    I have monoclonal lens implants and couldn't be happier. There is a tradeoff with multifocal lens. It's not just the halos at night. The monofocal lens gives the sharpest distance vision. My intermediate vision is great too. I only need reading glasses for well, just reading. Trying to totally getting rid of all glasses when you're older is unrealistic.

    I have multi focal lenses in both eyes inserted 11 months ago. Reading and close eyesight is phenomenal. Do not remember ever seeing this clearly with or without glasses . I have no problem at computer distance or driving. At night I can see halos but they don’t bother me. I am 70 years old and did not have any eye problems except presbyopia. I am so happy not having to wear glasses anymore after 30 years. My eye doctor explained all the pros and cons of the different types of lenses.

    Thanks a lot. My mom (age 71) had a cataract surgery. I suggested her to go for monofocal. I was doubtful and guilty at times. But this video confirms I took a good decision. Also my mom is doing very well with the mono-IOL (spherical). She already can see very well (so far 1 week over after her surgery)

      Update after 2 months. She got it done for both eyes. 1 month followed by right eye they did for left eye. She is doing extremely fine. She uses prescription glasses rarely for reading things up close and small fonts. For long distance viewing her glass is 0.5 or something. But she rarely needs it. Monofocal IOL is all you need once you are above 50-60 yrs old. They just work fine, and extremely simple, robust and reliable :)

    This seems to be very useful, straightforward and factual info. What I think is almost beyond belief is that there doesn't seem to be any straightforward, consumer-oriented, scientific data regarding the outcomes with monofocal vs multifocal lenses given the costs involved and the fact that most retired people are living on limited incomes. There must be an abundance of comparative data out there that could be used to state whether, for most individuals over say 65-70 yrs of age, one type of lens has the most likelihood of providing the best bang for the buck. Instead, what most of us are left with is testimonial word-of-mouth feedback which is notoriously misleading. That being said, I have 3 acquaintances who've had a monofocal lens in one eye and a multifocal lens in the other, and all 3 of them state they cannot see a significant difference in performance. If that is the case, why would a typical patient on a fixed income cough up upwards of $10,000 extra for multifocal lenses in both eyes. It seems to be the opthalmological profession isn't doing their job in making certain that patients have the information they need to assure informed consent. IMHO, of course.

    • @ariels.3378
      @ariels.3378 Год назад +1

      Nope! You are correct. There is no clear cut lense that corrects the vision to 20/20 or even close. So I'm waiting.

      @eqlzr2 4 года назад +5

      I'm happy you've had a great result. As I mentioned above, though, testimonials are not scientific group data and, just because you had a good result, it doesn't mean that other people will also have the same result. People need this objective scientific group data to make informed decisions, and it seems the opthalmological profession has not provided us this info (as far as I can tell in my research so far).

My night driving is a problem due to BIG halo's, my fine working on machinery is really a problem as i dont see detail. Computer screen is hell even after changing to dark mode and dialing down the brightness. LED lights are a bugger as i have light flashing from the side of my eyes. Yes, i can function without glasses but not as i used to with glasses. Problem is one searches for the procedure before surgery however only find out about the problems after. My advise would be to keep the lensses God gave you unless there is no other option. Too late for me now. Grin and bear it

    Great video, our doctors need to watch this one. It really helps in making the best decision for your specific situation. Monofocal lens with toric correction for astigmatism is for me. I dont want those
    side effects from the multifocal lenses, especially driving at night in the winter when it gets dark at 5 pm. and also I am getting older and the eyes may not adjust well
    to the multifocal lens technology, never knew that. I prefer distance precision and dont mind wearing
    glasses to read or do computer work, which is minimal for me.

      @@Lindamorena still dissatisfied. I'm still dealing with trying to see well. My eye Dr says it is because my brain is trying to process different input from 2 different lens. Last month we discussed speaking to another ophthalmologist about if he would recommend getting the other multifocal out and putting in a monofocal so that both eyes match, still waiting on a referral. Who knows, maybe it is just almost 60 yr old eyes that can't adapt. Thanks a lot for sharing. After watching videos on the subject I heard from a doctor that a small (about 5-10%) percentage wouldn't be satisfied with the implant results and that a lesser percentage (3% I think) would go to exchange the lens. And it might happen that you fall in that category.
      Did you check for other possible reasons that might be affecting the unsatisfying outcome you have?
      And yes I agree that maybe having a multi with a mono focal might be harder for the brain to process.

I was hoping for good vision with this lens in couple days to no more than a week- and it's been over 3 months and NO improvement.... I'm thinking of having it removed an a RESTORE ACTIVE VISION lens put in..

      This is also my case. I have had traumatic cataract on my left eye for 21 years and the surgeon suggests -if possible- trifocal lens in my left eye. Currently vision is only 5%. So my right eye has been generally sufficient until a couple of weeks ago. Since then I’ve annoyance while using computer due to non-concentric but poor view coming from my left eye (non-concentric because my original lens has been tilted after trauma (stone hit my eye)). I doubt if it is better to have monofocal on that eye since my right eye is still good for near or distant.
