  • How to install Port-o-walls whitewalls on beetle wheels, or any car wheel really. Cheaper and easier to find than correct size whitewalls for some cars.

Yes. This technique works best! It's not necessary to break the tire bead. If you do, it's harder to get them to lay flat. I've tried installing both ways.

I seen someone do those in a wide white wall. I wondered how well they worked. Very nice!

I honestly can’t tell they are an overlay. The wider versions I’ve heard can “flap”, but these are so low profile I think they’ll be fine.

Misunderstoodboygenius I like it! I think I seen Chris Vallone so the wide ones. Pretty sure it was him. The flapping would make sense. I like those thin ones. Awesome video

Hello Jeff. I'm commenting here because this is the video that led me to subscribing to your channel. Hope all is well with you and hope to see some new content from you in the future. If not, I understand too. Take care!

Hey there. That’s a great story. I may do more content in the future, but I really just enjoy working on my cars and driving them. Filming makes everything take twice as long and I’m likely never going to be a RUclips star. If something is really interesting I’ll do a new video on it. There’s a couple big projects and some Volvo stuff I need to do. The Ford transmission went out but I’m not fixing it. 🤣

Thanks man! Do t they tho?! Can’t wait to get this all together. Last thing I did yesterday was change the front seal and o-ring (mine was flat too) and torqued down the gland nut and... SNAP! It shattered! I guess you can’t trust 50yo high stress parts.

Misunderstoodboygenius those gland nuts do weaken over time. Get a chromoly gland nut, it would be catastrophic if it failed while running.

A bit fiddly to fit but well worth it , I do like the thinner whitewall but with the hubcaps fitted they look awesome !!

Love that 70’s look. It’s what I grew up on. I also found red, and red/white thin stripe if you wanted something really sporty :)

Looks great! I was expecting to see you somehow glue the outer edge down.... but it’s not necessary?

Nope. They are designed with some bow in them to lay flat. I have heard the 4” whitewalls can “flap” but these are 1-7/8”

Great job! What is tire size on these? Thanks!

Thanks! I think 165r15 or 165/80r15 something like that. Closest equivalent to stock in a modern tire.
