Come on people. Yes, he's not refined in the style of Bergonzi, but he's operating in a different lineage. Vocally, he is eating up this difficult aria alive with his sheer talent.
You can bray about this singer all you want but he cannot hold a candle to Bernheim or Tetelman. I am not a rabid fan of either but I have an educated knowledge of good singing and Mr. Tomasso’s voice is unfinished, rendering out-of-tune singing that is not even in tone from top to bottom and requires entirely too much muscular effort for the higher pitches (which in turn creates out-of-tune singing an uneven tone - a vicious cycle).
“How low, far …. we have fallen”, wrote another commenter. Oh so true. But yesterday, 17 November, on the Met stage, another even lower depth was reached with their disastrous performance of Trovatore during which neither the soprano (Angela Meade) nor the tenor (Michael Fabiano) could complete their gig. Both were replaced mid performance. Remember, they are what, by today’s obliterated standards, pass for “stars”.
The vibrato is also out of control, sometimes it's steady with the right width and the correct emphasis of the oscillation (the peak). Unfortunately it's the vibrato is wobbly, making it really hard to discern a pitch
Wow, this was rough. I appreciate that he’s singing full out, but the vibrato is out of control. It’s hard to find the center of the pitch. He sounds sharp in several spots. Also, not sure why Yannick is taking such a slow tempo-it really doesn’t help.
It's a bit slow. He's a bit sharp at the beginning but once he gets into it and the orchestra "joins in" his pitch seems fine. Good tone, not much squillo though.
In the MET videos you can‘t hear squillo from any singer. To be honest… Freddie doesn‘t have too much of it. But for example Michael Fabiano who clearly has a lot of squillo, it is NOT audible on the MET videos. Nevertheless I am a big fan of Freddie - don‘t get me wrong. I‘m literally travelling behind him. Therefore I can tell you how he sounds live in the opera house. However Freddie has beautiful colours which you partially can‘t hear on video.
@@ObadiahScott I've been saying this for years. The Met's audio engineering department is absolutely terrible. Sure, they have won lots of Grammy awards for their audio, but I think it's a total farse. They NEVER capture singers well, their audio is a mess from one side of the stage to another. The singers with big voices sound small and the small voices sound huge. They don't understand the acoustic at all. So it's no surprise to me that Freddie's voice doesn't sound well, NO ONE'S voice does.
The Met is evil for posting the first few exposed bars of his DEBUT performance when his nerves are probably so high, nevertheless it’s great! Let’s go Freddie!
There was no dress rehearsal which can't have been easy for De Tommaso for his house debut. This performance is also role debuts for Davidsen and Kelsey. NO dress! Wow!

true.
It's quite ugly how the fans of a well known tenor coordinated this attack on Mr de Tommaso .
the usual shenanigans
which one ?

@ I’ve heard them all in the house as well and had s different experience. Chacun à son goût!
Freddie, welcome to the Land of Trolls. Ignore them. You sound great. 🫣😱
Except there are objective qualities about opera that can't be ignored or glossed over, and are required for great singing.
They are not mere trolls , they are fans of certain tenor ... I know what it's happening backstage. Quite ugly in my opinion!
@@MafaldoPimare you talking about tetelman?
@@pedrohasallthepower No
That is an opinion, not a fact.
The colour of his voice is very special!!!!
Yes, like a second Pavarotti, how close, what a surprise, absolute unexpected!
He sounds sharp to me a number of times. Am I wrong?
I think he is sharp too.
I felt he was sharp at the very beginning.Beautiful voice however.
No, you aren't wrong.
he is spinto tener

bravissimo!!
Nice voice but the bellowing, belting style and wayward pitch is irritating. The conductor must have gone to sleep,
The vibrato is also out of control, sometimes it's steady with the right width and the correct emphasis of the oscillation (the peak). Unfortunately it's the vibrato is wobbly, making it really hard to discern a pitch
Yannick is surprisingly slow and dragging in this aria and other clips that have been shared.
Guess he tries to take his time to enjoy the music, but just achieves the opposite effect
A captivating, golden-age sound.

Heard him four times in berlin. Lucky me!
He finished well. I'd like to hear more of him.

I think the Met has a terrible recording method that doesn’t pick up any of the overtones. It’s like this with every singer.
@@ObadiahScott I'm going tonight and I am sure you're right

@@marczimmermann1758 Yes, I agree. The Met has terrible audio engineers. They have no clue how to capture an operatic voice.
Great debut
Yannick is so clueless about this style. Every clip posted has been menacingly slow, the music has no flow or drama and the singers are dying.
Yes he was too slow last evening and often the orchestra was too loud. I've heard him conduct this a few seasons back and it was much better then.
He's too busy painting his nails.
AMAZING DEBUT !!! GREAT VOICE AND DELIVERY!!! BRAVO FREDDIE 👏👏👏👍🎶⭐️
Bravo!!!

My God, someone get this tenor a pitch fork. Quick. And additional training. He is screaming and then going sharp. Also developing a wobble already.

Ben detto.
Vi meritate tenori costruiti con le vocine amorevoli.
He IS sharp. Puccini not his repertoire really. Voice more suited to Russian rep
