remeber me when build the "miracle loop whip" in the early 2000 for my new 817... it was a fashion to build miniloop type antennas then some radio amateurs were more successful than others like AlexLoop made with coaxial cable so even more practical
Just sat through most of your cb videos great stuff, I'm a lorry driver round the UK and would love to get into this, what sort of setup would you recommend (that isn't going to cost a fortune) cheers bud.
Hi mate, you defo need something with SSB as there's a lot of activity on sideband. I would recommend a President McKinley, yes It's fairly pricey but the trouble is you won't hear alot if you just go for a cheap set and with low power it'll be hard to reach anyone when you do hear them. A decent magmount antenna for the roof is what you need, anything that is about 5-6 feet tall will work amazing, the shorter ones won't. Good luck!
I love my wonderloop for hf and cb.....i found since there is no coax, a counterpoise hooked to the outer part of the so239 or ring terminated between the connector and radio severly increases recieve and transmit.....about 12 feet of small wire on a ring big enough to slip over the so239 socket works wonders
hey Andy, well done. Did you check the diagramm/ schema of the DX10 regarding filters? There are stories on the net that tell you could kill your filters (and lose power indeed) if you use the radio outside ham bands ... I was to lazy to google the schema so far. 73
OMG, that terrible lighting! (LoL!) No, good job really. It's great joy hearing you fellows in the U.S. on and around CB Ch. 38LSB and vicinity! 330 (KD8EFQ), Akron, Ohio USA/73!
This loop antenna has similar looks as made by my dad in June 1968, that were big failure HA-HA were made with metal coat hanger that were mounted on the stick.
Hay Chris that is good going 4 u and Andy take it u were in your usual spot Chris. as the crow flies about 14 mile . Drove past your place yesterday Andy ..my antenna comes up to the bottom of your Balcony .I got some funny looks from people in the coffee shop lol.I now we're Chris is TXing from... I don't see why people go above the legal frequency higher than a 40 Ch legal radio can go because it would give people on legal radios a much better chance of contacting people especially in areas where there's not so much activity.
@@o00scorpion00o with lsb and usb and 27MHz mariine whilst you can mod any radio to recieve the cb band it would be illegal to transmit on it 120 channels on land cb 40 on 4 watt, and 80 on 12 watt am and marine band on the upper portion of 27 MHz which add another 16 channels
BTW Andy YT 'unsubbed' me. I had heard they do that but this is the first time I have mentioned it. Also Andy, are you on any other platforms that allow dialogue? I know FB kind of sucks but I think I found your music site.
Hi andy you always use a ham radio set not a standaard 11 meter cb radio or a one like the superstar 6900n why always you use ham radio sets on a cb band ? Also fun to use old vintage cb radio,s This is ham radio on a cb band
IS NOT RIGHT ALLWAYS THE 27MHZ HE HAVE CABLE LENGTH TO THE COAX AND THE ANTENNA MEETERS! FOR EXAPMLE 5/8λ FOR 27MHZ IT IS 6,60 OR 7,23MEETERS GAIN MASTER! IF YOU WAND PORTABLE SITUATION PMR NOT CB RADIO! PORTABLE CB RADIO DOES NOT EXIST ANY MORE!
You got me back into CB radio again a few months ago and I'm glad I that I did.
Just got my Midland 75-822 Handheld 2 in 1 portable, mobile & also got a president antenna on top of my car.
Twisted Bell wire works very well That was one of the old go to antenna builds back in the day.
This brings back a lot of good memories from the 80s🙂👍👍

@@andykirby nice one thank you
You could improve that loop by using a thicker wire or use some coax such as rg213 , the more surface area the lower the resistance and loss to RF.
I need to make one for my work -20. Thanks for the video, Old Radio Night, 21 i S.C.

Nice one Andy,so your in Hertford now. I will be back on the 305 in the spring, have talked to you in Stansted a few months ago on my McKINLEY.
Awesome! Yes I remember 👍🏼 catch you soon!
What kind of adapter do you use to connect the wire?
That was great thank you for your time.
Very nice Andy 👍
I love all your videos, but I wanna see a 160kmh ebike video so badly from your channel haha!
0:27 not far fron Worthing ?! That's about 80 miles from you !
Yep, this is pretty normal in the right conditions😎
@@andykirby you must be quite high asl and / or conditions were enhanced that day. If not that's a miracle loop !

Dayum, link not awailable. I might try to make something like this, hopefully i will find a tutorial for the best small loop antenna :P
That's the southern and south coast net every Thursday Andy
Loops have nulls on 2 sides, makes me wonder if the other stations were off the sides. A way to rotate the loop might help.
Very good point
In reference to the FT-991A, how does your radio xmit on the CB bands? Would it work in the US?
Yes it would , it just needs the radio to be opened up by a competent radio technician, but be careful of the FCC
Every and each video like this makes the gap between me and CB smaller and smaller. I rly wanna try.

The link for the antenna is not working.
didn't know you was Charlie Tango too I'm 508 were one the early members 😜
That's like seeing Kate Moss with Pete Doherty back in the day ,,,,,, work it out
You are really crap at analogies...
Harlow to Welwyn Garden (12 miles) on a tiny loop, indoors… 🤥
Hertford not Harlow
Honestly dad, your goanna fry your brain 🧠 🤣
That is great
How you finding the FTDX 10?
So how much does it cost?
Link in the description!
Can you give us the antenna information?
Link to the brand page is in the description
I wonder if that antenna would handle a 1Kw burner on it (like the Italian's do). lol
No the tuning cap would arc over
I wouldn’t want to be near it with a Kw input
Any one going out mobile tonight on 11m?
Nice, never considered a loop for CB, may well give it a go!
Why not?
@@arconeagain Lack of education TBH :)
@@stuartmccloud307 fair enough. Loops are great. You should take a look at small loops, magnetic loops in particular. Very interesting stuff.
I just dropped some solder she bam
epic :D
So not much good, then.
Transmitting so close to the antenna is a No No
11 m Band... what a waste for this great rig...

Darn - we better tell Andy to stop doing portable on 27mhz...............
what a complete waste of a fine HF radio, opened up for 27mhz.
This is not a cb Radio, its a ham Radio and Not legal in cb😠
It's illegal to use ham radio gear on the chicken band.
it certain is and i would not advertise it like this , if he is a ham he should be using type approved .
Its also illegal to exceed the speed limit.
@@prisim is it i did not know LOL
Wonder if anyone can buy something like this anywhere?
