. panasonic is top notch as well
Dilley_Esq I EDC'd a Protac 1AA for months it was a fantastic light and I abused it a lot with plenty of drops on asphalt and going through a full washer / dryer cycle. The only reason I don't use it now is because I lost it.
David Hynes looks like it's time to pick up the new 1L-1AA. Lol
Ya man I like when they change it up a bit. keep it up guys.
My favorite edc light is the Sunwayman V11r with AA extension. It has a rear switch and the front magnetic ring adjusts between 1 and 570 lumens and I can use AA, 14500, cr123 or 16340 (rcr123) batteries. I keep AAA to AA adapters in my packs and can even run a AAA or 10440 in a pinch
This video was a real benefit. I normally I wouldn't consider a torch as I have a light on my phone, but the illumineX-3 Cu is an excellent little one that made me think twice. I even found out about the DQG Fairy and Spy as a result of some research, their cool little pieces of kit too!
Good video, was surprised not to see any streamlights.
My wife got me the S1 with charger and battery👍👍great edc light!
I love my olights just got my LE r50 pro seeker and it's awsome
Brilliant video guys !!
The perfect Duo for this kind of video :)
top 10 edc fleshlights?
More like 17. lol
Justin Updyke I think you need to look closer at what he wrote...
It's important to be prepared when duty calls.
Diego Manuel I see the ones featured in the vid come in your size.
+Diego Manuel Ha Ha!
I have the Olight s10r very bright for a small package. And also nitecore MH12 for inspections at work. One of my other favorites and also a stream light strion
this was a good video because they covered some lights i am unfamiliar with that seem like quality lights with good features. my EDC is a AA light, by thrunite, the t10s, it has a stainless steel body, which i like since it is attached to a keychain and is tougher than aluminum. it has not failed me, and it has a good range of brightness, one thing i always look for in a light is a good moonlight mode. and that is why i like thrunite and foursevens... they both have moonlight / super low output modes, that are great for an emergency for when you'd want maximum runtime. surprised they didn't mention thrunite, since they tend to be such a good value..
My EDC light is the Streamlight 66118. Definitely recommend.
Thanks for the honest reviews.
Perhaps a new one for 2022?
I was very surprised to not see any of the Fenix lights. I've had my Fenix PD35 for over a year now and use it all day every day at work and around the home. I replaced my streamlight stinger with this light. I use the 18650 batteries and a molded holster I bought online. This has been the best light I've ever used and is versatile for any need. It's super strong and extremely bright. I have no reason to believe that it won't last me a lifetime and would recommend this light to anyone because it could be used for any situation.
I use a Foursevens Preon 1, the copper version, I like that it has multi customization, and it is bright enough.
Nitecore SRT3 comes with an adapter as well so it can accept AAs. It should be said the value in knowing exactly what mode the light will come on as when you hit the button is amazing. You'll learn the positioning of each mode (it's the same across the SRT3, 5, 6, and 7) so it's very handy.
Recently picked up two Thorfire VG15's off amazon plus 18650 batteries. 500lumens max, 4 modes plus strobe. Diggin' this light.
17:30 yup everything's crazy expensive here in Norway, thumb of rule is to simply take American prices and at least double it and you've got Norway prices.
Hoss Cartwright “thumb of rule”?!?😂😂
Why not have someone buy it here n ship it to you probably still be cheaper
That's sorta like canada, but maybe not quite double the price.
I use a Olight S80 baton in the chemical factory i work in. Have it for about a year of 3-4, only issue i had was corroding of the battery terminals inside the lamp because of the enviroment i work in, cleaning those up fixed it. I'm really leaning towards another Olight.
Electric toothbriushes, I could do a top 5 edb (everyday brush). Give me my S1R Baton. Small, light and bright. Great video
great video eric, keep it up
Great video! I've tried a bunch of Olights and they are fantastic. However, I carry a Fenix PD35 with a maximum output of 960 lumens. I chose it over Olight because it can be adjusted with one button, and Olight didn't have one like that in the same size at the time. It's more a tactical flashlight than an EDC.
You didn't mention Fenix, but I think I saw a few on the wall, I guess they don't have that good price/value ratio like the ones that were talked about.
I carried a Streamlight Protac 1AA as a part of my delivery job. I dropped it a million times on the asphalt and once let it in my jeans and accidentally put it through a wash and dry cycle. It held up through a lot of abuse. I lost it and recently switched to a Surefire GRX2 Leo version. It's an awesome light but a bit bulky for EDC pocket carry.
I've been carrying a Bushnell Pro 50L pocket flashlight for 2 years now!! $22, and I've never had an issue with it!!! There are a lot of cool lights out there, but wayyyy to fancy for my taste!!!
I love my Streamlight Stylus Pro. AAA X2 batteries, great light dispersion, very durable, under $20 and extremely long battery life. The energizer AAA's that came with it lasted close to a year as my EDC light. I get free D, AA, 6V and AAA's from work too!
I love them so much I buy them as gifts for the non-douche bags I work with. They all love them.
What's the lumens output on the Pro?
Iv got the shadowhawk X800, paid 19 dollars. what a great light this is for the money,i love it
Streamlight makes a good edc light. Another brand that you rarely see “the big n fancy” you tubers ignore is PowerTac. There are a couple of hellacious torture tests but I prefer mine. I practically melted two CR123’s inside. It was so bad I had to clean carbon off in the inside of the lens. Holy cow. I cleaned the burned contacts with a Q-tip and denatured alcohol and it works like a champ. That was 3 yrs ago. PowerTac Warrior or PowerTac E5 are a couple WML’s I use. The PowerTac Cadet is a great EDC light.
I own the JetBeam Mk-1 its really tough and bright. The reason I chose it wasn't mentioned though, it also takes a 14500 battery and with that battery it gets 480 lumens. For 20$ its a solid choice. Good video ty :)
Surefire Defender plus, Fenix LD-12/E-12, and Surefire Titan Plus are my top lights.
5.11 Tactical TMT Penlight is my favorite!
I have a bunch of nitecore tubes, I give them away and use them on all my keysets. They are a FANTASTIC option in my opinion with just the right amount of options and easily bright enough for general daily tasks in my life. Also, they weigh basically nothing. Hard to beat.
Marshall is the man!!!! So knowledgable.. RIP!!!
Sad that Marshall would be gone within 2 years of this video. Was a good dude. RIP Marshall.
ThruNite Ti3 is my choice. Indestructible, powerful, great battery life, tiny size, tiny price. Perfect combo.
compromises! the hardest decision
olight i3e and thrunite t-01 are my top pics for gifts since theyre single mode lights you can put on your keychain. i prefer them to the tube. i have them on a number of keys but my personal edc keychain has a titan plus. have had it since it came out and still running like a champ.
usb chargeable lights are handy and cool for sure especially if you carry a power bank or wall charger or even through your laptop. really nice for those who dont want to buy a charger and more rechargeable batteries.
i still like penlights and 2aa lights for carry but you can get more output with a single li ion and good output. really great runtime if you run 18650's. my favorite pen light is the preon p2 but the tailcap switch does suck. they upped the output on the streamlight stylus pro and i like that its a single mode penlight.
for a tactical only light i like surefires backup, e1d, e2d, etc..., elzetta alpha or bravo (avs head would be pushing it) and streamlights protac series.
any of these paired with a task light would be a good combo or even the thrunite ti3 or those other keychain lights.
my personal edc choices are the eagletac d25 series in titanium. nichia 219 over white for me but i have both. i like them more the the olight baton series. zebralights are cool too.
definitely like red light capability.
rotary is very cool also to adjust brightness!
im going to say a streamlight microstream is still a really good small task light. definitely like rechargeables these days. with quality cells and lights you wont have to only use cr123as for serious/emergency use. even surefire makes the peacekeeper with 18650's now.
love the vids with going gear. cant wait for the tactical light video!
my edc is a nitecore P12 the 1000 lumen model! I run both 18650, and cr123A.
I have greatly enjoyed your videos on edc lights, knives and others. A lot of people I know that are more physically active during their day carry a multi tool. Have you or would you consider doing a top 10 multi tools? Thanks
Thanks to Marshall and Sootch00 I'm a huge a fan of Olight. Yes they are on the pricey side but are totally worth it.
my olight baton broke with no reason. ill never buy again from that crappy company
cristi nel so did you give them a chance to make it right ? Man made mechanical objects tend to break.
cristi nel Why not just try to make a warranty claim? I’m sure they stand behind their product and would send you a new one
This video was very helpful for me. The technology for flashlights is moving so fast it is almost impossible to keep up with it. I use a flashlight for EDC as well as for finding rattle snakes at night which are very common where I live so a good flashlight is an imperative for me and my family. I added Going Gear to my list of places to shop.
Olight MX1 Striker.. 1000 lum...
Absolutely Love It
Good video guys.
Loved the magnet feauture
I have a few different lights I mix up from time to time, but my EDC light is generally a gen 1 Preon 2 for in the office and outside of of the office and usually carry a streamlight protac 1aaa and the protac 1aaa is hands down one of the best lights I have ever had. I have it programmed for "low-high". I love the proud clicky with the rubber cap and the amount of resistance that keeps it from engaging. My opinion, an individual light that ranges from a moonlight mode at a fraction of a lumen up to 500+ or whatever is not practical for most EDC purposes. The fractional lumens are lower than ambient light even if I am in my house/office even if the power went out or if I were out on the street there is ambient light so they are not useful, and super bright settings are too much to be effective. just my opinion
I've had a Thrunite ti3 on my keychain for about 2 years. Probably going to switch it for a t01 because I hate having to cycle through the modes when I only use the brightest setting.
I'm on my second Titan A after Warranty replacement but the new one has the same problem. After normal use/key chain duty the Flashlight only works on "Hi" power, must be some kind of flaw in their twist switch. It's a well made light but the low power with hi option was a selling point to me... Oh well, their warranty system took so long I'm just keeping this one.
I am kind of old school I guess because I just carry a black mini Maglite but I am very interested in the SRT5. Also that is a very nice watch!
Super cool guys thank you
Just catching up with ya. My old account got compromise. But love the video. Nice to be back new account new begannings. My EDC is SW Shield and Spike Coubaton Penlight Kubaton and Bushnell Pro 50 flash light and Mtech skinner knife
Flash lights are only getting better as we get better and more powerful LED bulbs and batteries, obviously. I mean I remember just a few years ago how a flash light on a hunting trip would last for four to six hours and now they last double that.
How about the Surefire G2X Pro (simple two settings, tail clicky switch, and lockout feature), you can pick them up decent money now, and still one of my fav (maybe not quite small enough for edc, but), all round flashlights?. Eagletac too etc.
That's a great collection of EDC flashlights. I still prefer AA or AAA flashlights over the new rechargeable ones for something I can pocket. Think about it, those rechargeable flashlights have a cheap charging system in them and many people complain of failure. I understand that businesses like them because its something new to sell to more people but its more expense for nothing and less reliable. I like having Eneloops and a better larger charger that does a better job. Eneloops are cheap compared to lithium rechargeable and I keep a few in my car charged and ready to swap in. My favorite EDC is the 2017 Fenix LD12. Its great and I can have the reliability of Eneloops and even alkaline in a pinch.
I'd love to see a top 10 EDC belt video!!!!!
I have old school Maglights. One six D cell, one 4 D cell, one 2 AA cell. They still work great. To justify a flashlight that costs what those things do, they would have to also be lasers that can burn thru armor plate.
That money can be better spent on ammo.
fenix pd 35 my edc great little light super bright
I have a streamlight with the hp head. I think it is the trls or something like that. I love it. but it is a little big. do you guys offer something with 18650's that has the same output longer throw of beam and is smaller with a pocket clip. I use it hunting and keep in my back pocket. it has fallen out a few times while running through fields. been lucky to find it every time in the dark.
I've got a khar.45 cw what do u guys think?? it's for my wife I work away from home for five day at a time she very good a firing it but would like some input
your "LIST:" link doesn't direct me to a list of the featured flashlights like I thought it might. do you have a list of the flashlights featured in the video available?
thanks
hi there, which one of these puts out the most lumens and doesnt get hot or gets hot but not too quick after turning it on? Im surprised you did not mention brands such as Bushnell or On The Road (OTR). I saw a review on the OTR On The Road X5 rechargeable flashlight. That it doesnt get hot. I know the Imalent MS18 is very powerful.
Oh my god I never heard of Marshall Hoots or Going Gear before but then I saw Sootch's video and didn't think about it much and then later on I'm looking for a EDC flashlight and I come across this video I never saw before and look who just happens to be in it... damn. So sorry to hear about you Marshall, Rest in Peace! God bless and protect ur surviving family.
what happened?
Olight s2A baton is my jam!
No Fenix lights? They are very reasonably priced and are excellent lights. I have one I use along with a similar Streamlight, and its just as good.
I like(d) them too. Problem with Fenix flashlights is they all eventually just stop working. Only a few days ago my little keychain backup/edc Fenix E05 just wouldn´t turn on. Nothing visibly wrong with it, it just wont work (yes i tried other batteries.. and cleaning the contactpoints for the battery). Same happened to my P3D in the past. On the other hand, my Olights just work.
Rick James My Fenix PD22 is fantastic and going strong. Best EDC light I know of.
Rick James love my Fenix PD25
Rick James my tk35 was run over by a truck and survived. Love fenix lights
Fenix TK09 is used by the Finnish Army as a tactical flashlight. You guys should check it out. Greetings from Finland.
tactical lights is what I've been asking for a while now. maybe do a 5 tactical light and knife combo guys.
olight s2 all day. which was from going gear. my light crapped out on me and olight sent me a new light in retail package with 2 fresh cr123s. I'm a customer for life.
Fenix flashlight is my preference but that's just me. We've come a looong way since mag lights cornered the market. Bill
Love my Olight S1R
