Do you listen to podcasts at a faster speed to get through more content? You can do the same with RUclips videos and watch up to 2x speed.
Playback Speeds Available:
0.25 (slowest)

How To Change RUclips Playback Speed (browser):
1. Open Web Browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc)
2. Go to RUclips.com and play video of choice
3. Click on the Gear Icon (settings)
4. Click on ‘Playback Speed’
5. Select Slower (.25,.50, .75) or Faster (1.25, 1.5, 1.75, 2x)
6. Select ‘Custom’ in the top right to use a slider to get it just right
7. Repeat to change to another speed
How To Change RUclips Playback Speed (iOS/Mobile App):
1. Open iOS Device (will work similarly on Android)
2. Open RUclips app
3. Play Video
4. Tap 3 Dots in the top-right corner
5. Tap on ‘Playback Speed’
6. Select Slower (.25,.50, .75) or Faster (1.25, 1.5, 1.75, 2x)
7. Repeat to change to another speed

'playback speed' is not an option for the RUclips music app on my iphone. I just installed the lastest RUclips Music app and it's still not there. Any suggestions?

For some reason when I play a video on 0.75 speed or slower the audio gets distorted. It wasn’t like this before!! Any tips on how to fix it

There is no custom option in RUclips app
Are you referring to the RUclips app on iOS or Android? I can confirm on iOS 15.6 that Playback Speed is available in the YT app. You want to make sure that you are past the add and on the actual video. 👍🍀

Can you please clarify what your end goal is exactly as I do not understand what mean by slowing down the search voice.
I have a question:
If I'm watching a 1 hour-long video at 1,5 playback speed.
1 hour = 3600 seconds
Total time in seconds = 3600 / 1.5 = 2400 seconds
To calculate that time in minutes, I divide it by 60:
So total time in minutes = 2400 / 60 = 40 minutes.
So if I watch a 1 hour long video at 1,5 playback speed I can see the whole thing in 40 minutes.
NOW TO MY QUESTION: Shouldn't it be 45 minutes?
All this time I'd thought that 1,5 is right in-between normal speed (60 min) and 2x the speed (30 min). What is in-between 60 and 30? 45!
I'll admit that I was never an 'A student' in mathematics in school, not to mention that the difference is only 5 minutes, but still, can someone please explain to me why 1,5 playback speed of a 1-hour video is 40 minutes and not 45?

No "custom" speed appears in Android 11 youtube app. (Id like to play a RUclips music selection at ~ 85% speed for music rehersal. 75% is available but nothing between that and 100%)

@@MikeMurphyCo Hey, do you know of any way to prevent the audio from sounding awful when watching on a tv. On mobile, it sounds much better, I often watch videos at 1.5x speed to save time. However, the audio quality differentiates from that of an android or IOS. Is there anything that can resolve the issue? I've looked everywhere, but wasn't able to find anything on it.
@@JVLeroy223 To confirm, it sounds good at 1x speed on TV, but not good at 1.5x or faster? That is just likely the tech of the TV vs mobile player. I do not own a TV so unable to test, but that would be my guess. Maybe reach out to YT support team on Twitter and see if they can offer any insight. 👍
@@MikeMurphyCo To give you a little info; when I play videos at higher speeds, the sound bounces back (I'm not sure how to accurately describe it). The effect is no where present on any other device I use. It seems to only be a problem on the tv (roku) version of youtube. Thanks for taking the time to respond to my reply. I know there's not much that can be done, but I appreciate your advice nonetheless.

how do you set 2x speed as default? I already know how to change the speed of a video, but I have to do it every single time.
I’m not sure it’s possible to set the default speed to 2x.
@@MikeMurphyCo you are probably right, I just wish they would add that feature. Although it may be difficult depending on how they coded the site.
It is possible when you click on another video it will still be there
For me it's typically the reverse? At least with Apple devices for viewing YT video. When I tap on the "setting gear icon" once the video begins, and I change the playback speed setting for a youtube video, it "stays" default at the speed until I physically change it back to the "normal" setting. The options are to decrease or increase the playback speed in 25% increments. .25, .50 etc. But once I do, it remains at that setting (for youtube website) until I change it back. So any successive YT video you watch will be at that setting. I do it to slow it to 75% for learning music, I wish it would automatically go back to the default "of normal" after working on a specific song:) Someone mentioned the 3 dots but try tapping on the upper right corner of the video and a setting gear icon should pop up to change playback speed:)
Did they remove this feature from MI stick? It's a smart tv stick.. this option is missing.. app up to date..

@mob Bri23 yeah its pretty frustrating. I tried to find out anything I could but had no luck. Even tried to wiggle through to a live chat but even that gave me no information. It was a very nice feature to have.
Best I could do was send some feedback twice asking. Hopefully they'll return it sooner than later. Doesn't make sense to have it on every thing but the ps4 version. Unless it was causing issues somehow but I can't imagine that the case.

It used to work. I can still open settings and select any speed, but the video continues to play in normal speed. What happened?
I would try shutting everything down and rebooting your computer.

Why is there no .75x speed on the RUclips app on my Fire stick that's attached to my Samsung Smart TV? The next speed down from "normal" is .5x; however, if I watch the same RUclips video on my PC's browser I get the option for .75x? Even my Samsung Galaxy 7Edge RUclips app has the .75x speed.

Mike I hope you can help me please. I recently turned 70 & bought myself an IPhone 12. Now when I tap the 3 white dots I no longer have the option to slowdown the playback speed. When using my old IPhone 6s I never had any issues. When I tap the 3 dots, I only see about 3 options, none to adjust playback speed at all. Although I can change it up to a higher quality “picture” but that doesn’t concern me at this point. 🤔 When I try to scroll down in hopes of finding the playback speed adjustment the entire list slides over to the side as if I’d tapped on “cancel”. I cannot figure this issue out & need to study for a test later today. So far I’ve asked in the Apple Community as well as submitted in the You Tube help section. Someone replied that it was a Google issue. I’ve checked everything in the App Store. No updates needed. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻 that my post is seen & perhaps you have an idea for me to try. I think you may be trying to change the speed while an Ad is playing as you will only see limited options. Wait for the. Actual video to start playing and then click on the 3 vertical dots in the top-right corner and you should se all of the options including Playback Speed 👍🍀
All you need to do is set your video recorder speed to 30. Thats how i fix chrome and RUclips everytime videos play too fast.

I can't adjust playback speed on the Firefox browser but can on the Chrome. Very frustrating!
You might try updating Firefox as I am able to change the Playback speed on Firefox without any issues.

@@MikeMurphyCo they don't currently seem to have that option (tested on a Humax box. Not sure of model name) . The equivalent settings button brings up options for Quality, Captions, Report, Feedback and Stats for nerds. On the same list from which you select Settings, there is Channel, Captions, Like, Diskike and Save. Maybe they'll add it in a future version.
EDIT: It works on the Roku RUclips app.
How do you make 2x speed the permanent default speed?
I am not aware of an option to set the default playback speed on RUclips, but there is a handy keyboard shortcut to change the speed:
Shift + > to increase speed
Shift + < to slow down playback

I can switch the playback speed but anyone know how to switch the playback speed so that it saves in a download defaulted at that new speed too? I want to save it on a USB or what not and then transfer it to a CD for a performance....maybe I need a particular ap?
One option would be to change the playback speed and then do a screen recording using QuickTime, OBS, ScreenFlow, etc while the video is playing back in a faster speed and then you could use the Screen Recorded version.

If you are on a Mac, QuickTime is free and can screen record.
OBS is also free and open-source and works on Win/Mac and can record screens.

Sorry to hear that, but I am not aware of a solution, so you may want to Google with the exact specs of your device and OS and maybe others in a community or forum are experiencing the same issue and have shared a solution or workaround. 🍀

Thanks for sharing. Where are you testing and not seeing 'Custom' as an option in Playback Speed? I'm still seeing 'Custom' on RUclips.com in Google Chrome. It is located in the upper right corner of the popup window for 'Playback Speed'.

Go to RUclips.com using Google Chrome or Firefox.
Click on a video to watch.
Make sure the video is playing (not the PreRoll Ad)
Click the Gear Icon in the bottom right
Click the arrow to the right of 'Playback Speed...Normal'
Look in the top-right corner of the popup window with the Playback Speeds.
Click on the Underlined 'Custom' Text
Custom speed slider should be visible.

Every video always starts on 0.25 speed and I have no clue how to stop it. I’m on iOS. Is it something I done or just RUclips?
Is this something that just started? Are you updated to the most recent iOS (17.1)?
You may also try:
1. Sign out of RUclips on iOS app
2. .Delete the YT app
3. Power off iPhone
4. Power back on iPhone
5. Go to App Store and re-download RUclips app
6. Sign in to Google/YT account
7. Test playback and confirm it starts on 1x 👍

The app has changed since this tutorial was made. If you click on the Settings icon in the top right on the RUclips iOS App, you will find Playback Speed.

@@Priyanka-qi4ex I’m not sure exactly what steps you are taking or what you are seeing, but you should be able to change the Playback speed. Make sure you try when the video is playing and not during any ads. 👍🍀
@@MikeMurphyCo i have a video downloaded on the app and I change speed like from the 3 dots, then changing playback speed but it still plays at the normal speed. (This happens only on particular videos, on rest downloaded videos, changing speed works)
And when I do it while online, changing playback speed works on the same video!
What can I do about buffering on a RUclips video?
Close down as many open apps as possible. Shut down your device and reboot. Update all apps. Make sure your internet speed is good. 👍🍀
@@MikeMurphyCo I keep get this message since Friday, February 26 2021: " Your devices available internet bandwidth is too low for uninterrupted streaming, or is experiencing intermittent connectivity; the video might pause while buffering". This message came across my computer screen while I was watching something on Amazon prime;. everything is super slow to load, and buffets continuously.

Can you do custom speed on mobile
Custom playback speed is not an option in the YT app on mobile, but you can change the playback speed in increments of .25 up to 2 or down to -2. 👍

How to lock bc it krerps going to thr 2x
There is currently no option to lock the playback speed.
It keeps going back to 2x if i touch yhe left hand side of my phone, i dont like it when its working at the normal speed then jumps to an un normal speed! There should be away to be able to lock this

NORMAL is NOT Original Tempo...and it's Not Normal! It's still just slow enough to kill the soul of the classics; it's a real stick in the spokes.
Hitting the next speed up is way too fast and ALSO not the actual song we grew used to.
The RUclips copy right rules have truly ruined the last couple generations of music. The new generations won't understand why our 60's - 90's rock classics were so appealing.
I pay too much money to listen to music that you can't experience the original tempo sound which MADE the songs great!!
Slightly slower to fulfill the copy rights isn't worth the death of the song.
